Delphin2 procedures and checklists
Each of the lists describes the procedure specific materials and procedures. Before going for an experiment, ensure all the materials listed for the different parts of the experiment are available.
Before an experiment it is recommended to print this list and tick off the different components that have been checked.
General in water experiment
-
Materials
- Lubricant gel for o-rings
- Lubricant spray for waterproof connectors
- Paper towels for cleaning
-
Formalities
- Ensure a risk assessment to cover the work was accepted and is valid
- Ensure sufficient people to help with the experiment are available
-
Assembly in Lab if Delphin2 was opened:
- Run dry land test with the pressure vessel open
- Clean o-ring and grooves for the o-ring
- Connect all connectors at the front of the vehicle through the o-ring
- Run dry land test again, to check everything is connected correctly
- Close the front of the pressure vessel, add lubricant to the o-ring there
- Tighten the bolts at the front of the vessel by one rotation, going diagonal to the next bolt as often as possible. This is to ensure even pressure on the o-ring. Continue until bolts are firmly screwed in.
- Repeat the same for the back of the pressure vessel
always:
- Run dry land test
- Charge the batteries
- Apply lubricant spray to waterproof connectors
- Check dummy connectors for all unused connectors are packed
-
Transport Materials:
- Small and large trolley
- Ropes for tying the AUV and other components firmly onto the trolley/transport vessel
Formalities:
- Check suitable vehicle and driver are available for the test date
-
At the location (most components are in the Delphin2 toolbox, but need double checking) Materials:
- Allen key set (TODO: add sizes and what they are used for)
- Bolts for attaching the Delphin2 hull(TODO: add sizes, what they are used for)
- Bolts for attaching the external assembly at the front and the back
- Bolts for attaching the four control surfaces
- Dead end connectors for unused waterproof connectors on the pressure hull
- External magnets for switching the vehicle and actuators on
- Waterproof tape for attaching the magnets
- Charged Delphin2 Laptop, charged replacement battery
- Towel
- Video recording device
Delphin2 Assembly:
- Place bottom half of the Delphin2 hull on the small trolley
- Place pressure vessel in the bottom half of the Delphin2 hull, attach to hull with bolts
- Place front and back external assembly in the pressure hull
- Attach metal parts for the control surfaces
- Attach front and back assembly with the large bolt (only three bolts used at the back, not all 4 holes can be accessed)
- Attach all connectors
- Attach dummy connectors
- Place top half of Delphin2 hull, attach with bolts (shorter bolts for the front and back connections, longer bolts for the middle section
Lake Experiment
- Additional materials recommended for outside tests
- Umbrella for rain and sun protection
- Clipboard to keep experiment list from flying away
- Compass for checking the heading
Lab Content Review
Once every year, the materials available in the Delphin2 lab need checking, especially those that only have a limited use-by date.
- Materials with limited use-by date
- Lubricant gel for O-rings
- Lubricant spray for waterproof connectors
- Other consumption materials (rarely need replacing)
- Cable ties
- Velcro cable ties (waterproof but removable, can be shaped; e.g. RS stock no. 333-9812 Hook and Look reel)
- Wires
- Bumblebee tape: Hazard warning tape, e.g. RS stock no. 711-974 (used for attaching the magnets)
- Epoxy glue
- Self amalgamating tape for waterproofing wires
- Replacement components for Delphin2
- Magnets for switching Delphin2 on and off
- Control surface assemblies
