Ethical Issues - SCCapstone/WorkAnyPlace GitHub Wiki
Our app will collect standard information when people sign up for it such as name, phone number (for notification purposes), and location (for the purpose of queuing up local job postings). Since our app will have messaging capability, the job poster will never be required to give out their phone number to the job doer but eventually they will have to give them some sort of address if the job is based out of their home. Since we want to be able to protect the privacy of the users, the address of the job won't be available for people to see in the initial job posting, just the general area. A user will have to accept the job, communicate with the job poster, and when the job poster eventually accepts the job doer it will be on them to share their address. By following a system similar to what AirBNB does, it gives the person looking to do the job just enough information so they can decide if the location is good for them or not, then the specific information once the job poster is satisfied with the person who accepted the job.
Another ethical issue that we thought of is people could potentially post a bunch of fake jobs. We hope that our rating system would help combat this and that people would see that the job poster has low ratings and therefore not accept the jobs.
People harassing people over the messages feature of our app could be another ethical issue. Our way of combating this would be to only have this line of communication open once the job/job doer has been accepted on both end and terminated once the job is complete/cancelled. That way, people couldn't continue to message each other after the job is done and if the messages ever become harassing then either part can terminate the messages completely and there would be no way to continue the conversation.
