3D Magnetohydrodynamic Blast Wave - SFG-CUHK/scorpio-test-cases GitHub Wiki

The MHD blast wave was computed by numerous authors, we performed the test case following the same setting in Gardiner & Stone (2008) using Scorpio. The test case is similar to the 2D HD blast wave problem under low $\beta$ ambient medium. The simulation setting is summarized in the following table.

Parameter Setting Parameter Setting
x, y, z [-0.5, 0.5] Nx, Ny, Nz 200
Gamma 5/3 CFL 0.4
Solver HLLD Flux-limiter minmod
tend 0.02 r0 0.125
B Bvec

Here x, y, z are the dimension of the simulation domain, Nx, Ny, Nz are the number of grid cells in the corresponding directions. In the initial condition, the pressure inside radius rleqr0 is P=100, while P=1 outside radius r>r0. Below is the density at the last snapshot along the slice of y=0 plane, similar features as Figure 8 of Gardiner & Stone (2008) are captured by Scorpio. A shell of a fast and weakly compressive shot dominated by the magnetic field radiating outward is clearly shown. Besides, at the two ends of the sphere parallel to the magnetic field, dense shells propagate parallel to the field direction separating the cold surrounding gas and interior hot gas are also shown by the two red crescents.
