Top Gear Pocket 2 is a racing game. The player controls a rally car, and race through different closed-circuit courses. This is a direct sequel to Top Gear Pocket on the Game Boy Color, featuring a new save system, and refined the engine of its namesake.
This set has a total of 86 achievements worth 436 points, and was created by MGNS8M. A straight to the point set for a relatively easy game.
Step 1: Championship Achievements (41 missables)
All of these achievements are missable, except the Season Pass line of achievement. We will savescum through this to avoid doing a whole other playthrough for the Deal'em And Wheel'em line of achievement.
Speed Break!! get its own section, as it does not fit anywhere else. We will probably unlock it as we upgrade our car, or otherwise as soon as we begin the Time Trials, but it's good to keep it in mind.
The achievements for beating MGNS8M's times for the different courses.
First thing first, we need to create a new Championship save. Once that's done, buy the TYPE-IP car in MT mode. Do not buy any Tune Up until I say so.
MT mode is Manual driving. I know Manual cars seems daunting, but it's really not that bad here, and it is necessary for the mastery, as it increase our max Top Speed and we get better control over our car in specific situations.
As a rule of thumb, once you select to start a race, keep holding the A button from that selection menu. Once you see '2' appearing on the race countdown, release the A button. Don't try to pre-emptively release as soon as you see the '2'. The timing is not that strict, and it's actually more reliable to release half a second after the '2' appears (so double the average human reflex time). The engine gauge should get under the red threshold just as you get control over the car. Press Down multiple time to get to Speed 6, and A to accelerate. Once you are at Speed 6, you shouldn't have to bother with shifting gear for the rest of the race, unless you really mess up. If that happens and you get to a stop, shift gear back down to Speed 1 (press Up a couple time), and redo your gear shifting back to Speed 6.
There are moments where you might want to shift gear back down to 5, but that won't be necessary for a while, if at all really, so I will explain those cases when they come up.
Another tip: We can reset the race we're in freely. So if you don't think that you will be able to get the gold this time, reset before crossing the final lap finish line. We cannot redo a race after finishing it, so be careful.
Get first place in two races. This will allow you to buy the TYPE-LE car. This is necessary for the following achievement:
Deal'em And Wheel'em I (5) During Season 1, after the first race, buy a different car and win at least one race in 1st Place.
Get first place on the other two courses to unlock the above and below achievements.
Glass Champion I (2) In Championship Mode, complete Glassland-EASY in 1st Place.
Lakeside Champion I (2) In Championship Mode, complete Lakeside-EASY in 1st Place.
Forest Champion I (2) In Championship Mode, complete Forest-EASY in 1st Place.
Savannah Champion I (2) In Championship Mode, complete Savannah-EASY in 1st Place.
Season Pass I (1) Clear Season 1 in Championship Mode.
Reset the game! Or, alternatively, return to title screen. You will get a warning about losing progression. That is fine.
(If you are playing on the Japanese Rumble version, select "Yes".)
Now start a new Championship save. This time buy the TYPE-LE and finish first in the four first courses. SAVE! I highly recommend saving on the first slot.
We now should have 900 points to our name, which is exactly enough to buy the TYPE-P2. So do that, and finish the next four courses.
You don't need to be first, as we will reset, so just try to get third. Sometime you can just press A the whole time on Speed 6, and you'll still finish at least third, no turning necessary. Just to be safe, I went to at least third place, then didn't bother with turning for the rest of the course.
Note that we will run these four courses again with the TYPE-LE. If you are not confident in your ability, you could skip Deal'em And Wheel'em II, SAVE ON A NEW SLOT! (I recommend second slot), load up the first save you made, and then do Deal'em And Wheel'em II while striving for first place. The downside of doing it in this order is that:
- You will have to load back up your second save after finishing the fourth course, instead of simply continuing the game, which is a slight time loss.
