Introduction

Welcome to the RAGuide for Snatcher, for the Sega CD!
The game was written and designed by Hideo Kojima, initially released for the MSX and PC-8801 in 1988. The game supposedly was supposed to be much bigger in scope, but due to the amount of time and resources needed by his company, Konami, Kojima was forced to cut half of the game to make it possible to ship it. Despite getting poor sales, the game was very well received, due to its setting, direction, and the amount of interactivity it offered to the players. It went on to get remade as an RPG for the MSX2 in 1990, and to also get a number of remakes for different consoles, including the Sega CD version in 1994, which was used as a kind of introduction to the western playerbase.

A chemical weapon that was in the works in Russia, known as Lucifer-Alpha, was released in the atmosphere, resulting in the death of most of the population of Europe and Asia, effectively reducing the world population by half. The weapon made the area inhabitable, until years later it became suddenly non-lethal.
Many years later, at Neo Kobe City, Japan, unknown bioroids where discovered to kill humans and steal their indentity to replace them in society, appropriately called "Snatchers". Gillian Seed, an amnesiac with no memory of his past, except for his relationship with Jamie Seed, joins an anti-Snatcher task force, JUNKER (Japanese Undercover Neuro Kinetic Elimination Ranger), to discover more about his and Jamie's past, feeling that the Snatchers may have some connections with it.

Roadmap

Beat the game

As with any game, it is suggested to get some familiarity with them first, with a normal playthrough.
This is especially a strong suggestion in the case of Snatcher, with its great story, and many different dialogs that you can view through the different options or items that you can use.

Other & Missable Achievements

While playing the game, you may want to go after the other achievements. Most of these are about the different dialogs or interactions that you can discover in the game by selecting the appropriate option. Meanwhile other achievements will be about finishing a shooting segment without taking damage, not getting any questions wrong, or getting the highest score at the shooting range. For these ones, it is better to make a save before doing them, so you can retry how many times you may need.

General Rank

Sweet Smell of Success (50)
Complete Act III with the General rank

The General rank is the highest rank you can achieve at the end of the game. The ranking system itself is an evaluation of how efficient you were to go throughout the game, wether it is by solving questions, progressing through the story without wasting too much time, or shooting any enemies efficiently.

To increase your ranking, different actions are necessary to do so:

  • Answer all the questions correctly, and in the intended way by the game (don't call Napoleon before knowing his number, for example);
  • Finish all the shooting segments by taking the fewest amount of damage, and missing the fewest amount of shots;
  • When dying, do not select continue, or you'll be penalized. Reloading a prior save circumvents this penalty;
  • Do not do any interactions that are considered bad, creepy, or that make you look incompetent. Reload a prior save if it happens.
  • Do no use options that lead nowhere too much. You can get some achievements while going for the General rank, but if you're worried about it, you can make a save before doing them and reload that, to not waste too much time.

Other points that are worth mentioning:

  • The amount of saves has no impact in the ranking, letting you make any amount of saves you need to do specific achievements;
  • Time also has no impact in the ranking;
  • The shooting range itself has no weight in the ranking;
  • Events outside of the negative ones do not have any effect on the ranking.

However, doing all of this will only get you up to the Colonel rank when finishing the game. To increase it further to the General rank, you'll also need to do specific events that are missable if you go too far into the game. They are as follows:

This Town Ain't Big Enough (4)
Call the LoveLine until they go out of business.
What a Hack... (3)
Visit the Fortune Teller in Alton Plaza
A Sinking Feeling (3)
Try the Neo Kobe Pizza outside of Plato's Cavern
Two Hungry Four This (3)
Try the Ramen at Alton Plaza
This is No Trick. This is True Power! (5)
Visit the fortune teller again in Act 2

To make it easier to indicate which events are considered bad and which ones are not, achievements related to them will be marked with the following icons. It is suggested to always make a save before doing them, so you can reload it and not jeopardize your ranking possibly. Also, progression achievements won't have any icons, as that would be redundant.

