3. Validation - SFU-Archives/digital-transfer GitHub Wiki
The Validation phase begins when the producer has deposited the Transfer package
and the archivist has made a working copy to the desktop Project folder
or, if this is not feasible because of the transfer size, attached the Deposit drive
to their local computer for analysis.
Validation is the process of deciding whether or not to accept a transfer into the repository. During this phase, the archivist verifies that the Transfer package
complies with the BagIt specification (if applicable), that no data was lost or corrupted during transmission, and that the contents of the transfer meet expectations and are suitable for long-term archival retention.
The analysis undertaken during validation also generates descriptive data that can be captured in the AIS Accession record
for later use during arrangement and description.