- We will have less money in the end if we don't get every gold with the TYPE-LE. We need 1200 points before Season 4 (which we will have even if we get Bronze on all the courses), and then 1800 Points by Season 6. To get that amount, we can only afford 11 courses to be silver, or seven being bronze, with every other courses being gold. I highly recommend trying to get at least 2500 points by Season 6. More is better, since you will be able to make a little bit more mistake thereafter. If you don't, you will need to reload Season 7, with a lower class car, to get enough points for Season 8. This might be hard to do if you were not able to get the 2500 points in the first place, but you won't need to get high rank in every race.
Season Pass II (1) Clear Season 2 in Championship Mode.
Deal'em And Wheel'em II (5) During Season 2, immediately buy a newly-released car and finish the season with it.
Load up your save now (the one on the first slot if you followed my recommendation). We will be going for gold on all courses with the TYPE-LE.
It's pretty easy still, so it should be a breeze.
Mountain Champion I (2) In Championship Mode, complete Mountain-EASY in 1st Place.
City Champion I (2) In Championship Mode, complete City-EASY in 1st Place.
Glass Champion II (3) In Championship Mode, complete Glassland-NORMAL in 1st Place.
Lakeside Champion II (3) In Championship Mode, complete Lakeside-NORMAL in 1st Place.
SAVE ON A NEW SLOT! (Slot 2 recommended)
This season is basically the same as Season 2. Just do both batch of achievement, SAVING ON A NEW SLOT (slot 3) when we finish gold with the TYPE-LE. However, this time around doing this will be harder. I myself only got a silver on City-NORMAL, missing the gold by a hair strand. I recommend getting first place for the first batch of achievement, especially on City-NORMAL, to avoid missing an achievement.
Worst come to pass, simply reload your save and try again.
This time buy the TYPE-XA. Since we have 700 points leftover, Tune Up that bad boy.
Add one point of Topspeed for 400 points and one point of Acceleration for 300 points.
Deal'em And Wheel'em III (5) During Season 3, immediately buy a newly-released car and finish the season with it.
Season Pass III (2) Clear Season 3 in Championship Mode.
Reload the save, and it's TYPE-LE time.
Forest Champion II (3) In Championship Mode, complete Forest-NORMAL in 1st Place.
Savannah Champion II (3) In Championship Mode, complete Savannah-NORMAL in 1st Place.
Mountain Champion II (3) In Championship Mode, complete Mountain-NORMAL in 1st Place.
City Champion II (5) In Championship Mode, complete City-NORMAL in 1st Place.
DON'T FORGET TO SAVE ON A NEW SLOT!
We will now buy the TYPE-MG, which we'll use until Season 6.
Simply go for Gold in the next four courses. This will be a piece of cake.
Be sure that you haven't missed any achievement in Season 2, as we will need to overwrite that save.
Glass Champion III (5) In Championship Mode, complete Glassland-HARD in 1st Place.
Lakeside Champion III (5) In Championship Mode, complete Lakeside-HARD in 1st Place.
Forest Champion III (5) In Championship Mode, complete Forest-HARD in 1st Place.
Savannah Champion III (5) In Championship Mode, complete Savannah-HARD in 1st Place.
Season Pass IV (3) Clear Season 4 in Championship Mode.
Deal'em And Wheel'em IV (5) During Season 4, immediately buy a newly-released car and finish the season with it.
As always, SAVE! This time overwrite your first save.
Buy TYPE-CE, and do the same pattern as before. Tune Up that car (Six Topspeed (Cars won't go over 255 Km/H, so it's useless to put more) -> Max Acceleration -> Max Handling -> Max Braking), reload save, and get gold with TYPE-MG.
Deal'em And Wheel'em V (10) During Season 5, immediately buy a newly-released car and finish the season with it.
Mountain Champion III (5) In Championship Mode, complete Mountain-HARD in 1st Place.
City Champion III (5) In Championship Mode, complete City-HARD in 1st Place.
