ALTERNATE MATERIALS WHICH CAN REDUCE THE EMBODIED ENERGY

*There are several alternative materials to acrylic sheets that can reduce embodied energy. Here are a few options:

Polycarbonate sheets: Polycarbonate is a lightweight, durable and shatterproof material that can be used as a replacement for acrylic sheets. It has a lower embodied energy as compared to acrylic and is recyclable.

PETG sheets: PETG (Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol) is a clear plastic that is an excellent alternative to acrylic sheets. It has a lower embodied energy and is recyclable.

*There are several alternative materials to aluminum that have less embodied energy, depending on the specific application and requirements of the rod. Here are a few options:

Bamboo: Bamboo is a highly renewable and sustainable material that can be used to make rods. It has a very low embodied energy and is lightweight, making it a good alternative for some applications.

*In nuts and bolts we can use nuts bolts made up of steel it reduce about 79% of embodied energy.

  • In place of nylon rod and sleeve pipe which has embodied energy about 148 MJ/Kg,we can use low density plastic rod which has embodied energy about 86 MJ/Kg to reduce net embodied energy.

  • Foam board typically has a high embodied energy due to its production process which involves the use of petroleum-based materials. However, there are alternative materials that can be used as a substitute for foam board that have a lower embodied energy. Here are some options:

Cork board: Cork board is a natural, renewable material that is lightweight and has good insulating properties. It can be used as a substitute for foam board in applications where rigidity is not required.
