General Features - SIMLabHAW/SIMLab-Emergency-Simulator GitHub Wiki

On this page the general features of the ES are introduced for both the trainer's and the trainee's view.

General Features

The ES provides many different adjustment options in order to get the best learning experience from training with this simulator. Depending on whether taking the role of the trainer or the trainee, different buttons appear on the screen and hence, different options to modifying the training are possible.

Trainer view

At the top of the trainer's view the following toolbar is displayed.

The three buttons in the top right corner are self-explanatory. Likewise, the yellow button operating the timer can be operated without further explanation.

However, when selecting the "Case Settings"-button a dropdown menu opens up. This menu provides the option to select between three different overall respiratory ratios: normal (approx. 1:2), hyper (approx. 1:1), and hypo (approx. 1:4).

When selecting the "Pathology"-button, again, a dropdown menu opens up. As to be seen below, this allows the trainer to select between several different pathology simulations. To find out more about the provided pathologies, simply click the embedded link. The default selection is a healthy sinus rhythm.

If the gear wheel on the right hand side is selected, the dynamic change between the trainer's and trainee's view can be modified.

In order to confirm and subsequently simulate any adaptions to the signal, every change must be confirmed by pushing the blue "OK"-button.

At the bottom of the trainer's view the following toolbar is displayed.

The left part of the bottom toolbar automatically documents all trainer activities in the Emergency Simulator together with a time stamp of the modification. Comments can be added by writing in the provided text box and confirming the entry by pushing "Submit". The resulting protocol can be printed by selecting the "Print Session"-button in the top right corner of the display.

The top right box of the bottom toolbar highlighted in red font, indicates the settings of the non-invasive blood pressure (NIBP). The simulation must be turned on by activating the switch on the left hand side of the framed box. The values can be set manually by entering the numbers directly or by using the arrows on the right side of the input field. Once the trainee measures the NIBP, the selected values are displayed in the trainee view accordingly.

The bottom right box of the bottom toolbar provides modification options regarding the defibrillation settings: a post-shock pathology can be selected and accompanying parameters can be specified. In addition, the defibrillation energy threshold can be preset as well. More information about the implied simulation options can be found on the CPR and Defibrillation page.

Trainee view

At the bottom of the trainee's view a toolbar with several different adjustment options is displayed. The functions of the individual components are explained in the following table respectively.

Button Function
turn simulation on/off
timer of the ongoing simulation
adjust the volume of the simulation
freeze the screen
take an image of the screen
resets the NIBP
snoozes the alarm tone for 2 minutes
opens the pop up menu for alarm settings
