Objectives
Our system will use gaming as a way to explain the misunderstandings that students may have towards computing. There are ten myths about Computing Science.
Ten Myths of Computing Science
- Computing Science is the subject are that studies “Computers”.
- Computer Science is a science subject and is nothing useful to people working in non-science disciplines.
- Computer Science is only suitable for science students as it requires a strong background in Mathematics.
- Learning Computer Science is more difficult than learning subjects in business and management.
- Although playing computer games is interesting, studying the knowledge behind them is boring
- Computer Science is just about Internet.
- Computer Science is the study of how to write computer programs.
- Learning computer programming involves learning how to use a programming language to write programs.
- Computer Science is just the study of uses and applications of computers and software.
- Computer Science is NOT a professional discipline.
For the myths above, a multilevel game is going to be developed. Students will have the chance to understand more about computer and the department while the myths will be solved one by one. At the planning stage, those myths will be classified as “Busted”, “Confirm” and “Plausible”. Players are required to complete certain tasks. Through each task, message about the myths will be delivered to the players while they can understand the myths in a funny way.