Glass Champion IV (5) In Championship Mode, complete Glassland-Mirror-EASY in 1st Place.
Lakeside Champion IV (5) In Championship Mode, complete Lakeside-Mirror-EASY in 1st Place.
Season Pass V (4) Clear Season 5 in Championship Mode.
All Ahead Gold (10) After Season 4 is finished, clear any Season with all 4 Gold Trophies.
SAVE!
Buy TYPE-LD, and beat up the season as usual.
Deal'em And Wheel'em VI (10) During Season 6, immediately buy a newly-released car and finish the season with it.
Reload your Season 6 save and get those golds.
Forest Champion IV (5) In Championship Mode, complete Forest-Mirror-EASY in 1st Place.
Savannah Champion IV (5) In Championship Mode, complete Savannah-Mirror-EASY in 1st Place.
Mountain Champion IV (5) In Championship Mode, complete Mountain-Mirror-EASY in 1st Place.
City Champion IV (5) In Championship Mode, complete City-Mirror-EASY in 1st Place.
Season Pass VI (5) Clear Season 6 in Championship Mode.
SAVE over your second save!
Buy TYPE-AP, and go for all gold! If you don't have enough points, you can try to buy a 500 points car to get some more points through the trade-in value of the TYPE-LD. If you still don't have enough points, you will have to go for gold with the TYPE-LD, and to the Deal'em And Wheel'em achievements later. (I made a section just before Part 1.5 for this scenario.)
If you are not using TYPE-AP, I highly recommend to do Lakeside last, upgrading Handling by one at the start, and upgrading it again before Lakeside.
That course is an icy slide, and you will often get off-course. You could shift gear back to 5 in difficult turns. Yup, this is the moment where Manual gear shifting truly shine. However, it doesn't really matter for this course, but you can train yourself for when it will matter.
What you want to do is shift to Speed 5 just before the curve, then increase to Speed 6 as you are taking the curve. This will plummet your speed to the maximum Speed 5 allows, making the curve easier to take, and then you will gain speed for when the curve end as you turn.
If you are using TYPE-AP, don't buy tune up unless you are certain that you can afford TYPE-MN after.
Glass Champion V (5) In Championship Mode, complete Glassland-Mirror-NORMAL in 1st Place.
Lakeside Champion V (5) In Championship Mode, complete Lakeside-Mirror-HARD in 1st Place.
Forest Champion V (5) In Championship Mode, complete Forest-Mirror-NORMAL in 1st Place.
Savannah Champion V (5) In Championship Mode, complete Savannah-Mirror-HARD in 1st Place.
Season Pass VII (5) Clear Season 7 in Championship Mode.
(If you were able to afford the TYPE-AP.)
Deal'em And Wheel'em VII (10) During Season 7, immediately buy the Type-AP and finish the season with it.
Save! Or don't. We won't come back to that save, unless you want to close the game. Saving is always good practice though, in case the emulator crash or something ;)
The Forest course is another icy slide, which you might want to get a handling upgrade for it.
I did not, and got first place relatively easily, but consider yourself warned.
Buy the TYPE-MN if you are able to (you can sell TYPE-AP by buying a 500 points car), and go get those last gold trophy, I believe in you!
Mountain Champion V (5) In Championship Mode, complete Mountain-Mirror-NORMAL in 1st Place.
City Champion V (5) In Championship Mode, complete City-Mirror-NORMAL in 1st Place.
Forest Champion VI (10) In Championship Mode, complete Forest-Mirror-HARD in 1st Place.
Glass Champion VI (10) In Championship Mode, complete Glassland-Mirror-HARD in 1st Place.
Season Pass VIII (5) Clear Season 8 in Championship Mode.
(If you were able to afford TYPE-MN.)
Deal'em And Wheel'em VIII (25) During Season 8, immediately buy the Type-MN and finish the season with it.
With the game beaten, and credit roll has passed, it is time to clean up for the mastery.
