HOW TO: Configure the Weather Meter

To display the weather in your location, the Weather Meter gadget must be configured with the Latitude and Longitude of the location you want to monitor. The legacy "short" codes (which include ZIP codes and postal codes) and the newer hexadecimal "long" codes are not supported.

To configure your gadget for your latitude and longitude, do the following:

  1. Open the Settings for the Weather Meter by clicking the wrench icon in the upper right corner.
  2. Click the Search icon (magnifying glass) to open the Location Search window.
  3. In the search box, enter your city and country (e.g., "London, UK" or "Manhattan, NY, US"), and press Enter. To get more precise coordinates, you can enter street addresses in addition to city, and state/country names (e.g., "1600, Pennsylvania, Washington, DC"). Note that it is best to use commas between house numbers and street names as each component of the address is a different search term.
  4. From the list of locations, click the entry that matches the location you want. Your gadget will refresh and show the current weather at your location.
  5. Alternatively, you can use Google Maps to find your coordinates.
    • Open your browser and go to https://www.google.com/maps/.
    • Find the location you want to use and left-click the map to drop a pin, or right-click the map and select "What's here?".
    • In the small pop-up window, click the location coordinates to be taken to that location.
    • In the left pane, select the decimal latitude (the first number of the pair) and copy it to your Windows clipboard (do not select the DMS coordinate). Paste the latitude into the Latitude text box in the Weather Meter Settings, being sure to remove any leading or trailing spaces, then press Enter to save the change.
    • Next, select the decimal longitude (the second number of the pair) and copy it to your Windows clipboard (do not select the DMS coordinate). Paste the longitude into the Longitude text box in the Weather Meter Settings, being sure to remove any leading or trailing spaces, then press Enter.
    • Your gadget will refresh and show the current weather at your location.

:bulb: Tips:

  • In the Weather Meter, click the weather icon to pop up the 5-Day Forecast.
  • Click the location name to view the current weather radar. Note that the map will be centered on the region where the observation station is located, nearest to your selected coordinates.
