System Description

Mister ED aims to streamline the triage process for patients seeking emergency medical treatment by allowing it to take place remotely and subsequently lessening the load and congestion at the physical hospital locations. Patients are able to create an account and log in to the system to see the current load on nearby hospitals, informing their decision about which one they would like to visit to minimize their wait time. Once the patient has selected a hospital they are able to enter a queue and be connected to a nurse virtually and be triaged, at which point the nurse is able to initialize next steps. Should the medical condition of the patient be deemed less serious, the patient may be advised to stay home and avoid the hospital altogether, reducing the load. This option may be used in instances where over the counter medication or simple first aid such as rest or ice will suffice to treat the patient. In more serious instances the nurse may connect the patient to a doctor later in the day through an appointment, or even send a dispatch request to EMTs to send an ambulance depending on severity. Administrators are able to manage the system as a whole and the accounts within it to both maintain staff accounts and to help other users with technical problems. The system acts as the central hub in connecting these actors together to minimize the load on hospitals. This allows people who need medical attention to receive it in a timely manner, while helping others avoid unnecessary trips and wasted time when uncertain about their medical situation.
