Lab 2-1: Intro to Packet Tracer and Deploying/Pinging Devices

Objective:

Introduction to the Packet Tracer interface

Goals:

Register for Cisco Network Academy account

Deploy network devices in Packet Tracer

Cable network devices together in Packet Tracer

Summary:

In this lab I used Packet Tracer to simulate creating a simple network. Some useful things I learned was what different cables may be available to be used for connecting a PC to a Switch. Or what different end devices may be used when connected to a Switch. There weren't problems but it took some time to understand what the simulator was doing, such as the blinking lights showing an active connection.

Things to consider:

How do you deploy workstations and switches in Packet Tracer?

You look for the devices you want to deploy and click and drag them on to the blank space. For Switches it was the selection box labeled Swicthes, and for PCs it is the selection box labeled End Devices.

How do connect these devices with cables?

In the category labeled Connections, it will show you what available connection cable types there are and you can click and choose to connect two devices at a time.

How do you access the command-line terminal on a Packet Tracer PC?

Clicking on the PC object, choosing the Desktop tab will show a Command Prompt Option. Selecting that will open the command-line terminal of the Packet Tracer PC.
