Welcome to the documentation of the project "Measurement of shopping time in supermarkets"!
This project was brought to life by the annual project in cooporation with a retailer in the study programme "Services Computing" of the Herman-Hollerith-Zentrum (Hochschule Reutlingen).
Context
The context is the measurement of the shopping time for optimal staffing of cash registers and counters, for forecasting the expected shopping time for the customer, for product relocation / generation of detours, for efficient navigation through supermarkets and for statistics and for utilization analyses.
Project goal
The goal is to create a concept/system for recording purchasing duration (incl. recording in sub-sections of purchasing), to create a model for processing and interpreting the measured data, as well as use cases for using the information obtained, incl. integration into the processes of a retailer.
Methods
The methods are as follows:
- Structured literature analysis
- Preparation of possible use cases (business cases)
- Selection of the required sensors
- Development of a prototype in the Smart Retail Lab
- Integration of the solution into the retailer test environment
Results
The results are creating a knowledge base for technologies and applications of purchasing time measurement as well as a documentation and possible prototype development as to how the purchase time measurement could be carried out in a retailer store. Additionally there is a pronunciation of an instruction/recommendation.
Transfer
Preparation of a scientific paper documenting the results of the project. Additional there will be a presentation of the project results at the HHZ project presentation day at 5th of October 2018.
