A guide for using Vortex, Mod Engine 2 and Seamless Co-op together
Some instructions copied from this guide by MintedTea and TheFairHairedBoy
Seamless Co-op can be used for seperate save files. If combined with Vortex, users can easily switch between modded game and base game for online stuff. Vortex is also a powerful tool to manage mod file conflicts
-
Make sure that you have a clean install of Elden Ring. As in, absolutely NO MODS installed. Completely re-download the game if you have to. If you aren't willing to make sure of this, I am not responsible for this method not working.
-
First install Vortex
-
Then open Vortex, follow this picture to configure Vortex to work with Nexus
-
After that install Elden Ring Support For Vortex using the mod manager download option
-
Then in Vortex's Games tab, search Elden Ring and click manage
-
You can set Vortex download and mod path in the Settings tab if needed
-
Download Elden Mod Loader from Nexus. You can find it here. Elden Mod Loader is used for Seamless Co-op mod.
-
In Vortex's Mods tab, click install from file, and choose the downloaded Elden Mod Loader zip and install.
-
After installation, it should be automatically enabled. then download ModEngine2 zip from here
-
Like Elden Mod Loader, install ModEngine2 using install from file option
-
After installation, right click on mod name and select open in file explorer
-
You have to move the contents inside ModEngine-2.0.0-preview3-win64 folder out to make it look like this(Otherwise files will be deployed to a wrong location)
-
Then you can delete the ModEngine-2.0.0-preview3-win64 folder since it's now empty
-
Download Seamless Co-op mod here
-
In Vortex, right click on the former installed Elden Mod Loader and open in file manager. Copy files from seamless coop mod zip to make the file tree look like this:(don't forget to enter a password in cooppassword.ini)
file structure │ dinput8.dll │ launch_elden_ring_seamlesscoop.exe │ mod_loader_config.ini │ ├─mods │ │ elden_ring_seamless_coop.dll │ └─SeamlessCoop cooppassword.ini
-
Then click Deploy Mods in Votrex
-
IMPORTANT
Open Game Mods Folder and use launch_elden_ring_seamlesscoop.exe to launch the game. Create a character and load into the game. Then you can close the game. This is for creating the separate save files(the .co2 one). After this the seamlesscoop.exe is not needed.
-
In Vortex's Dashboard tab, click add tool, new, and in target navigate to game install folder and select launchmod_eldenring.bat. This is used for launch the modded game later on.
-
You can make this primary so that when you click the play button in the top left corner, the launchmod_eldenring.bat will be launched.
-
Now you can install other mods through Vortex. Keep in mind that you may need to manually change the file structure of the mod to make it be deployed to ModEngine2's mod folder. And don't forget to Deploy Mods before launching the game.
-
For mod file conflicts, see this wiki
-
If you want to play your non-modded save and game, simply click Purge Mods from Vortex, then launch the game through steam. If you want to play your modded save and game, simply click Deploy Mods from Vortex, then launch the game through Vortex.