Limited saves run

Saving the Day (25)
Complete the game with less than 3 saves

Essentially, you have to go through the game with just the saves that the game lets you make at the end of each act.
Because of this, it is better to go for this once finished with anything else. You won't have to worry about anything extra, while also knowing very well where to go and what option to choose to progress.
This can also be a good time to catch up with some achievements that you have skipped or missed, if there are any.

ACT 1: SNATCH

Sowing the Seeds (0)
Watch the entire intro

Enjoy the intro of the game in it's entirety, without skipping it.

A Random Topic (3)
Find out about Random Hajile from the Chief

When meeting the Chief for the first time, you'll be able to ASK him about many topics. If you pick ABOUT JUNKER AUTHORITY 3 times, you'll get ABOUT BOUNTY HUNTERS as an option. Choosing this, the name Random Hajile will be mentioned.

The Big Boss (2)
Use Jordan to look up Snatcher's creator

You can do this as early as asking Mika HOW TO USE in the Computer Room while she's showing you around H.Q..

While in the Computer Room, pick USE JORDAN. Write HIDEO or KOJIMA in the I.D. file search to find his file.

It's the Only Way to Be Sure! (5)
Shoot only the civilians and no snatchers without missing any shots while Mika looks on in horror

While Mika is showing you around Junker after meeting the Chief, you can go into the shooting range and choose PRACTICE. Instead of shooting Snatchers as you should, shoot all of the civilians instead, without missing a shot.

You won't be able to save just yet, so you have to reset your game, so to not continue the game with the penalty.

Snatcher Heart (5)
Get a perfect score without missing any shots at the shooting range while Mika is showing you around

This time, you have to shoot all of the Snatchers, without missing a shot. Of course, avoid shooting any civilians.

Sharpshooter (5)
Get a perfect score without missing any shots at the shooting range on the introductory difficulty

This can be earned together with Snatcher Heart, due to basically having the same requirement.

The introductory difficulty is the very first difficulty that Mika makes you practice when you ask her to use the shooting range. Once she lets you use the shooting range, just as written above, shoot all the Snatchers, without missing a shot, and without shooting any civilians.

For the rest of the achievements related to the shooting range, you'll have to wait for Act II.

From Junkie to Junker (3)
Obtain your Junker ID and Blaster

You'll get the Junker I.D. while being introduced to the Chief. You'll be able to get the Blaster from Henry in the ENgineer Room, but he'll show up there only after you've seen any of the other room in Junker H.Q. once.

Head of the Junkers (3)
Meet up with Gibson in the Abandoned Factory

While proceeding through the Abandoned Factory, you'll inevitably find him.

Does This Mean I'm Promoted? (4)
Abandoned Factory - Fully investigate the crime scene

You can miss this achievement if you try too many options that lead to nowhere.

Use the INVESTIGATE and the LOOK option on the crime scene in the Abandoned Factory until you've found every evidence. You'll also need to use LOOK and INVESTIGATE on the items you've found in order to keep them as evidence.

Debugging (5)
Abandoned Factory - Kill all the insectors without missing or taking damage

After trying to run away from the bomb, you'll be blocked by the Insectors. If you've tried out the shooting range, than you should be familiar enough with the shooting mechanics, and should not have too many problems here. If not, it's advised to get some familiarity with the shooting range, accessible after

A Floppy What? (4)
Junker HQ - Discover and investigate the floppy disk at Gibson's house

While investigating Gibson's desk, you'll find a FLOPPY DISK. Use the option LOOK and INVESTIGATE to analyze the disk and to keep it as an evidence.

Metal Gear Must Be Stopped (4)
Exhaust all options in your new apartment

You can miss this achievement when you exit the apartments after finding Jamie's phone number.

