This is a space where we can start writing user documentation for the VRE.
Known issues
SSL problems
Problem: Some users run into many timeouts or get SSL problems.
Possible causes: Often, this is caused by the network they are in. Many company/institution networks block all requests to ports different than 80 and 443. In the current VRE setup (2019-10-15), most services run on different ports (8000, 8001, 8191, ...), so they will be blocked. Sometimes this can be due to old browsers, too.
Solutions: Try connecting from other machines or other networks (e.g. your institution VPN, eduroam). Try updating your browser. Try asking your network people whether the requests are blocked and whether they can unblock them. In future, we will try to avoid ports other than 80 or 443 (by reverse proxy), but we cannot say how many weeks/months that will take.
