  • ING

    • Transaction confirmation using SMS
    • Mobile App has a version in English

  • ABN

    • It is necessary to use a tool like a calculator to confirm transactions
    • Has everything in English, including letters
    • Around 3 euro month payment including a debit card

  • Rabobank

How to open a bank account

  • Gather your documents
    • Residence permit
    • BSN
    • Proof of address document
  • Make an appointment on the website or by phone
  • Be there on time 👍

You can also try to open the bank account on the ABNAmro in the Schiphol airport using your work contract if you are lucky and persistent

Alternative banks

  • Bunq

    • Free account, while asking for no cards.
    • You can 7€ per month to have 1 or more debit cards.
    • Dutch bank, widely accepted in The Netherlands
    • You can have around 25 IBAN's within the same account, allowing some flexibility.
      • You can have one as your main account, and another one as a saving account, for example.
      • You can ask for up to 3 cards, and configure them to different IBAN's within the same account, for example.

  • N26

    • Pre-payed debit card, card is free
    • They can issue a Maestro to be used in The Netherlands
    • German bank (might not be accepted for paying service bills in The Netherlands, such as gas & energy)

  • Revolut

    • Pre-payed debit card, card is 6€ shipping for Europe
    • There is no exchange fee up to 200€ per month !!
    • The premium package also offers a nice global medical insurance
    • British bank (might not be accepted for paying service bills in The Netherlands, such as gas & energy)
    • Multicurrency features are available, even for cryptocurrencies
      • You can convert pounds to euros and vice-versa, really convenient if you plan to travel often to the UK