Whenever you come back from the Abandoned Factory, you'll have the option to move to Gillian's Apartment.
Normally you'll need to get here at least once in Act 1, to find Jamie's phone number by using the INVESTIGATE option on PHOTO and to give her a call. While here, exhaust every option you'll have in both rooms in Gillian's Apartment with INVESTIGATE and LOOK (3 times each should do it).

For the purpose of obtaining the General rank, it is suggested to make a save before entering the apartment for earning this achievement. After doing so, reload the save and just find the phone number.

Bugging the Girl of My Dreams (3)
Bug Jamie and learn about her dreams

Whenever you call Jamie in Act 1, you can find her either ready to go out, or in bed. If you find her in bed, use the option ASK, followed by DREAMS and NEGLIGEE.

Saving and reloading to find her in bed is suggested, so to not call her too many times, avoiding a penalty in the ranking.

She's as Green as They Come (2)
Have Mika eavesdrop on your phone call with Jamie

You can do this whenever you want in act 1. The earliest this can be done is right when you discover Jamie's number.

You just need to call Jamie when you're in front of Mika.

The Short Answer (5)
Give the correct password to Napoleon, AFTER taking the steps to obtain it

After investigating the Detective's Office, while talking to Mika about what you've found, she'll suggest to look for Napoleon. You'll need to look up for his videophone number, and the answer to his passwords as it is intended by the game for you to find them.

Solution
  • Find the videophone number. You'll find it by first using the LOOK option on HARRY, then select INVESTIGATE and BRANDY BOTTLE, to find the number "39-5644";
  • Look up "Napoleon" on the Jordan, to find the profile about the historical figure Napoleon, together with the answers to the passwords.
  • When calling Napoleon, in order to meet him, you'll have to answer one of his two passwords correctly: If he's saying "The 100-year", the answer is REIGN; if he's instead saying "The Revolution", the answer is IS ENDED.

Caution

If you either call him, or give him the right answers without finding them, Metal will comment about that, and call you suspicious. That would also mean a bad thing for the ranking.

Late Night Masquerade (5)
Discover the locations of Outer Heaven and Plato's Cavern

When meeting with Napoleon in Alton Plaza, by asking him questions and paying him, you'll find out about Outer Heaven's location. While for Plato's Cavern location, as he hints at, you can find their number on the big screen that you can see in Alton Plaza. When you see their ad, you should also see their number.

Solution

The number is 69-1170

Warning

You need to know about the ad of Plato's Cavern from Napoleon before calling them.

Chief the Thief (3)
Spot the Chief in Alton Plaza

Needs to be done after talking to Napoleon and discovering the two locations.

While in Alton Plaza, LOOK at the AREA until Jamie and the Chief are seen together. It may take a few tries to get it.

Another achievement is related to this. If you don't do this, and also call Jamie and TALK to her about her being in Alton Plaza (you have until end of chapter to do so), you won't be able to do the other.

A Seed Without Soil (4)
Try to pick up women in Alton Plaza until options are exhausted

While in Alton Plaza, use the option LOOK followed by AREA until Gillian wants to pick up women. This can take a number of tries to get it, so pay attention to the dialog box while doing this.
Eventually, a PICK UP WOMEN option will appear. Select this option 4 times to fully exhaust it.

Warning

While it is not sure if the event itself is penalizing, the amount of tries to get this might be, so it is advised to reload an earlier save, after doing this.

This Town Ain't Big Enough (4)
Call the LoveLine until they go out of business.

While in Alton Plaza, use LOOK and then NEARBY PEOPLE. You'll be handed a tissue with a videophone number for the Loveline, 55-6666. Call the given number 3 times to trigger a discussion about censorship.

What a Hack... (3)
Visit the Fortune Teller in Alton Plaza

While in Alton Plaza, use LOOK and NEARBY CROWD until Metal Gear sees the Fortune Teller. Then use both LOOK and INVESTIGATE on the option FORTUNE TELLER, to get the option GET FORTUNE TOLD, to start the cutscene with the Fortune Teller.

