Environmental Overview

Level 1 manifests as an extensive, subterranean parking structure of indeterminate size. The environment is constructed entirely from raw concrete — including floors, walls, ceilings, and support beams — and is arranged into a complex network of wide-open chambers, narrow passageways, and looping tunnels. Visibility is compromised by low ambient lighting and a persistent layer of fog that clings close to the ground, impeding depth perception and orientation.

The structure appears to obey no consistent architectural logic, with some areas shifting or looping in subtle ways that suggest mild spatial distortion. Scattered puddles across the floor contribute to the soundscape and are theorized to result from condensation or slow internal leaks, though no source has been identified.

Access Conditions Access to Level 1 is achieved by descending a staircase located within Level 0. The transition occurs seamlessly, with players arriving in a randomized but structurally similar section of the garage complex. While the entry coordinates are typically located near (10, 26, 3), actual placement may vary depending on the player’s position at the time of descent.

Hazards & Entity Presence

Level 1 is classified as a mildly hazardous environment, though the threat level increases substantially during specific events. The primary anomaly of concern is the emergence of entities known as Smilers, which manifest during blackout conditions. These entities are highly aggressive, luminescent, and known to silently stalk players in the dark.

Spatial dynamics significantly affect survival likelihood:

Open Chambers (Garage Floors): These areas provide minimal cover, making avoidance of Smilers difficult during blackouts.

Tunnels and Narrow Corridors: Although claustrophobic, these areas offer better line-of-sight breaks and marginally increased chances of evasion.

There are no known passive threats under stable lighting conditions, but environmental anxiety and fog-induced disorientation remain notable secondary concerns.

Notable Phenomena

Level 1 is host to several anomalous environmental events that contribute to its dynamic and hostile nature:

  • Ambience Event: At irregular intervals, the level generates ambient soundscapes. These range from mechanical hums to distant echoes, presumably emulating sounds one might expect in an industrial or vehicular context. While these sounds have no direct mechanical function, they increase perceived tension and unease.

  • Blackout Event: During this event, all lighting systems in the level temporarily deactivate, enveloping the entire complex in darkness for a limited period. Unlike Level 0, these blackouts are temporary and typically resolve on their own after an estimated 30 seconds. Smilers become active during this time, emerging from peripheral areas and aggressively pursuing intruders. Survivability during blackouts is heavily reliant on positioning, timing, and prior knowledge of safe paths.

  • Flicker Event: In this less severe phenomenon, lights across the level toggle rapidly on and off for several seconds. While no entities have been confirmed to spawn during flickers alone, the visual disruption is enough to disorient unprepared explorers and may serve as a precursor to more dangerous events.
