Terminology

Just to make sure I'm clear, tool refers to anything you make out of a tool material (gems, crystallized chaos essence, and flint). Currently, that means swords, pickaxes, shovels, axes, hoes, sickles, and bows are "tools". Harvest tools (mining tools) are pickaxes, shovels, and axes. Basically tools you dig with. Harvest level and mining level mean the same thing.

Tiers

There are currently four tiers of tools (not counting gag tools). You don't need to make all of them to progress, but you most likely will. Note that the "-tipped" upgrades can change the mining level of any harvest tool, and be applied to any tool for bonus durability.

  • Flint: Stone mining level, better stats. They can be made as soon as you find wood and gravel, so you won't even need to touch wood/stone tools if you don't want to.
  • Regular Gems: Iron mining level, better stats. Probably the easiest tier to skip, but still useful.
  • Supercharged Gems: Mining level 4 (one above diamond), better stats than diamond. You will likely spend a while with these, so get comfortable handling them!
  • Chaos: Made from crystallized chaos essence. That means you'll need a nether star! Same mining level as supercharged, high durability, insane mining speeds, and special abilities! It will take some time to make chaos tools, but your patience will be rewarded...

Decorating

By crafting a tool with a tool material, you can change the appearance of different parts of the tool! The materials must be adjacent to the tool (positioning matters). Currently, I estimate there are 48,195,000 possible tools. Yikes.

  • Materials include gems (regular and supercharged), flint, crystallized chaos essence, and glass. Glass restores the tool part to its original state. These have no affect on the way the tool works, it merely changes the look.
  • These adjacent parts are internally known as head left, head middle, head right, and rod deco. You don't need to remember that, but it should give you an idea of how it works.
  • Wool can be placed in any slot to add a "grip" to the tool. It also boosts mining speed a bit.

Repairing

Decorating a tool (see previous section) repairs it. How much depends on the tool and the material. Note that flint can only repair flint tools, but flint tools can also be repaired with gems.
Repair values per piece of material:

  • Flint tools: Flint restores 50% durability, anything else restores 100%.
  • Regular gem tools: Regular gems restore 25%. Supercharged gems restore 100%.
  • Supercharged and Chaos tools: Regular gems restore 12.5%. Supercharged gems restore 50%.
  • Crystallized chaos essence will fully repair any tool.
  • Glass restores no durability for any tool.

Abilities of Tools

Tools from this mod have a couple of unique features that make them nicer to use than vanilla-like tools.

  • Right-click to place: If you have a block or a torch bandolier in the slot after a harvest tool, or in the last hotbar slot, right-clicking with the tool in hand will place the block! Handy for placing torches while caving or just building.
  • You broke it!: Forgot to keep up with your repairs? No worries! If you break a tool, it will be replaced with a broken tool item that can be repaired.
  • Statistics!: Not really an ability, I guess. But have you ever wondered how many blocks you've mined with your trusty pickaxe? How many things you've hit with your sword? No? Well, hover over your tool and press control to find out anyway!

Chaos Skills

Chaos tools have special abilities. They have to have something special for the hefty price tag, right?
These are a work in progress, so this list isn't final.

  • No Speed Penalty: Normally, Minecraft slows down your digging when you are in the air, or underwater. Chaos tools completely negate this! Building while flying with your crazy awesome jetpack? Now it's easier.
  • Chaos Orb Shot (Sword Only): If you block with the chaos sword with a certain amount of time, it will charge up a projectile. Fire it by swinging your sword! It's not quite as powerful as hitting an enemy directly, but it does get a boost from sharpness and strength potions. The chaos orbs also bounce off of blocks! However, the it will vanish in a puff of smoke if it bounces a certain number of times, or exists for too long. Firing also damages the sword a bit, just one point.
