The key to combat in RAD is to fight dirty and hit the enemy when they're down or otherwise incapacitated. This can be when they are stunned and falling down, when they've fallen and are getting up, and when they've been launched into the air. Conversely, you want to block any attacks, especially those that will knock you down or launch you into the buildings behind you.
- Chop, straight punch, and uppercut will guarantee knockdown if they aren't blocked
- Hook and backhand will knock down some but all enemies if they aren't blocked
- Enemies that are falling can be attacked again to re-start their falling animation, although only Laguiole can attack fast enough to reliably do this
- Enemies that have fallen and are getting up cannot be launched or knocked down, which allows you to use powerful attacks that would usually launch the enemy far away from you
- Chop deals 66% the damage of the other two but keeps the enemy closest to you, which is invaluable for combo
- Hook and backhand take less time to execute than chop/straight/uppercut, and can re-start the fall animation if an enemy is already stunned/falling
- Blocking with two hands will reduce damage and prevent knockdown from some attacks, but prevents movement
- Blocking with one hands won't reduce damage but WILL prevent knockdown from some attacks, and can be used while walking
- Energy can be recovered by attacking enemies (amount recovered scales with damage dealt), or you can recover 5en by taking a step. Energy recovered from stepping happens when the step animation starts, so in normal mode you can repeatedly tap L1 or R1 to "quickly" gain energy while keeping your distance from enemies.
Some key locations provide awards if protected during missions, or have additional story impacts if destroyed.

- After episode 8, destroy Keiko’s apartment in Downtown Senjo until all 3 post-mission Keiko events are unlocked

- Do NOT talk to Nanao twice in ep 20

Curry Nanao's favor and avoid Ellen. Get familiar with controls and combat; avoid dealing city damage if you can to get awards, but it’s not too important. If you keep Nanao's workplace damage to a minimum you can get the Nanao dinner date post-mission event, but you can also get this during your 3rd playthrough. Get all Vavel upgrades, plus Pilot if you have the cash.