Trust Me, I'm a Junker (5)
Gain entry into Gibson's home without getting any questions wrong

When arriving at Gibson's House, use the LOOK and INVESTIGATE option with HOUSE. You'll then get the option to KNOCK, and after doing that you'll get the attention of Katrina. Use the option TALK, and she'll ask for an I.D. to confirm your identity. Do so by going through POSSESSIONS, SHOW, and then JUNKER I.D..
After seeing the I.D., she'll ask you some questions to further confirm you're a Junker. The answer for all of these questions can be found on Jordan, so make sure to take a look at both Gibson and Katrina's profiles in there.

Solution

About Gibson's Age, the answer is 55;
About Katrina's Mark, the answer is BIRTHMARK;
About the birthmark's shape, the answer is HEART-SHAPED (HEART is also accepted);
About the birthmark's location, the answer is INNER THIGH (THIGH is also accepted).

Caution

If you manage to respond to all of Katrina's questions, without ever looking at both Katrina and Gibson's profile on Jordan, the game will make a note of that. Needless to say that might be bad for your ranking.

How Far Can Too Far Go? (4)
Get forced to leave Gibson's house

This can be done right when you gain access to Gibson's House by answering all of Katrina's question correctly.

Use the option DO SOMETHING accompanied by PERSUADE for a few times, until she'll kick you out of the house.

Whistleblower (4)
Find out the reason Gibson was killed

While investigating the Study at Gibson's House, first choose LOOK and AROUND THE ROOM. You'll notice an old computer there, and you'll be able to pick LOOK and then COMPUTER to have a better look. If you've got the Disk in your possession, the one you'll find at the Detective's Room at Junker H.Q., you'll be able to use it by choosing POSSESSIONS, USE, and then DISK, to discover its content.

If You've Seen One Shopping Plaza, You’ve Seen the Mall (5)
Promise to take Katrina shopping

At Gibson's House in Act 1, when Katrina is still there, choose ASK followed by ABOUT KATRINA. Then, move into another place (like Alton Plaza, or Junker HQ), come back to Gibson's House and ask her again. Do this a few times until she asks Gillian to go shopping.

If you're going for the General rank, I suggest making a save before doing this.

A Sinking Feeling (3)
Try the Neo Kobe Pizza outside of Plato's Cavern

Outside of Plato's Cavern, choose the SMELL option. INVESTIGATE the FOOD STAND 2 times and SMELL again until you get the EAT NEO KOBE PIZZA option.

Ancient Relic (2)
Find an old videotape

While inside Plato's Cavern, pick INVESTIGATE and then INSIDE STORE for at least 6 times and you should find a VHS.

Operation Intrude N313 (5)
Obtain a mask and successfully infiltrate Outer Heaven

To get a mask, you need to locate Plato's Cavern, by calling to the videophone number you'll see on the big screen on Alton Plaza. Once you've reached the place, select MOVE, and ENTER STORE to get inside. Use then the option LOOK followed by WALL. After that, select LOOK, and MASK two times, so that by selecting BUY, you'll be able to choose MASK. Which mask you buy does not matter.
When outside of Outer Heaven, use one of the masks that you bought at Plato's Cavern by selecting POSSESSIONS, USE, and then MASK, to be allowed inside. When you've worn the mask you bought, you can select GO INSIDE.

Caution

If you decide to wear the mask while in Plato's Cavern instead, when you leave the store, you'll scare the people outside. This can be a negative to the ranking, so avoid using the mask anywhere else besides outside of Outer Heaven.

The Good Ol' Days (3)
Get more information on the group of Konami characters

While inside Outer Heaven, you'll notice some familiar faces. You can select LOOK, then CUSTOMERS, and you'll be able to identify each one of them.
I hope you know your Konami characters!

Gillian? What happened!? Gillian! GILLIAAAANN!! (3)
Get kicked out of Outer Heaven

While inside Outer Heaven, use the option SHOW followed by JUNKER I.D.. You'll be immediately kicked out of the place. You might need to go somewhere else before going back in again.

