The Unarchiver is not an archive explorer.

Inside the file manager, double click on any archive file you can think of, and it's unpacked in the same folder, with the selection being changed from the archive file you just opened, to the folder that you have unpacked. Open an archive from elsewhere, and then you will get a new file manager window with the unpacked item selected.

The Unarchiver will make sure that only a single item is created when you unpack an archive. If the archive only has one file or folder in it, then that file or folder is what you will end up with in the end. If the archive has more than one item in its top level, then the contents will be put into a folder with the same name as the archive.
