magic of the universe 64 Animalia All living beings have magic infused in their soul even if they cannot use the magic. Every character uses magic as part of their bodily functions mostly in digestion and in their nervous system. However most in this universe refer to magic as any spell or ability that is not directly related to themselves. (ex. casting a fireball would be considered magic but self-heal does not). From here on that is the definition of magic unless specifically specified.
In every living being there are two magical measurements. These are the natural magic power, and the internal magic power. The natural magic power is a measurement of the maximum amount of power released with a neutral emotion. The internal magic power is the total magic power they have on average available. The internal magic power is defined by the type of life that is used. Internal magic power CANNOT be lower than natural magic power. Many are more than double this. If Internal magic power where to ever reach 0 parts of their nervous and digestion systems will start to fail, this usually puts the being into shock (this is a medical term look it up if you don't know what it means) which then causes a coma. Most non-magical life have a stronger immunity to this as less magical energy is used to preserve body heat. Natural magic level to joules J=(2000000*(lv/15)^4) this formula was using the magic fireball and the explosion on impact and assuming at maximum power (suicide to the user in most cases). Emotions can affect the output; this is determined by the willingness to kill or injure the target. the magic level squares if there is a high level of willingness is high but square roots if it is low. The internal level sometimes grows and shrinks but at a slower rate. if a mortal being gains greater than level 1000 the atoms in their body start to self-destruct. this is slow at first but after about an hour they will start to increase their body heat to high levels and cause them to melt to nothingness. biological sex does affect the combat style and stamina of the magical being. Females are generally glass canons in the sense they have a large amount of damage but due to not being as physically strong as a male this wears them out very quick. males are not as powerful as females but have longer sustainment of a spell. or can use more in quick succession. There are exceptions to this like jem wolfsbane whom is both magically strong but is physically very strong with high stamina. (would be Olympic level for male humans in weightlifting if this universe had them that is a logistical nightmare to balance the multiple race types).
Non-magical life means they are usually the base forms of magical users. These are considered animals. Most of these are not considered intelligent enough to join society. Humans are one of the few non-magical beings that consistently pass the intelligence test to enter society, this is done by the solar council. If they don't pass this test they become property, similar to an animal like a dog or cat. While the solar council does have ethical standards for some races and even put protections on certain races. (an example of one of these protections are that humans automatically pass the test but only upon being questioned do they take the test). Most non-magical life have zero or very little natural magic power but very high internal magic power sometimes nearing the magical limit for mortal beings.
Magical life means that they are a being that is of the race Homo-Magica or of their decedents. Most monsters are decedents of Home-Magica and one or more forms of non-magical life. The tradeoff starts with lower internal magic levels than their non-magical variants. All magical beings are considered Intelligent life and thus don't take the test (though some should). But if they were to fail the fact that you have magical power does not protect them from becoming property. The biggest drawback to this is for most cases that test can only be don of their own volition. Most magical life have moderate magical power for natural, and at least double that for internal magic power.
Some items can be infused in magic. Most forms of electricity use this. (electricity by itself exists not as a form of magic). How it is done varies on what type of magic equipment it is. One of the ways it can be done is by soul infusion. This has been long since banned form of magical infusion as while it technically extends the life of those who is being infused it generally puts them in a form of torture. (this is especially the case if the equipment is not taken care of or is damage). This form of magic was banned by the Geneva convention. This was partially unbanned by the Foxend Tribe by changing it to only non-concentual use is banned during the Korean war. After this it is mostly kept the same. The next is magical crystals that absorb magic energy. (this is more common but expensive). This was one of the forms of magic that helped terraform planets. (and earth's moon luna). the last form is through magic enchantments. Most of these has a cost.
Dark/black magic is by far one of the most powerful forms of magic. all forms of this are banned due to the fact most requires a physical cost of a living being. As well as most of the time this magic is non-concentual on who it uses for this cost. the Hyper lock spell and the Temporal Light Spell are two powerful examples of this. Exemptions to this are only granted by the solar council however this is rare. (you are better off keeping it secret and doing it anyway).
A being's magic type is determined by their primary magic type(s). In most cases the primary magic type is hereditary from either the parent's primary or secondary type(s). The primary type is doubled if a magic is used of the same type. Every type level lower divide the magic power by 2 each time. (ex. secondary(1x), tertiary (0.5x), etc.) If it is not stated it is equivalent to secondary. If it is named on secondary there is a slight buff. There are 6 primary types of magic: fire, water, earth, light, time, and space. Secondary types are types that combine two primary types below is a table containing the most common secondary types.
secondary type combination wind light + space
plant earth + water
mental light + water
metal fire + earth
darkness light + space
dimensional time + space
glow/twilight earth + light
steam fire + water
Any other types are tertiary types which means they use more than two types. For secondary types you add all primary type's resistances and weaknesses. Then multiply by .5 for resistances and 2 for weaknesses repeat the multiplication by the number calculated for resistances and weaknesses. Then multiply the resistances and the weaknesses together. That end result is the multiplier before the primary type bonus. Below is a chart of secondary types (poly is if all types where added and normal is a non-magical attack).
this was not used in the GB version due to the complexity of the system. Dimensional magic is powerful BUT, in most cases, it usually is not an attack-based magic and is very Nihilistic in nature. Most don't last very long and may do more damage to the user than the target. Time magic is another that is mostly not attack based and is fairly rare.
The internal magic level of someone can be predicted by bloodlines. This is done by averaging the two internal magic levels. for this pure Homo-Magica is considered non magical. If the parents contain a magical and non-magical each is considered 3/4 a person; the formula is(p1+p2)/1.5. The natural level is also predicted the same way. If the levels are not known use the generic race values.
Mental magic is a special type of magic that involves invasion of another's mind. once the connection is established the internal magic level is used as a means of control (and yes this means a non-magical can end up controlling a magical user, HOWEVER the being that is controlled cannot do magic unless dark magic was used). Time magic is an interesting case. if the magic was used to exceed the speed of light to travel back in time you enter that time but on a separate plane of existence that you cannot influence the past... but the past can influence you. this plane drops when you catch up to the present or time travel to the present. If you use magic to go back you can change the past, however the universe can change you. (try not to kill Villans of the past or you may become one in their place). for a TLDR. of time magic if you travel using speed you cannot affect the past, using magic directly you can affect the past, but the universe fights your actions.