Through This Controller, I Can Feel Every Beat of Its Heart(5) | Complete an episode after defeating all enemies using normal controls. | |
![]() |
Keep Those Hands Up(5) | Complete an episode after blocking at least three attacks and taking no unblocked damage. | Easiest in earlier levels, take longer when winding up attacks, and rarely break guard. |
![]() |
Hit 'Em While They're Down(5) | As Vavel, hit a downed enemy three times before they get back up. | Enemies take longer to get back up if they fall forward, and larger enemies take longer to get up. A Laborer on his back will get back up in ~4 seconds, but a Harrier on his face can take ~6 seconds. Use normal controls so you can angle your torso down, walk behind the enemy and chop to knock them forward. As soon as they start getting up hit em with an uppercut followed by double hook (or multiple hooks). |
![]() |
Then You Have My Permission to Fall(5) | As Laguiole, hit a falling enemy three times before they hit the ground | Chopping an enemy makes them fall over, and chops/hooks/backhands will reset the falling animation. Easiest if the enemy isn't falling away from you, so try to get the enemy up against a sturdy building. Angle downward so your chops/hooks are more likely to connect, and chop-chop-hook-hook. |
![]() |
What Goes up Must Stay Down(5) | As Gllang, uppercut or straight punch a downed enemy three times without taking damage | Theoretically possible before ep8, but way easier after buying Gravity Zero. Get in close and attack with Gravity Zero. Move a bit closer while they're in the air, but DON'T attack them until they land or they'll go flying away from you. As soon as they start getting up, hit them with a straight/uppercut and then close in/crouch so you can pull off a second gravity zero after they're up, but before they can fight back. Either repeat this three times, or try to get in two uppercuts/straights after the second gravity zero. |
![]() |
With a Rebel Yell(5) | As Vavel, kill a Volgara with 1000 or more health using only "Genesis Cry" | Genesis Cry (<Genesis> <Charge> T) requires 100en to use and deals 1300 damage. Usually transforming costs 35en which can be difficult to recover without dealing too much damage to the enemy. In ep40 the enemy has 1000 health, takes no damage until you transform, and you transform for free, so as long as you built up 100en during the fight you should be able to take him out immediately. Alternatively, Asomdeus is a good choice as he can take 500 damage before dropping below 1000, which gives you plenty of buffer to charge up your energy. - A Trigger Indicator is displayed in mission if you have the upgrade and the enemy still has 1000+ health, and will disappear if the enemy health drops below 1000. |
![]() |
Wolverine Would Be Proud(5) | As Laguiole, kill a Volgara with 1000 or more health using only "Annihilator" | Annihilator (<Desecrator> <Charge> O) requires 100en to transform into Desecrator mode but deals 1999 damage and can one-shot any enemy in the game, including Asmodeus. Ep50 is a good choice for this, Banisher arrives ~7 minutes into the mission as long as you've dealt over 380 damage to the city, which gives you plenty of time to build up energy and tranform before arrives. - A Trigger Indicator is displayed in mission if you have the upgrade and the enemy still has 1000+ health, and will disappear if the enemy health drops below 1000. |
![]() |
Launch All Missiles!(5) | As Gllang, kill a Volgara with 600 or more health using only "Fire All Ordnance" | Fire All Ordnance (<Charge> T+O) requires 100en to use, and theoretically can deal up to 1626 damage, but many of your projectiles won't hit AND enemies can phantom away from it. Find a mission with a beefy enemy that doesn't use phantom, such as ep29, ep39, or ep51. Get your energy up with two or three uppercuts or step repeatedly to build up your energy. Get some distance between you and the volgara to make sure most of your missiles don't go wide. Fire the Rapid Cannon (O) to make sure your shot is lined up, then let 'em have it. - A Trigger Indicator is displayed in mission if you have the upgrade and the enemy still has 600+ health, and will disappear if the enemy health drops below 600 (and your last attack wasn't Fire All Ordnance) |
![]() |
Baby You're A Firework(5) | As Gllang, kill a Volgara with 1000 or more health using only "Iron Tusk" | Iron Tusk (<Sanctifier> b,i) deals 699 damage, but doesn't cost energy so you can use it twice in a row to take out pretty much any enemy, although you do need to get to 100 energy in order to transform. Either step repeatedly to build up your energy, or step and build energy with small hits. - A Trigger Indicator is displayed in mission if you have the upgrade and the enemy still has 1000+ health, and will disappear if the enemy health drops below 1000 (and your last attack wasn't Iron Tusk). |

🔗 Back to Top of Achievement Category
Most challenge achievements require completing missions while minimizing damage to the city, and can be completed in story or challenge mode. In missions where the enemy targets specific buildings and not the meganite (Controlling the Battlefield, Tower Defense) use weak ranged attacks to force the volgara to phantom away from the building.
Caution
In challenge mode you can skip the episode intro by using start+select to jump straight to the mission briefing. Be careful as during a mission start+select will also skip the rest of the mission, bringing you back to the mission select screen.
- Downtown Senjo: 190 dmg or less for the Construction Minister Award
- Senjo City Center: 190 dmg or less for the Construction Minister Award
- Senjo City Center 50 Billion yen missions: For ep 19b, 39, 47, 48 you only need to stay under 450 dmg
- Senjo Port: 50 dmg or less for the Senjo Peace Award
- Mt Chihaya: 60 dmg or less for the Senjo Peace Award

