Introduction

Sarawak is a city on the northern part of the island of Borneo in Southeast Asia, occupying approximately one-third of its area. It is the capital of the nation of Pan Asia and, at the time of writing, the largest city on MCAtlas in terms of both population and land area.

History

Sarawak was founded on January 18, 2020, by Simonipolis, with the initial goal of claiming all the land of the former kingdom/current Malaysian state of Sarawak. The area that Sarawak occupies on MCAtlas was almost entirely untouched at the time of the city's founding as the majority of the server's players ignore Southeast Asia entirely and opt for Europe and North America.

Once Sarawak began recruitment to increase its land claims, the city saw steady growth and became the second-largest city on the server by the summer of 2020, passing 100 residents. However, due to the strong recruitment of Warszawa, Sarawak could not pass it and become the largest city at that time. After a recruitment drive that left the city burnt out, Sarawak's population shrunk into the low fifties. However, population growth eventually rebounded and on November 29, 2020, Sarawak passed Warszawa and became the largest city on MCAtlas in terms of population and tied with Warszawa for overall land area. It would only become the largest in overall land area with Warszawa's accidental deletion.

At its height, Sarawak held a population of 164 residents and led Pan Asia which itself reached a population high of 395 in early to mid-2021. Sarawak's population has dropped significantly and now usually fluctuates between the mid-50s to mid-40s as of October 2021.

Administrative Districts

As the city's population and area expanded, it was divided into eight districts in an attempt to make its administration more manageable. These districts are:

Sri Aman District: Sarawak's administrative district where spawn is located. It features the Rajah's Palace, the Diplomacy Center, the Ferris Wheel, the Map Art Gallery, and Biome Tower. Totems can be purchased directly behind spawn.

Sambas District: The city's southwestern district, this area primarily features Chinese architecture and skyscrapers. Prominent buildings in this district are the giant stone Buddha, the city's casino, Hong'En Pagoda, and Taipei 101.

Sintang District: Sarawak's southeastern district. Described by its former mayor, Corn_Fields as “very mellow,” this district is largely residential and features a hedge maze, mob zoo, head museum and court house.

Brunei District: A district in Sarawak's north near its border. This district is the smallest, completely non-residential, and houses some of the city's best examples of Islamic architecture.

Kuching District: Sarawak's western district is where Sarawak was founded before expanding eastward. The area retains much of its initial, basic architecture (most prominently Fort Margherita) and also has the city's main port, massive twin defensive cannons, a lighthouse, aquarium, and the arena for Sarawak's national sport, Silewak.

Miri District: Sarawak's northern district is entirely residential, largely coastal, and is most notably the residence of Silent_Companion.

Sibu District: Sarawak's central district is the largest after Kapit and where the majority of Sarawak's population resides. The prominent buildings are Sarawak's central mosque, the city's farms, and its observatory.

Kapit District: Kapit District is its furthest east and functions as a non-residential, park area. This district features the Crystal Forest, the city's mob spawner, and panda grove.