Caution

Needless to say, this act might be detrimental to your ranking.

Neo Kobe Decadence (5)
Get Isabella's phone number then celebrate with all the food and drinks you can handle

During the dancer's interrogation, you can ASK for her videophone number. After 6 times, she'll give it to you.
After getting the number, finish the questioning, and use the options ORDER FOOD or DRINKS, until the game doesn't let you order anymore.

Caution

Asking the number and ordering food and drinks might be taken as unprofessional for the game.

Food for Thought (5)
Receive a stiff reprimand from the chief for spending too much money

After doing what Neo Koba Decadence requires you to do, when you return to Junker H.Q., you'll be sent immediately to the Chief's office, to be reprimended for spending too much cash at Outer Heaven.

Caution

On top of what you did at Outer Heaven, this also will put extra weight on your ranking.

A Sketchy Suspect (5)
Complete the composite sketch and find two suspects

With the description of the suspect given by the dancer, you can go to Jordan in Junker H.Q. and choose the CREATE MONTAGE. Select each parts that correspond to the description, to determine the potential suspects

Solution

FACIAL SHAPE 3

NOSE 1
MOUTH 3
HAIR STYLE 2

Father's Day (4)
Reunite a father with his son

When outside of Ivan's Apartment, you can chooseABOUT BACKGROUND to talk to the freemen. Do this 4 times, you'll be given a videophone number, and to call it to help an old man among them.

I Gotta Hand it to You (10)
Shoot a gun out of someone's hand before they have a chance to shoot you

Right behind the door to Ivan's Apartment, the moment that it opens, ready immediately your gun and shoot in the middle.

Snatcher Don't Surf (5)
Finish investigating Ivan's Apartment

Once you've dealt with Ivan, choose any of the options with INTERROGATE, LOOK, and INVESTIGATE once. A cutscene will play, and you'll be in Ivan's Bathroom. Do the same here, selecting any options available once. This will conclude your investigation here.

Damaged Goods (5)
Take out your first Snatcher without missing or taking damage

The Snatcher will appear at two different points, the middle and the top. Keep your crosshair in the middle, and shoot immediately when the Snatcher appears. A couple of shots will take it down.

Some Random Guy (10)
Complete Act I

You'll earn this achievement after the last cutscene of the act, after Gillian is saved by the second Snatcher.

ACT 2: CURE

Gunslinger (10)
Get a perfect score without missing any shots at the shooting range on the intermediate difficulty

Just at the start of Act 2, you can go straight to the shooting range. If you've gotten a perfect score before on the Intruductory setting, Selecting PRACTICE will immedaitely give you access to the Intermediate difficulty. If not, you'll have to do a perfect score on Intruductory first.

Intermediate is a faster version of the introductory level, but it's still a manageable difficulty to beat.

The Neo Kobe Kid (50)
Get a perfect score without missing any shots at the shooting range on the highest difficulty

You need to get at least 3 perfect score with the Intermediate setting to get to the highest difficulty. Next time you choose PRACTICE, a dialog will start confirming the change in difficulty.

On the highest difficulty, some civilians will be Snatchers disguised. They can be recognized only within a short time frame where they show their green eyes. A good way to approach this is to pay attention to the red bar on the left. It keeps track of how many Snatchers appeared. You can have an idea if there is actually a Snatcher among the civilians, by watching if the bar increases as they appear.

Important

I highly suggest to save after you get this difficulty. This is because if you make a bad enough score, the game can actually decrease the difficulty, requiring you to do perfect scores in Intermediate again.

Two Hungry Four This (3)
Try the Ramen at Alton Plaza

While in Alton Plaza, just use LOOK followed by AREA, and a cutscene will start where Gillian finally eats something.

Her Snatch (3)
View a Startling Voice Message

When trying to call Jamie at the number you find in Act 1, you'll get a registered video that'll give you her work place number.