One Weird Hack to Double Your Income(5) | Complete episode 8 with the Construction Minister Award and all 4 other possible awards in story or challenge mode | After city hall, approach the hospital until Keiko announces that the JSDF need reinforcements, then ignore the hospital and return to the launch point. At around the 7:30 mark the Volgara should attack anyway. Launch and ride the meganite to the Volgara, and you should be able to arrive in time to save the hospital. |
![]() |
Fray in the Bay(5) | Complete episode 9 with the Senjo Peace Award and both other possible awards in story or challenge mode | You’ll launch around 4:45, around the time the volgara arrives at the west end of the bridge approaching the observation tower. You should be able to march through the walkway with only 40 city damage, and head off the volgara before it gets close to the tower. Just keep knocking him backwards, as there’s no city damage penalty for destroying the warehouses in the northwest side of the map. |
![]() |
Standing the Heat(5) | Complete episode 10 with the Construction Minister Award and the other possible award in story or challenge mode | Once you launch, approach the volgara and try to knock him south. Push him down the intersection if you can, but at the very least get him away from the train station and the expensive big buildings on the north side of town. Keep close to him, and don’t let him fire off the thermal cannon since it can deal a lot of damage to the city if it gets a lucky shot. |
![]() |
Ride the Cyclone(5) | Complete episode 11 with the Construction Minister Award and the other possible award in story or challenge mode | Volgara will deal a lot of damage to the city once it starts spinning, but will only start spinning after you deploy your meganite. Wait until he’s close to the launch point before deploying, or just bomb him to death. |
![]() |
He Came Outta Nowhere(5) | Complete episode 13 with the Construction Minister Award and all 4 other possible awards in story or challenge mode | After speaking with Ellen, volgara will teleport to you in ~15-30 seconds. Double back to the east and head for the small park a block and a half away on the south side of the street. The volgara should follow you until launch, at which point he’ll start attacking nearby buildings; just lead him away from the MHI plant buildings and you should be able to get your meganite over and fight him in the park area without too much collateral damage. |
![]() |
We Don't Need No Water(5) | Complete episode 14 with the Construction Minister Award and all 4 other possible awards in story or challenge mode | If you get close to the volgara, he should focus on you and not other buildings. |
![]() |
Catch a Riiiiiide(5) | Complete episode 15a with the Construction Minister Award and all 4 other possible awards in story or challenge mode | If left alone, the volgara will walk up to the Misaki plant and destroy it. You won’t be able to transform until your energy runs out, so head up to meet him and use the gaia cannon (circle). If it knocks him back, great; if he phantoms, reverse as fast as you can and you should be able to stay west of him. You should be able to either get him to phantom back to the launch point, or knock him east of the hospital. Once you’re out of energy, transform and keep the damage localized enough that you can stay under the damage limit. |
![]() |
Senjo Would Have Been Grateful(5) | Complete episode 15b or 18a with under ten billion yen in damage to the city in story or challenge mode | If you fly close enough to the Volgara, he’ll target you instead of the city. Kite him back towards the park where you start the mission, as you can fight there without causing city damage. The volgara WILL destroy some stuff just walking to the park, but you can speed up the process by shooting at him while he’s targeting you to have him phantom behind you. Note that if you shoot while he’s targeting the city, he’ll just phantom to more or less the same place as he started. |
![]() |
Childhood Protector(5) | Complete episode 16 with the Construction Minister Award and the other possible award in story or challenge mode | Harrier can easily take out nearby large buildings with his Tempest Spear, so the safest method is to kite him back to the buildings he already demolished, or follow him west and throw him north through the railway into the nearby field where you can safely fight him without damaging any further buildings. |
![]() |
You Want Misaki, You Go Through Me(5) | Complete episode 17 with the Construction Minister Award and all 4 other possible awards in story or challenge mode | You should be able to get your meganite to the volgara as he approaches the tower, but before he starts attacking it. Just keep his focus on you, and kite him to the intersection (or back up into the buildings behind you if you can spare the damage) to get some breathing room. |
![]() |
Hey, This Fight Is Rigged(5) | In episode 19a, activate Genesis Mode after reducing the centurion's health to 550 | You can deal damage to the volgara before transforming, but it stops taking damage after it gets down to half health. Take it halfway down before transforming, transform, then finish the fight. |
![]() |
Controlling the Battlefield(5) | Complete episode 19b with less than 50 billion damage to the city and all 4 building-specific awards in story or challenge mode | Volgara will do 40-60 dmg by launch, and will more or less beeline towards you after launch. Stay close to the launch point or at least away from award buildings. Keep him down as much as you can, block as he gets up because he likes to strike the second he’s up. First time he poses to use his rocket fist Wiltz WILL radio in to disrupt your block, so try to duck instead. |
![]() |
Double Jeopardy(5) | Complete episode 20 with the Construction Minister Award and the other possible award in story or challenge mode | The volgara will head south to the less populated area then west, only dealing about 7 damage to the city. Once you launch, take the main road south; as long as you can engage with the volgara without destroying buildings on your way, you should be fine. |
![]() |
Chicken Soup Run(5) | Complete episode 21 with the Construction Minister Award and the other possible award in story or challenge mode | Volgara will appear in the southwest of downtown in the residential district. Engage before it can head north to the larger buildings, and either fight it in a controlled area to minimize destruction or knock it to the south or west to an unpopulated area and fight there. |

