Databases and SQL

Things we did well

  • Pace was excellent
  • Nice + clear. Very good progression for the beginner
  • Examples are clear. Good explanation of relational databases
  • Very clear teaching + explanation. Pace was good.
  • Well structured. Useful contents. Clear illustration.
  • Pace. Etherpad.
  • Very nice style, good explanations, easy to listen to. Tried the Etherpad chat, very helpful feature!
  • Good pace! Good explanations!
  • Enjoyed the presentation + content
  • Very clear and easy to follow
  • Good presentation & content
  • Well explained and nice flow where the concepts are building from beginning to the end

Things we could improve

  • Exercise answers not online
  • Could have had more independent exercises. Was a bit slow for me (but I've already seen a bit of SQL)
  • Keep table structure visible at all times, it would be easier to orient
  • Too many tables to be changed. Good for join functions but lots to remember. How to export data? Which data can be imported? CSV? etc.
  • Not sure if time - but be good to see how to use SQLite in R. Useful learning separate languages, but integration would be great.
  • Would have liked to have written some scripts or stored commands in some way
  • Would like longer to go through more topics - python integration etc.
  • Should be more fluent. Want more introduction on the combination.
  • Maybe schedule more time for this section in future. Would be good to see how it interacted w/ R (for example)
  • Examples of when I might use SQL in different situations
  • Would need a bit more time for the end
  • Would be interested to know how to import txt files and export queries
  • A printed sheet with the info of all tables would be useful. At the beginning only use 1 table.
  • Class should be slightly longer. Including how to export the queries
