2D Hydrodynamic Blast Wave - SFG-CUHK/scorpio-test-cases GitHub Wiki

Follow the test case in Skinner & Ostriker (2010) and Gardiner & Stone (2008), we investigate a 2D circular shock wave with setting similar to Skinner & Ostriker (2010).

Parameter Setting Parameter Setting
x [-0.5, 0.5] y [-0.75, 0.75]
Nx 800 Ny 1200
Gamma 5/3 CFL 0.4
r0 0.1 rho0 1
Solver HLLC Flux-limiter minmod
tend 0.2

We increase the simulation resolution to 800x1200 from 200x300 in Skinner & Ostriker (2010). In the initial conditions, the pressure of gas within radius r0 is P=10, while P=0.1 for the background gases and the density of the gas is rho0 uniformly in the whole domain. The hot gas inside the r<r_0 the region will result in a circular blast wave radiating outward. Below are the plots of the last snapshot calculated by Scorpio.

(a) Density of the box at the end of the simulation

(b) Radial density and velocity profile of the same snapshot

Result of the 2D hydrodynamic blast wave, simulated with Scorpio.

The result are comparable to Figure 5 & 6 in Skinner & Ostriker (2010).