Expertly Evacuated(5) | Complete episode 22 with the Construction Minister Award and the other possible award in story or challenge mode | Get behind him and lead him north away from the buildings, or try to fight him in the park north of the train station. Enemy won't phantom, so you can use projectiles freely. |

Wheels on the Bus Go Round and Round(5) | Complete episode 23 with the Construction Minister Award and all 4 other possible awards in story or challenge mode | Ignore the bus and head to the volgara. There’s a large park north of the hospital and a smaller park south of it, so kite/press the volgara to one of those and fight there. Gllang can use (circle) in fortress mode to knock the enemy backwards, which makes it easy to push him to the north intersection, at which point you just need a solid uppercut to get him into the park. |
![]() |
Assistance Not Required(5) | In episode 24, destroy a volgara before Valdor arrives | Valdor appears automatically if either Volgara drops below 300 health. Wait until a volgara hits 500 health and starts smoking, then use Vavel’s Lava Stream (charge and triangle) to finish it off. |
![]() |
Bye Bye Third Wheel(5) | Complete episode 25 with the Construction Minister Award and the other possible award in story or challenge mode | Volgara will target the pilot and ignore the meganite. You won’t actually take damage from the volgara, although you will fall down a lot. Just launch the meganite and get them to the fight without dragging the volgara into the city; Laguiole makes this trivial. |
![]() |
Satellite Scrapper(5) | Complete episode 26 with the Construction Minister Award and all 4 other possible awards in story or challenge mode | If you’re careful with your grenades, you can get to launch with 0 damage. The volgara will lazily make his way south, attacking maybe one building, then head toward Misaki HQ. Head him off at the intersection and try to keep the fight contained. |

Gllang Is Very Sick! Don't Be Mad!(5) | Complete episode 27 with the Construction Minister Award and the other possible award in story or challenge mode | You can take up to 8 shots with the Gaia Cannon (circle) for 75 damage a pop, but it’ll knock down the enemy onto any buildings behind them, and they may phantom behind you instead. If left alone, Volgara will deal 48 damage to the city before Souya shows up at around 2:45. If you’re in challenge mode he’ll upgrade your grenades from 10dmg to 20dmg, and the volgara will start targeting you instead of buildings. Just keep his focus, avoid his footsteps, and keep bombing. At 25 health you can only take 5 direct hits, indirect will knock you down but not hurt you. If he steps on you as you’re throwing, the stomp combined with your grenade CAN instantly KO you, so be careful. |

