Tarnocai Canadian Map - Sbali11/PeatlandFirePrediction GitHub Wiki

Description

A set of shapefiles capturing where the peatlands are, what type (bog, fen, swamp marsh) they are, and how much carbon they store. The data was gathered through survey and published by National Resources Canada.

  • Variables:
    • PEATLAND_P (shapefile): total peatland (%)
    • BOG_PCT (shapefile): Bog (%)
    • FEN_PCT (shapefile): Fen (%)
    • SWAMP_PCT (shapefile): Swamp (%)

    • PEATLANDFR (shapefile): Perennially frozen peatland (%)
    • PEATLANDUN (shapefile): Unfrozen peatland (%)
    • TOCC (shapefile): Layer 3, mineral-rich peat. Total organic carbon content (kg/m^2) - "the average amount of soil organic carbon of the total depth of the soil found in the land area of a soil landscape polygon"
    • MOCC (shapefile): Layer 2, basal peat. One meter organic carbon content (kg/m^2) - "the average amount of soil organic carbon of the top 100 cm ofsoil found in the land area of a soil landscape polygon"
    • SOCC (shapefile): Layer 1, surface peat. Surface organic carbon content (kg/m^2) - "the average amount of soil organic carbon of the active layer of the soil(0-30 cm) found in the land area of a soil landscape polygon"
    • The TOCC, MOCC, and SOCC variables were computed according to the following:
      • PEATCLASS (table): Peat class
      • THICK (table): Peat depth
      • BDENS (table): Bulk density (gm/cm^3) - the density of the soil
      • OCARB (table): Organic carbon (%) - how much of the soil is organic carbon
