Who is Mine and Slash for - RobertSkalko/Mine-And-Slash-Rework GitHub Wiki

So you found this mod and are wondering should you add it or not. This page should clear up everything!

First, Mine and Slash acts as a combination of 3 things: an MMORPG, an ARPG and a minecraft mod.

It can be used to easily create an MMORPG server with an entire leveling and gearing progression by just dropping it inside the modpack.

The design philosophy is about creating a long progression looter game that satisfies the ARPG looter itch while also being capable of being an MMO.

And yes it can be played fully Singleplayer too!

Now for the drawbacks.

Mine and Slash overrides 99% of combat mechanics!

This means unless Mine and Slash allows it, other combat mods will not work.

More specifically the mod overrides damage, healing between mobs and players.

This means for example, a modded Sword will be mostly useless, and that will be reflected by a tooltip saying the item lacks a "Soul".

The Soul is really just a name for Mine and Slash Stats. These will give the item damage or other important Mns Stats.

This is the primary compatibility method of modded armor and weapons. Giving them Mine and Slash stats.

There is also a new datapack that allows you to make vanilla stats like say Armor also provide Mine and Slash Armor.

Mods not compatible in any way:

  • Spell/Magic Mods: We couldn't find a way to make this work. The short explanation is: for Mine and Slash to function as the main form of progression, it can't allow other mods to replace it, especially if those mods don't have levels.

As an example, what's the point of leveling up to 100, and spending mana to cast a Mine and Slash Fireball spell, if your starter spell from a Magic Mod like.. Wizardry would kill any mob instantly, no matter their level?

On the other hand, if Mine and Slash gave high level mobs more health, other Magic Mods would become useless naturally as you level up. And even if they are configured to deal say.. 50000 damage with endgame spells, they will still compete with Mine and Slash which is not intended.

I'm always open to suggestions and ideas but this is one problem that we couldn't figure out how to solve ever since the first version of Mine and Slash.

Tldr: Mine and Slash overrides combat mechanics, making other combat mods useless unless it specifically allows them to function in some compatible way. Avoid Magic/Spell mods when making a Mine and Slash Modpack, and you must always center the modpack on Mine and Slash. This mod is not meant to be added in as an extra thing!

In other way, think of Mine and Slash as a Video game using Minecraft as the engine.

Now for what Mods go well with Mine and Slash:

  • dungeon/structure mods
  • Mob mods
  • Boss mods
  • Any Mods that have armors with non-combat utility uses
  • dimension mods

In short Mine and Slash takes care of gear, stats, talents, spells, classes, endgame maps etc, but lacks certain forms of content that can be easily filled up with above mods to make a fun modpack!
