Using Tidy5e - Sayshal/foundry-vtt-tidy-5e-sheets GitHub Wiki
Getting Tidy5e set up involves two main approaches - changing a specific sheet to use Tidy, or setting Tidy as the default for all new sheets. This works for both actor sheets (characters, NPCs, vehicles) and item sheets. Here's how both approaches work.
If you have any sheet open and want to switch it to use Tidy, this is the quickest route. You're working directly with that specific document's sheet configuration.
Look for the vertical three-dot menu button at the top of your sheet - you'll see "Toggle Controls" when you hover over it. Click that, then find the gear icon for "Configure Sheet". In the dropdown that says "This Sheet", select the appropriate Tidy option (like "Tidy5e Character Sheet" for actors or "Tidy5e Item Sheet" for items). Note that "Tidy5e Classic" options are being phased out soon. Hit save and you're done with that specific sheet.
When you want all new sheets of a particular type to automatically use Tidy, you'll need to change the defaults. There are three ways to handle this, depending on where you want to make the change and how much control you need.
Start the same way as changing an individual sheet - click the toggle controls button, then the gear icon for "Configure Sheet". This time though, look for "Default Sheet" instead of "This Sheet". Pick your Tidy option and save. Now any new sheets of this document type will use Tidy automatically.
This method is convenient because it sets the default for whatever type of document you're currently viewing. If you're on a character sheet, it sets the character default. If you're on an item sheet, it sets the item default.
Navigate to Game Settings, then Configure Settings. You'll see "Tidy 5e Sheets" in the sidebar - click that to get into Tidy-specific options. There's a "Set Tidy as Default Sheet" button that lets you check off which document types should use Tidy by default. You can select multiple types at once - actors, items, or both.
As of version 10.2.1, this bulk setting defaults to the Classic sheet since the newer Quadrone sheets are still in beta, but that'll probably change once Quadrone is fully released. Confirm your choices and accept the reload when prompted.
Head to Game Settings and Configure Settings, but this time stay on the "Core" sidebar option (it should be selected by default). Scroll down until you find "Configure Default Sheets". This opens up a more detailed interface where you can set defaults for different document types.
Look through the sidebar-organized sections and change the relevant ones to the appropriate Tidy sheet options where available. You'll find separate sections for actors (with subsections for characters, NPCs, vehicles) and items (with subsections for different item types).
The core settings approach gives you the most granular control over exactly which document types use which sheet variants. The Tidy settings menu is faster for bulk changes across multiple document types. The individual sheet method works well when you're already working with a specific type and want to set the default for just that category.
Most people find success starting with the individual sheet method to test things out, then using either the Tidy settings menu for quick bulk changes or the core settings for precise control. If you run into any issues switching between sheet types, remember that you can always go back through the same configuration menus to change things again - nothing here is permanent.
The key thing to remember is that "This Sheet" affects just the document you're looking at, while "Default Sheet" affects all new documents of that type going forward.