Caution

While you could just call Jamier at her work place, you're needed to call her with her personal number first, or that is seen as "cheating" by the game, and possibily penalizing your rank.

My Chief Concern (5)
Find out what Jamie was doing with the Chief

Requires to find Jamie with the Chief in Alton Plaza, and then asking her about it in Act 1.

When calling Jamie at her work place number, use the option TALK and then JAMIE IN ALTON PLAZA, to ask her again about why she was there. After that go to the chief in his office in Junker H.Q., you can use the option ASK and then JAMIE IN ALTON PLAZA, to get answers about this by him.

Tip

You do have to option to apologize to Jamie by using the same options with her, but it is not required, neither by the achievement or by the game's ranking.

Missing You Already (5)
Receive a distress call from Katrina and search the house

After investigating the OLEEN Hospital, but only after you've given a call to Jamie's new number at the least once, you should get a call from Mika, urging you to go to Gibson's House to help Katrina.

This is No Trick. This is True Power! (5)
Visit the fortune teller again in Act 2

While looking for Jamie in Alton Plaza, use the option SEARCH FOR KATRINA a few times until you find the Fortune Teller again. Then use GET FORTUNE TOLD to get a cutscene.

Warning

You will not find the Fortune Teller in Act 2 if you didn't find her in Act 1.

I've Seen Things You People Wouldn't Believe... (5)
See what should not be seen

After investigating Gibson's House because of the distress call by Mika, you have to option to go look for her at either ALTON PLAZA or GILLIAN'S APARTMENT.

God Save the Queen (5)
Finish the investigation at Queens Hospital

You'll get this after finishing investigating the third room in the hospital.

Table This Discussion (5)
Solve the patient record riddle

After finding out about the contents of the patient record, you'll have the option to INFER about the name of the patient.
To find the solution, you'll need to look up a periodic table, and use the symbols of the elements you're given to find the name.

Solution

The answer is BENSON.

Be = Beryllium N = Nitrogen S = Sulfur O = Oxygen N = Nitrogen

Privates Investigator (5)
Attempt to investigate Mika until she cracks

You'll miss this achievement if you get into the Turbocycle.

After solving the patient record, you'll move on to the JUNKER HQ. After arriving there, TALK to Mika about CONTENTS OF PATIENT RECORD. After the dialog, INVESTIGATE her a few times and she should snap.
This can be earned as soon as you talk to her about the patient record, but if you don't, you can try again after finding out about the hidden photo in the Chief's Office.

I Can't Drive 55 (4)
Experience some car trouble

After investigating the HQ, you'll need to get inside the Turbocycle. You'll then get in a segment where you'll be unable to stop it. Select any option that'll appear at least once and then some other time to make other options appear, until you get to the final option, HIT THE CONTROL PANEL. You'll then be saved by Random Hajile.

Impressive! (5)
Kill the snatcher in the hospital basement without missing or taking damage

While investigating the first room in the Hospital's basement, you'll find a Snatcher in there.
This shooting segment is actually in two parts. In the first part, shoot the Snatcher in its head. Then, during the cutscene, when Gillian moves out of the screen, immediately aim at the Snatcher and shoot it.

Under Reconstruction (5)
Finish investigating the hospital basement

Investigate the first two rooms at the Hospital's basement, by selecting any option in them once. Then, INVESTIGATE the SWITCHES. You'll get a new option in USE SWITCHES, 1 AND 2 AT THE SAME TIME. Choose this option, and you'll also be able to investigate the third room.

Random Act of Kindness (5)
Escape the hospital

You'll earn this at the end of the cutscene, after finding out about the identity of the Snatchers.

Pesticide (10)
Survive the insector swarm in Act II without taking damage

After escaping the Hospital, you'll navigate an abandoned air duct, where you'll encounter some Insectors.
Similiar to the achievement Debugging, only there will be more Insectors this time around.

