Profiles and Family
Profiles
Each person gets a profile with its own name, avatar, theme, pins, Home layout and web sign-ins. Switch profiles from the card at the top of the sidebar, or hold Home → Switch profile. Add one with Settings → Add profile.
Profiles have a role:
| Role | Notes |
|---|---|
| Adult | Full access. Web apps use your normal browser profile. |
| Child | Family controls apply. Web apps use a separate browser profile. |
| Guest | For visitors: its own browser profile, so it never sees your sign-ins. |
Family controls
For child profiles (Settings → Family controls, or manage the profile):
- Age rating limit: ESRB/PEGI ratings mapped to a minimum age, with a choice of what to do for unrated games.
- Allow and block lists for specific games and apps.
- Daily time limit and allowed hours.
- Approvals: what needs a parent's PIN: playing above the rating limit, desktop mode, switching profile and more. A request shows the reason and asks for the PIN on the spot.
Every decision is Allow, Needs approval (with the reason shown) or Deny (with the reason shown); Homebase never blocks anything silently.
PINs and recovery
- PINs are stored only as Argon2id hashes, never as plain text.
- Wrong attempts are counted and briefly lock PIN entry.
- A recovery key is shown once when family controls are set up. Keep it somewhere safe; it restores access if the PIN is forgotten.
