The Ninth Circle of NetHack - ScottBurger/going_rogue_podcast GitHub Wiki
NetHack is maybe one of the hardest videogames of all time. Half of the difficulty is understanding its terse mechanics. There are many fans of NetHack and it's impactful enough to be featured in the Museum of Modern Art. Jumping in raw is not recommended for everyone. This guide is intended to give an increase order of complexity for someone to walk the path of understanding, and maybe appreciating NetHack.
How To Use This Guide
Because traditional roguelikes have a LOT going on, it’s best to start with an accessible one in a genre you already like.
Nethack is a western fantasy game sort of like DND meets Discworld with its themes. So if you’re not super into that genre, maybe this guide can help get you there slowly.
The First Circle: Gateway Rogues
Approachable and fun for people who have never played a traditional roguelike before. Good production quality and accessibility options. These games are very quick to beat a run on and give you a good sense of what you’re in for in this genre.
