MailCleaner Installation

MailCleaner is distributed using pre-built VM images for most major virtual hosting environments. You can download these images from here.

After the download is complete, extract the archive and follow the instructions bundled with your release. For most hypervisors, this will simply mean creating a new VM in your hypervisor software and pointing it to the extracted disk image. For the QCOW2 image, you can optionally re-size and re-name the image using the provided configuration script.

Upon first launch of the image, you will be greeted with a first-time install wizard. Use this to configure your keyboard, timezone, networking details and other information. When this configuration completes, the rest of the configuration should be available from the web-based configurator on port 4242. When that is completed, the appliance is ready to be registered via the Admin interface at "http:///admin". Use Configuration->Base system->Registration to register as Enterprise or Community Edition in order to take advantage of the additional features.

If this machine is meant to be part of a cluster, please follow the Clustering Guide.

System Requirements

MailCleaner has absolute minimum requirements of:

  • 2 CPU
  • 4 GB RAM
  • 60 GB SATA III, 7200 rpm hard drive
  • 100 Mbps network card
  • 2 Mbps network connectivity

However, this will not support mail volume for more than about 100 users.

For larger production environments we recommend:

  • For 100-500 users: 4 CPU 4GB RAM 100GB Disk

  • For 500-1000 users: 8 CPU 8GB RAM 200GB Disk

  • For more than 1000 users we recommend: create a cluster with one node per 1000 users that are proportioned to the 500-1000 specifications.