A Taxing Ride (5)
Kill the Snatcher on your way back to HQ without taking damage

After finding your way out of the underground, you'll take a Taxi, only to find a Snatcher in there.
This is similiar to the achievement I Gotta Hand it to You. When the lifebar appears, immediately ready your weapon and shoot the head of the Snatcher.

Junkers' Honor (10)
Kill the snatcher at the end of Act II without missing, wasting ammo, or harming the hostage

After searching for every room in the HQ, you'll finally find the Snatcher in the Front room with the hostage.
The Snatcher will appear in different spots, but you'd want to shoot it only in those spots where you don't harm the hostage. If it appears behind the hostage, you should just hold your fire and let it damage you. For this shooting segment, you can't do much different than this.

Seeds of Doubt (10)
Complete Act II

You'll earn this achievement after the last cutscene of the act, after saving the hostage.

ACT 3: JUNK

A Trivial Pursuit (5)
Do not get any of Metal's questions wrong at the beginning of Act III

At the beginning of the Act, Metal Gear will ask you some questions to recapitulate about everything you've learned about the Snatchers.
Answer them all correctly.

Solution

About Snatcher's weak point, the anwser is ULTRAVIOLET RAYS;
About the method used by the Snatchers to avoid the ultraviolet rays and sunlight, the answer is UNDERPASS;
About the phenomenom connected to the appearance of the Snatchers, the answer is SNEEZE;
About the cause of said phenomenom, the answer is SNOW-9;
About the city connected to all three of the hidden picturse you found in your investigations, the answer is MOSCOW.

This is a Raid (10)
Act III - Survive the Super Insector battle

After you sent Metal Gear away to get help, you'll move to a room full of Super Insectors.
Unlike the normal Insectors, these ones are faster, will jump all over the place to avoid being hit, and also shoot much faster. Getting damaged here or missing a shoot may be almost unavoidable, but as long as you did all the other shooting segments perfectly, it is fine to get damaged or miss some shots.

Once Upon a Time in Neo Kobe (10)
Kill all the snatchers in the church without missing or taking damage

After the Super Insectors, you can move to the next room, where you'll find Snatchers protecting the last room.
Snatchers are more manageable than the Super Insectors, but this time we are back with doing a perfect shooting. To destroy them, you need to aim for their heads, but you'll also need to be as fast as possible, to not get shot back.

Heat of the Moment (5)
Act III - Kill the... oh.... shit....

After the Snatchers fight, you'll enter in a room with a dark silhouette. When you're able to, immediately shoot at it.

Caution

As it is not sure if this action may penalize you or not, it is suggested to do this after you've finished the game. Reload a save at the beginning of the chapter, and then go for this.

Deeply Seeded Convictions (25)
Complete Act III

You'll earn this achievement at the end of the last cutscene. This will appear after the rank assignment by Mika.

Saving the Day (25)
Complete the game with less than 3 saves

As written at the beginning, you are basically required to go through the game with 2 saves. These can be either the saves the game lets you make at the end of each chapter, or otherwise saves made anywhere else you choose.

Captain Obvious (10)
Complete Act III with the Captain rank or higher

See Sweet Smell of Success for more details.

Major Malfunction (25)
Complete Act III with the Major rank or higher

See Sweet Smell of Success for more details.

Colonel of Truth (25)
Complete Act III with the Colonel rank or higher

You will earn the rank of Colonel if you did not do any of the secondary events that are necessary for the General rank.

See Sweet Smell of Success for more details.

Sweet Smell of Success (50)
Complete Act III with the General rank

At the end of the game, where Gillian talks with Jamie, Mika, Katrina, after some dialogs, Mika will salute you, while announcing your new rank.

On top of anything written at the beginning of the guide, you may also want to use any other guides that will tell you what options exactly to use to progress through the story. Naturally, don't forget about the secondary events that are important.
As a further reminder, you may also go for other achievements while going for the General rank, as long as those achievements don't potentially ruin your rank, and you make some saves before doing any of these to nullify the risk.
