3. Selection of technologies - RichiWolf/HHZ_Projekt_Measurement-of-shopping-time-in-supermarkets GitHub Wiki

In order to create a concept/system for recording purchasing duration in supermarkets, the group has been working extensively on which hardware is suitable for this task.

After a detailed research about possible technologies, which are suitable for the measurement of the shopping time in supermarkets and for the indoor navigation, four of them were selected due to the promising studies. A further reason for selecting these technologies is that each of them has already been extensively tested and is partly in use (Philips a | Schreiber, Andre| Bach, Christian ). In addition, a reputable retailer occasionally conducts test series involving innovative technologies. Officially, RFID and beacons have already been used as a test (Bach, Christian ). According to internal sources augmented reality and a camera based sensor technology called visible light communication were also tested. As a result, these technologies can be better or more easily integrated and expanded, including in other areas of application. Moreover, there are many possibilities in future research and development (Fleig, Jürgen). Eventually, these technologies listed below are becoming more and more present in stationary retail.

The above mentioned technologies are:

Regarding to the camera based sensor technology, here was again selected from three different approaches. This is described in detail on page 7.
