SCR Anet A8 Cura Definition

https://raw.githubusercontent.com/SoonerRobotics/SCR-Resources/master/3dprinter/scr_anet_a8.def.json

  1. Download scr_anet_a8.def.json from the link above and place it into C:\Program Files\Ultimaker Cura 4.3\resources\definitions. This may be a different folder for you depending on your Cura version, install location, and operating system.
  2. Open Cura or restart it if you already have it open.
  3. Navigate in the menu bar to Settings > Printer > Manage Printers.... Select Add.
  4. Select Add a non-networked printer and scroll down until you find the Anet category. Open it and select SCR Anet A8 and then click Add.
  5. You can now use the SCR Anet A8 printer profile!

Using the definition will result in better printing time estimation along with some other low-level improvements.

Cura Print Settings

The section will guide you through some of the Cura Print settings that you may want to change for your prints

Layer Height

Layer Height defines how tall each layer of the print will be. This is one of the main settings that effects print time and quality. Lower layer heights will have better quality but take significantly longer. We recommend not going below 0.12mm and not above 0.36mm. 0.2mm will work for most prints. It is also recommended to keep this value in multiples of 0.04mm.

Infill Density

Infill density defines what percent of the "inside" of your print will be filled with material. Higher infill densities will result in stronger prints. We recommend keeping this between 5% and 40%. 15% is a good starting point unless your print needs strength.

Printing Temperature

Printing Temperature is how hot the nozzle will be when extruding the filament. It is important to make sure the temperature is set to match whatever material you are printing. This value will change by the roll, but 200C will work for most PLA rolls. Check the roll for a SCR label for the temperature we found best or ask in the #3d-printers channel.

Print Speed

This is how fast the nozzle will be moving while it is printing. Along with Layer Height, this setting has a significant impact on printing time and quality. Lower values print slower but have better quality and fewer issues. We recommend setting this between 40mm/s and 70mm/s. 60mm/s will work for most prints, but 50mm/s will work better for small prints.

Generate Support

If your model has geometry that is floating over nothing, you will need to generate supports to print that geometry on top of. Try to design your prints so that you minimize support as it can significantly increase print times, reduce quality, and waste filament.

Build Plate Adhesion

These settings will add extra material around the bottom of the print to improve adhesion to the bed. We recommend only using Skirt if you are using the SCR Anet A8 printer as it has excellent bed adhesion.

Skirt will draw lines around the model, but not touching it. This is useful to remove any bad filament at the end of the nozzle before it starts the real print and is recommended.

Brim will draw lines around the model that go right up to the model. This does not use a lot of filament and is useful if you are having small bed adhesion issues.

Raft will print an entire raft that your print will sit on top of. This is very useful for very small prints as they will have poor bed adhesion due to low surface area contact with the bed. We recommend only using this for small prints as it can take a long time to print for large prints.
