Save Import - S9-L/FMWSaveManager GitHub Wiki

Overview

The first main feature solves a longstanding problem regarding save compatiblity among versions for Complete Box. When the Switch version of DoSD released in 2022, the save format was changed to address previous issues and architectural changes as part of a migration in two parts:

  1. The upgrade from Game Maker 8 to Game Maker Studio 2.
  2. The jump from the Windows OS to Switch.

As a result, this meant you could not use saves from the PC Doujin Release of CB on Switch. This has remained the same for the Steam release, where its saves mirror the exact same format as Switch saves.

With the newly implemented save manager, any player can now import a compatible Doujin Complete Box save into the Switch/Steam save format. If you haven't already, review the compatibility table in the GitHub repo README to see which versions are supported for the save import.

Below, you'll find instructions/notes about the Save Importer controls.

1.0.0 Save Import

Using the Save Importer

[!NOTE] Input filenames must match the following pattern gswx_<2+_DIGIT_SAVE_SLOT_#>.sav for CB Doujin saves to be validated and used by the importer.

Output Save File Format: This group of radio buttons controls what version number will be registered in the output save files after the import has successfully completed. For the most part, the version number isn't relevant anymore for Switch/Steam save files and only appears on the save/load UI to notify the last version of CB the save was played on; it used to be read by the save loading routine to determine if any special data processing/edge case handling should have been done for certain earlier versions of Doujin CB.

This importer option is simply here for convenience in batch writing the same version number to a large number of files.

Save Import Mode: Single File forces the importer to only handle a single valid file input, while the Batch Import by Folder only allows an existing folder and strictly scans this top-level folder for valid save files (all other subfolders inside are ignored). This is a guardrails feature to explicitly control how many files should be fed into the import workflow at once.

Original Save: Add the input file/folder path to your valid save(s). Alternatively, click the button on the right to open the file browser and select your input file/folder.

[!WARNING] Save files imported through the Batch Import by Folder option will overwrite any existing gsw Switch/Steam saves that share the same save slot # in the output folder. Ideally, you should set the output folder to a newly created folder to avoid naming conflicts during the import process.

Output Save Folder: Add the output folder path where your imported saves will be located after the importer is finished. Alternatively, click the button on the right to open the file browser and select your output folder.

Once you've set the previous options, click the Import Selected Saves button to begin the save file import. The text box below will display the logging output and notify whether the import was successful. Successfully imported files will now match the filename pattern for Switch/Steam saves: gsw_<3+_DIGIT_SAVE_SLOT_#>.sav
