Generalization Criteria - Samuel-Buteau/universal-battery-database GitHub Wiki

Four generalization criteria were proposed to ensure that the models generalize effectively.

1. Replication.

In cases where external factors, such as power outages and uncontrolled temperature fluctuations influence data collection, the model should predict what would have been measured in the absence of such ex- ternal factors.

2. Separation of Material Properties from Degradation Mechanisms.

For example, given two different cells, A and B, with different chemistries and degradation mechanisms. If a model can represent both cells A and B, then it should also be able to represent cells that have the chemistry of A and the degradation mechanisms of B, as well as cells with the chemistry of B and the degradation mechanisms of A.

3. Cycling Extrapolation.

The model should extrapolate to longer cycling terms and different cycling conditions.

4. Chemistry Extrapolation.

The model should extrapolate to new cells with similar or different chemistries.
