Entity Profile: Skinwalker

Overview

The Skinwalker is an adaptive, deception-based entity classified under Mimetic Hostile Forms. Its behavior revolves around imitating players through advanced mimicry, audio replication, and movement emulation. This entity is considered highly dangerous once it transitions out of its passive phase and is capable of isolating and eliminating players with both psychological and physical strategies.

Behavior and Lifecycle

Passive State — Mimetic Phase Upon manifestation, the Skinwalker immediately selects a single target from the player population. The targeted individual experiences a full system override:

  • Control of the player's character is forcibly removed.
  • Visual and auditory hallucinations (e.g., jumpscare overlays and ambient sound distortion) are triggered.
  • Chat and command functionality are fully disabled.
  • The game’s interface is modified to prevent exit; the “Back to Title Screen” button is replaced with the message: "There is no Escape."

The targeted player enters a spectator-like stasis, unable to interact with the environment or others.

Meanwhile, the Skinwalker assumes the exact appearance of the target, including their skin and recent audio data. The entity uses recorded voice samples captured earlier to further reinforce the illusion of identity.

Deceptive behaviors include:

  • Playback of previously recorded player speech.
  • Mimicry of typical player movement patterns (e.g., crouching, directional strafing, idle observation).
  • False attempts at interaction such as air punches or idle looking gestures.

The success of this deception hinges on player proximity and observation. The longer the entity remains near others, and the more frequently it is observed or interacted with, the faster its Suspicion Index increases. Upon reaching a critical threshold, it transitions to its next state.

Transitional State — Unmasking Phase During this stage, the Skinwalker undergoes a visible transformation:

  • A distinct cracking sound signals the dislocation of its neck, which now tilts unnaturally, turning to look over its shoulder.
  • All nearby light sources flicker, introducing atmospheric tension.
  • A loud, unnatural screech announces the transition.
  • The entity becomes temporarily stationary as it completes its metamorphosis.

Hostile State — Predation Phase Once transformation is complete, the Skinwalker reveals its true form:

  • It retains the appearance of its target but is now heavily distorted.
  • Black tentacle-like appendages extend from its back.
  • Its head becomes a void-like mask with two glowing white eyes.
  • It moves erratically using its appendages, creating a heavy thudding sound perceptible through solid walls.
  • Emission of clicking vocalizations is frequent.
  • Recorded voice clips are distorted in pitch, tempo, and clarity (e.g., stuttered, bitcrushed, or reversed), contributing to a sense of uncanny familiarity.

Once it identifies a player, it emits a horrific scream and begins pursuit. A chase timer initiates upon detection; if the entity fails to eliminate a target within this window, it dematerializes, temporarily lifting the threat.

Combat and Countermeasures

  • In its passive state, the Skinwalker can be neutralized. It possesses 1000 HP, making it extremely resilient (2.5× the health of a Warden).
  • Once transformation begins, the entity becomes completely invulnerable, rendering all damage futile.

It is therefore advised to eliminate the entity during its passive phase if identification occurs early. Communication, vigilance, and verification protocols between players are critical in identifying impostor behavior before the Suspicion Index escalates.

Observational Notes

  • The Skinwalker poses a significant psychological and mechanical threat through its deception mechanics.
  • Its use of recorded player audio and behavioral mimicry often results in misidentification, especially in multiplayer environments.
  • Survivors report intense emotional stress and paranoia when operating in proximity to the entity, especially under limited lighting or chaotic circumstances.

Entity Profile: Smiler

Overview

Smilers are photophobic, non-physical entities composed of a distorted facial structure: a pair of glowing white eyes and a grinning mouth suspended in darkness. They are categorized under Ambient Reactive Hostiles and are exclusively associated with lightless conditions.

Behavioral Characteristics

  • Smilers are lethally reactive to player presence. If a player maintains line of sight, the entity induces:
      - A static overlay across the player's visual interface.
      - Progressive, unavoidable damage until death or disengagement.
  • They are entirely invulnerable and cannot be damaged or repelled through traditional means.
  • The only reliable methods of avoidance or deterrence are:
      - Breaking visual contact by hiding behind environmental geometry or changing direction.
      - Direct confrontation with a flashlight, which causes the entity to dissipate instantly. This reaction is instinctive and indicates sensitivity to artificial light sources.

Summary

Both the Skinwalker and Smiler represent distinct and significant threats within their respective environments. The former relies on complex psychological deception and player isolation, while the latter is a condition-based opportunistic predator exploiting lapses in environmental lighting.

Extreme caution is advised when encountering either entity. Survivability hinges on environmental awareness, communication between players, and judicious use of available tools.
