Categories (like meyer-briggs, 4 colours, etc) have been debunked but can still be a useful starting point for the discussions. If it's too complicated for people to talk about themselves, you can do this with celebrities/politicians first. It's helpful for people to write their own "how-to" interact with me to make preferences explicit.

One team did introductions using skittles: each colour had a theme (travel, food, working habits) and each member was invited to picked one in turn and share their experience on the theme.
Maybe this can happen at a smaller scale by adding a question at standup / regular meeting?
