Here are some technical tutorials and resources for Prof. Nicolas Marechal’s classes on Virtual Reality at Feng-Chia University.
DESIGNING NEW EXPERIENCES THROUGH EXTENDED REALITIES
My first course is an elective and runs every second semester (September to January). It is open to all students at Feng-Chia. This course takes a design-oriented approach, encouraging students to experiment with virtual reality as a cultural experience rather than a technical one. We start by choosing a film, analyse a sequence then adapt it to a virtual reality experience. It is structured as a series of hands-on recipes to help students learn the fundamentals of virtual reality using Unity 2022 (with upcoming support for Unity 6). In the second part of the course, students will develop their own VR experience, practice what they have learned, supported by our extensive library of textures and assets to achieve professional results.

ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN (7+8)
This course is part of the architectural design studio course for YR4 students in the School of Architecture. It is offered in both the first and second semester each year. This course is design led and presents VR as a window into the future by asking: What is the future, and how do we engage with it using architecture as a medium? We engage with difficult probable futures (e.g., war, climate change) and preferable futures as response to the uncertainty of the world (e.g., community living). We aim to rethink architecture through a socio-material approach, emphasizing the interplay between social dynamics and material conditions. To achieve this, we view VR as a discursive and performative tool, allowing us to move beyond the established habits of modernity while also crafting meaningful immersive experiences.
