Deliverable
At SCR we want our members to get three things out of their time on the team
- A project based educational experience that they can be proud of
- At least one competition victory
- Applicable industry experience for getting a job/internship/going to graduate school
The Pipeline
In order to meet those three goals, we have constructed a pipeline to make our members good at robotics. In general, teams and members have better outcomes if they have matching skill/difficulty levels. A robotics expert would not have fun on a team that made a line follower, and a beginner would not have fun on a robotics team that builds autonomous drones.
We have teams for three main skill levels:
- High-Growth Team: Members may have some robotics/engineering experience, but still need some guidance in order to grow. This team will have an experienced member as team captain who may be getting into project management for the first time. Currently this is our Pluto team
- Challenge Team: This competition is best suited for members with intensive past robotics experience (FRC, FTC, and the High-Growth Team are examples). This team gets to truly test their robotics skills with help from more experienced members. The team captain also should be experienced and may be getting into project management for the first time, but should probably have a past leadership experience at least as a project owner or a subteam lead. Currently this is our NRC team
- Prize Competition Team: This is the most advanced team, with members having expertise in one or many different areas of robotics. The challenge they compete in has a large impact in the sense that if we won it would be a Big Deal™ in terms of money or recognition. The team captain should have previous experience with leadership. Currently this is our IGVC team
Team Philosophy
- Have fun
- Everything should be designed (this guide, your robot, team structure, etc.)
- No design is perfect (never be complacent)
- Learn quickly and improve each other
- Spend the year preparing to win
Motivation
Everyone has a different reason for doing competitive robotics. Take your motivation and apply it to this team and you will get out as much as you put in. Don't set the bar to being the best at OU - set it to beating the best teams in the world.
Show us what you can do.
