Chaos essence is a strange, soft material obtaining from Chaos Ore. In its basic form, it's mostly used for upgrading gems, but it can also be upgraded into higher tiers. Grab as much Chaos Essence as you can, you'll need it!

Tiers

Note that each tier requires four of the previous to craft. So you would need 32 essence for a chaos sword, and 48 for a chaos pickaxe, for example.

• Chaos Essence: The basic form obtained from ore. Too soft to do much, other than enhancing other materials.
• Enriched Chaos Essence: Enhanced by redstone and glowstone, this denser form conducts strange energies, but is still fairly soft.
• Crystallized Chaos Essence: Further refined by the power of a nether star, this material is more than durable enough to craft tools. Note this is crafted with Nether Shards, a fractured form of a nether star. One star is enough to make six crystallized essence.

Blocks and Shards

All tiers can be crafted into storage blocks. Not sure why you would with the higher tiers, but you can. The basic Chaos Essence can also be crafted into useless shards. The shards can also appear if you are using an Infernal Furnace from Thaumcraft...
