9/13/20 Lab 2 Adds and DNS: This week's lab focused on setting up domains, configuring active directory, DNS manager, host, and pointer accounts. A big problem that I ran into while going through this lab had to do with the part where I was configuring DNS manager. The specific step that tripped me up was linking the forward lookup zone AAAA hosts to the reverse lookup zone PTR record. Initially, the hostnames would not sync and would give me errors claiming that there was no suitable path. After troubleshooting this issue, I came to the conclusion that there must be a copy of the PTR and/or AAAA somewhere else. Once I dug around the DNS manager, I found the duplicate records/hosts in a different section. I was able to have the PTR and AAAA hostname (data) sync properly with each other after I deleted the duplicates. Interestingly enough once I added the wks01-robert to the robert domain, I went back into DNS manager in ad01-robert and found that it automatically created a host and ptr record for itself. Another issue I ran into was pinging the domain from the wks01 terminal. The directions showed that I was supposed to be able to ping however I was unable to. I fixed this issue by going ahead of the step and changed the workgroup to be a domain instead. After making this change I was successfully able to ping the domain.
