Team Divergence was tasked with the creation of an educational and informative game, revolving around climate change. Our initial team meeting was indecisive, with team members disagreeing over how this project should be approached. Issues were faced balancing the serious mappings revolving around climate change whilst keeping the game engaging. Many of our original ideas and concepts had to be revisited as a result of this. However, through thorough discussion and story-boarding we were able to overcome this challenge and come to an agreement over what should be covered. Issues were also encountered when the number of levels or elements of game-play had to be decided. It was important for us not to overwhelm the player with too many features. This issue was resolved by researching the main causes and effects of climate change - and focusing on those. These accumulation of ideas eventually led to the 2d side scroller with three main level elements.
We often questioned the level of serious mapping it had towards the project objective. This issue became more prevalent when our “shooting” feature was questioned during a previous presentation. This challenge was eventually overcome through a discussion with our lecturer - Rashina. This discussion helped to consolidate and explore ideas, where current ideas were refined and elements from the discussion were incorporated. Regular team meetings also contributed to the coherency of the game. By ensuring that everyone had similar ideas to one another, we were able save time and ensure work was distributed evenly. As the fourth week of our project comes to a close, we believe the game prototype developed satisfies the client's requirements and our own expectations. Creating a game in Unity was a new experience for all of us, and we believe that the project helped us gain a better understanding of working in a team environment under tight deadlines.
