Cooling

Currently, a Julabo FP40 chiller is available for DUT cooling. It operates with a coolant mixture of water and Ethanol which is pumped through a cooling plate in a closed loop. The setup can reach DUT temperatures of down to -15...-20 °C depending on the thermal interface and the DUT heat dissipation. A temperature sensor is mounted to the cooling plate and provides precise temperature feedback to the chiller, resulting in typically less than 0.1 °C variation.

The cooling plate is prepared to accommodate FE-I4-sized PCBs with 4 mounting holes spaced 10 cm apart vertically and horizontally. The top surface is flat and requires a DUT-specific custom made heat transfer block, which has to be provided by the user.

Dry air

To prevent ice formation on the DUT or carrier PCB, the cooling plate can be placed in a sealed foam box. Two different sizes are available with approximate 15x15 cm² and 20x30 cm² and about 7 cm height. Both boxes are quipped with Polyimide windows (aka Kapton). The cooling boxes can be flooded with up to 15 l/min dry air or Nitrogen to keep the humidity low during the irradiation.
