Official London Theatre ‐ Who Won at the Olivier Awards 2024 with Mastercard? - Sudarsan9775/blog GitHub Wiki

Becoming an Olivier Award winner is considered the pinnacle of a stage career. This year’s winners were announced at the Royal Albert Hall in London, an evening hosted by the brilliant Hannah Waddingham.

What does it mean to win an Olivier Award? As Bryan Cranston, the winner of the Best Actor Olivier Award in 2018, once said: “It’s very difficult to be mad as hell when you’re holding an Olivier award.” It is undoubtedly the most prestigious and anticipated theatre awards event in the UK and, perhaps in the world, along with the Tony Awards.

The awards became officially known as the Laurence Olivier Awards to recognise Laurence Olivier’s gigantic contribution towards British theatre, and they have had this moniker since 1984. The awards ceremony was first held in 1976 and has been in numerous London halls.

Sunset Boulevard went into the evening with more nominations than any production this year, receiving eleven nominations; the show did very well, winning Best Director, Best Actor in a Musical, and Best Actress in a Musical. In 2017, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child broke the record for the most Olivier Awards ever won, collecting nine awards in total - Sunset Boulevard came close to that this year with seven wins.

The Official London Theatre eagerly awaits the Olivier Awards every year, highlighting the big winners from the evening and praising those who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to put their show in the spotlight.