If you got 2500 points by Season 6, you can skip to Step 1.5: Speed Break!!.
Reload the Season 6 save.
Sweep up the season with the TYPE-MG. You need at least third place as usual. However, do keep in mind that we will need 2200 points for Season 7, and 2500 for Season 8. So we'll need to make some math to see how much points we need to get to 4700 points. Don't forget to add the 600 you get by trading in the TYPE-MG.
That brings us to another possible predicament. What if you were not able to get at least 2500 points for Season 8, even after your best effort?
You can try to sell TYPE-AP by buying a 500 points car and see if that gets you enough points. If not, that would means that you need to redo Season 7 with TYPE-MG after completing it with TYPE-AP.
I will warn you, forest is hard to do with TYPE-MG. I got silver on my first couple attempts. You absolutely need to get pass every single car as clean as possible. If they slow you down for more than a second, you are finished.
City can be pretty rough also. I got it at gold the first time, but had trouble the couple further attempts.
The other two courses are very easy in comparison, so start with Forest, then city and once you got the gold, you are set.
SAVE!
If we mess up something in this season, you can still go for the achievement and redo the season. We wouldn't even need to buy TYPE-AP, so we could buy TYPE-LD and have enough for the next season!
But first thing first, buy TYPE-AP and get that achievement.
Deal'em And Wheel'em VII (10) During Season 7, immediately buy the Type-AP and finish the season with it.
Finally, buy TYPE-MN, and reduce this championship to ashes. (You could also tune it up. I went with two Acceleration upgrades.)
Deal'em And Wheel'em VIII (25) During Season 8, immediately buy the Type-MN and finish the season with it.
You probably got this one as you played the championship. If not, you'll have to get it in the Time Trials.
It's pretty straightforward, simply get your speed gauge as close to the red threshold as possible without going past it when the race countdown reach 0.
Speed Break!! (3) Obtain or upgrade a car to boost-start a race in Championship Mode at 40mph(62kmh) or higher.
For the Time Trials, you will have to use the following Cheat Code on the Title Screen: Up, Down, Up, Down, Right, Left, A+B, Select.
Then go to Quick Arcade -> Time Attack, and select the track that you want to tackle.
I recommend going for Fine weather, as there's no reason not to, and select TYPE-MN on MT mode. (There's no tuning up available, so no TYPE-LD advantages. Very unfortunate.)
I don't have much to say about this one. If I have comment about any particular track, I will do so near the appropriate achievement.

Lake Trial VI (5) In Time Trial, clear Lakeside-Mirror-HARD with a time of 2:45.00 or less.
Forest Trial I time goal is very narrow. I got it by 8 centiseconds.
No special trick needed however, just go full speed while avoiding getting off-track.
Forest Trial I (5) In Time Trial, clear Forest-EASY with a time of 2:08.00 or less.
Forest Trial II (5) In Time Trial, clear Forest-NORMAL with a time of 2:35.00 or less.

Mountain Trial III (5) In Time Trial, clear Mountain-HARD with a time of 2:55.00 or less.
Mountain Trial IV (5) In Time Trial, clear Mountain-Mirror-EASY with a time of 2:43.00 or less.
Mountain Trial V (5) In Time Trial, clear Mountain-Mirror-NORMAL with a time of 2:58.00 or less.
City Trial I (5) In Time Trial, clear City-EASY with a time of 1:59.00 or less.
City Trial II is ruthless. You need to go directly to Speed 6 when you start the race. It is impossible otherwise.
City Trial II (5) In Time Trial, clear City-NORMAL with a time of 2:05.00 or less.
City Trial III (5) In Time Trial, clear City-HARD with a time of 2:12.00 or less.
City Trial IV (5) In Time Trial, clear City-Mirror-EASY with a time of 1:59.00 or less.
City Trial V (5) In Time Trial, clear City-Mirror-NORMAL with a time of 2:05.00 or less.

And that is it!
We mastered Top Gear Pocket 2!