Jamming up the Jammers(5) | Complete episode 28 with the Construction Minister Award and the other possible award in story or challenge mode | You’ve got about 30 seconds after launch to get the meganite as far south as you can before you lose control, get to the southernmost central part of the map. Volgara will head west, cross the railroad south through the bridge, approach the launch point, then beeline to the meganite. Volgara should either follow your path of destruction or head down the center road, which should keep the damage under 100; if you went too far east, the volgara will just start trashing the train station instead of following the meganite. By the time you’ve destroyed all jammers, the volgara should be just catching up to the meganite, and you’ll have a clean area to fight in. |
![]() |
First Person View(5) | Complete episode 29 with the Construction Minister Award and all 4 other possible awards in story or challenge mode | Enemy won’t phantom, so you can head to the intersection south of them and unload ranged weapons and your L3 weapon, at which point the volgara should go down in a hit or two. |
![]() |
Keep on Truckin(5) | Complete episode 30 with the Construction Minister Award and the other possible award in story or challenge mode | You can ignore the jammer if you just stick close to your meganite. The volgara will head east towards the Otawara building, then south through the railroad, then toward the meganite. Head east and lead the volgara to the empty area on the edge of the map. The volgara does not use phantom, so if it starts attacking buildings just shoot it to draw aggro. |
![]() |
If Nanao Can Give 200% I Can Too(5) | Complete episode 31 with the Construction Minister Award and the other possible award in story or challenge mode | Launch and follow the Volgara up towards Otawara, then kite him back to the open area behind Otawara. As long as you can keep the volgara from heading west, you should be able to minimize damage enough to make the award. |
![]() |
I'll "Accidentally on Purpose" Next Time(5) | Complete episode 32 with the Construction Minister Award and the other possible award in story or challenge mode | Fight the volgara and keep the fight close to the supermarket. After the volgata starts smoking, it will phantom to the northeast side of the map in front of the Otawara Trading building. Get there fast before he starts tearing through the high-value buildings on that side of town, and knock him northeast to the vacant area. If the damage count is low enough you can go through the Otawara building to do this; it's 20 points of damage, but better than the fight moving west into the city area. |
![]() |
Almost A Fair Fight(5) | Complete episode 33 with the Senjo Peace Award in story or challenge mode | Head to the main road approaching the plant to intercept incoming volgara. Destroying power lines won’t impact damage, but towers are 20 each. |
![]() |
We Are Vavel(5) | Complete episode 38 with the Construction Minister Award and the other possible award in story or challenge mode | You'll start the episode in Genesis Mode, but with the volgara right in the middle of high-value buildings. Either use chops to keep it on the ground and take it out quickly, or knock it northwest into the park area. |
![]() |
Kaiju Kiting(5) | Complete episode 39 with less than 50 billion damage to the city and all 4 building-specific awards in story or challenge mode | Dantarion will follow you, but will get distracted if he hits a building. Head to the east side of the park and head south on the wide road, keep him in the middle away from the buildings. Once you get to the main east/west road, make a wide turn and kite Dantarion west towards the launch point. If you don’t pull him south far enough, he’ll either start attacking buildings when he turns, or he’ll end up destroying the Misaki plant buildings as he passes them. |

Just Follow the Script(5) | Complete episode 40 in under 9 minutes | Volgara is fully invincible until the meganite transforms. In order to trigger the Meganite’s transformation, specific events must happen. Try to keep the meganite, volgara and player close to the ruins of city hall, keep hitting the volgara during commentary sections to fill up your energy meter, and you should be able to transform by the 6:30 or 7:00 mark. If playing as Vavel, you have immediate access to Genesis Cry (charge+triangle) following transformation, which deals 1300 damage and instantly kills the volgara, but Laguiole can get to city hall fastest and can take out the Volgara in a few hits anyway. Events that lead up to transformation are:

Baron Beatdown(5) | Complete episode 41 with the Senjo Peace Award in story or challenge mode | After a grand charge, Baron usually attacks with a quick forward leaping knee or "Hell Dive", which is the same as Meteor Dive/Angelic Fall. This makes him very mobile, so you'll need to keep him away from breakable things, or keep him stunned/down. Note that the power line towers cost 20 each, so you can only lose 3 of them. The bridge area where you start consists of 4 pieces worth 20 each, so don't stick around the launch point and wait for him to come to you. |
![]() |
Bomberman(5) | Complete episode 42 without destroying any satellite machines | Although the volgara will use phantom for any attack from the meganite, it won’t dodge grenades. Laguiole or Gllang are much harder to hit in fortress mode, so you can use them to distract the volgara while you bomb him to death. Recommended to use Nova Grenades (20 dmg each) for this rather than Power Grenades (10 dmg) or Hand Grenades (5 dmg) |
![]() |
We Do NOT Interrupt This Broadcast(5) | Complete episode 43 with the Construction Minister Award and BNN award in story or challenge mode | Once you get control of the pilot, it takes the volgara 35 seconds to get to the tower, then about another another 15 seconds to destroy it with a rocket punch. After destroying the tower, it’ll turn around, walk around the port to the BNN building, then destroy that too. If you use ranged attacks, it’ll phantom to a random location and head straight for the tower/BNN building again. If you use melee attacks, it will ignore you and head toward its next target. You’ll need to intercept the volgara, knock it down, then keep knocking it down before it can walk away from you.The tower is a loss, but protect the bridge and the buildings on the southern side of the map. None of the buildings on the west side of the map count towards city damage, so it’s a pretty clean place to fight. |

Watch Your Step(5) | Complete episode 44 with the Construction Minister Award and all 4 other possible awards in story or challenge mode | Head east as quick as you can, and swerve north around the van into the small park. Once the van takes off, keep the vlogara’s attention and fight him in that area. No phantom, but ranged attacks are risky with the van in play. |
![]() |
Rooftop Rescue(5) | Complete episode 45 with the Construction Minister Award and the other possible award in story or challenge mode | The volgara will head west, north along a cross-street to the main road, then east towards Banhara’s apartment. Head west and cut them off before they get to the main road, and knock them south behind the wall of buildings. There should be an area they’ve already flattened where you can fight them and minimize damage. |
![]() |
Staying Above It All(5) | Complete episode 46 with the Construction Minister Award and the other possible award in story or challenge mode | The volgara will destroy the bridge and head north, but you can distract him with ranged attacks. Head towards him and shoot any time he stops targeting you. Block any attacks and either fight him in the intersection, or push him to the open field southeast. |
![]() |
Smoking the Competition(5) | Complete episode 47 with less than 50 billion damage to the city and all 4 building-specific awards in story or challenge mode | Toxinator will head west one block, destroy two buildings, head north two blocks, east two blocks, then destroy the hospital. Ranged attacks won’t really distract him, and if you put too much distance he can use Demonic Boomerang which will destroy a LOT of buildings. Best bet is to head to the intersection before he turns east and fight him there, minimizing damage as much as possible. |
![]() |
Rumble for the Cure(5) | Complete episode 48 with less than 50 billion damage to the city and all 4 building-specific awards in story or challenge mode | Head east to fight the volgara approaching the station, if you get there fast enough you should be able to fight him in the park and minimize damage. By the time he’s dead you should be at 100% energy, head around the corner to intercept the 2nd volgara around the EGG building and activate your 3 min ability to take it out pretty quickly. |
![]() |
Shipnapped(5) | Complete episode 49 with the Senjo Peace Award and both other possible awards in story or challenge mode | Volgara will approach the meganite, just stay away from the tower/bridges/BNN building and avoid ranged attacks. |
![]() |
Payback Time(5) | In episode 50, deal over 1000 damage to the volgara city before Banisher's arrival | Banisher will appear around 7 minutes into the mission if you’ve dealt more than 380 damage to the city, so you just need to destroy everything within that time limit. Note that if you fail to deal 380 damage by 9m15s, Banisher does not appear and the mission is failed. |
![]() |
Last Train out of Senjo(5) | Complete episode 51 with the Construction Minister Award and all 4 other possible awards in story or challenge mode | Intercept southwest of MHI building, keep fight contained to the intersection and keep him away from the MHI building/plants. |
![]() |
Overconfident(5) | In episode 52, activate your three minute ability before defeating any volgara and then complete the mission | Three minute ability doesn’t need to be activated before dealing damage, just before any volgara is defeated. Get the first two smoking, activate the ability, finish them off, then use grand charge abilities to quickly dispatch 3 and 4. |
![]() |
Quicker on the Draw(5) | In episode 53, disrupt Asmodeus's grand charge attacks three times by knocking him down or triggering his phantom system | Asmodeus’s grand charge, Ether Cannon and End Blaster can all be disrupted with a knockdown attack or if he teleports away. May be easier to do from afar, since he uses grand charge more often at range, and when fighting up close you’ll need to be able to tell if he’s starting a grand charge (which you should attack to disrupt) or a demon screw rush (his double backhand that you should absolutely block). |
