2) Introduction

This guide will take you through how to not only beat the game, but also how to master the set. Rise of the Dragon is a point-and-click adventure game on the Sega CD. The player takes control of William "Blade" Hunter, a cop turned private investigator. The mayor's daughter was found dead, with her body shriveled and disfigured. It's now your task to investigate exactly why and how this happened.

This achievement guide will explain how to get all 25 achievements in the set. This can be done primarily in one playthrough, while taking advantage of the game's save system to make sure nothing is missed. The majority of these achievements will be obtained during the walkthrough. A few will be saved to the end, all of which can be earned quickly from a new save file.

3) Walkthrough

Didn't Hear It from Me (5)
Get Chen's Address from The Jake

We have a bit to do in order to earn our first progression achievement. You start the game in Blade's apartment and there's a few items we must grab. First, grab Blade's clothes on the floor. To do this, use the C-Button while the cursor is over the item you want to pick up. After picking up the item, you can drop it in the bottom right corner where you'll see an icon of Blade. The item is now in your inventory. Do the same thing with Blade's coat that's hanging up. After grabbing these two items, you can enter the bathroom by moving your cursor over the door on the left side of the apartment and pressing C.

Once inside the bathroom, you can open up the cabinet and grab the first-aid kit and the APPD. The former isn't really necessary if you're going for all the achievements but it doesn't hurt to have. The latter is important for some achievements later in the game. After picking these up, you can leave the bathroom. Next you'll want to investigate the computer sitting on the right.

Turn the computer on by pressing the button above the left side of the keyboard. Next, click on the remote. This will open a menu. On this menu, click Play. After the video plays, you can click done on the remote. A picture will print out of the printer on the left side. Pick this up. Also click on the ID-Card reader above the right side of the keyboard. Grab the ID-Card. You are now almost ready the venture outside.

Before you leave, open your inventory by pressing the A-Button. From here, you can dress Blade by picking up the clothes and dropping them on Blade. Equip him with the clothes and coat. Now you can leave the apartment. Exit back out to the main room by moving the cursor to the right of the screen. Now you can leave by moving the cursor to the left side of the screen. Press the elevator button to go down. At the subway station, click the map in the back. This will open up a map of where you can travel to. First let's go to the Pleasure Dome.

Once you arrive, enter the dome. Talk to the guard and then enter the door. Enter the Bar by moving the cursor under the Bar sign. Talk to the man sitting all the way in the back facing you. You will start getting some dialogue options. Press them in this order:

  • I'm looking for the Jake
  • A friend of his is in trouble
  • Chandra Vincenzi
  • I'm afraid that Chandra Vincenz is dead

After the dialogue, your inventory will automatically open. Pick up the photograph then close your inventory. Click on the Jake while holding the photograph to show it to him. You'll follow him to a room. Now select this dialogue:

  • Who is Chen?
  • You think Chandra would want you covering this guy's ass?
  • I don't know, but someone does. Why don't you help me out?
  • What's this guy's name and address?

You now should have earned an achievement and we can have some fun with some people in the Pleasure Dome.

I Make People Feel Good (5)
While inside the Pleasure Dome, spray seven people with the APPD

After exiting the room with the Jake, equip the ADDP from your inventory. Spray the Jake, the bartender, the man with a beard, and the women sitting at the bar. Unequip the spray and exit the bar. Re-equip the spray and spray all 3 people sitting at the table. Unequip the spray and leave this room from the left side, then spray the man sitting at the table.

Clean Sweep (5)
Get everything from Chen's apartment without blowing up the door lock or safe and make it back to the transit station before the cops arrive

There's a few things we have to do before heading to Chen's apartment. Leave the Pleasure Dome and go to City Hall from the map in the subway. Talk to the woman on the right side. Choose the first option. Show her you ID card. Put the flowers and ID card in your inventory. Exit to the left. Enter City Hall. Try and enter the Records room. Talk to the receptionist, the dialogue doesn't matter here. Talk to Karyn, the girl in the middle. Choose the second or third option. Exit the inventory with the flowers and give them to her. Choose "I can't think of a better idea". Move the keys to your inventory and head back to the subway.

I would recommend saving here.

Open up the subway map and head to Chen's place. After the cutscene, enter the apartment. After you watch Chen die, click on the TV. Turn it on then hit play. Move the cursor over the slot and take Chen's ID. Exit here and enter the bathroom through the big door in the back. Grab the drug patch on the sink. Exit the bathroom and enter the bedroom to the left of the bathroom.

In here, click on the eye on the dragon. A safe will be revealed. Click on this. The combination is 0772. Pick up everything inside, then leave the apartment. Once you're back in the subway, the achievement should pop. Save the game again because we are going to do some optional things.

Cyberchunk 2077 (5)
Get a claim check after bribing the Pleasure Dome bouncer with a piece of chocolate

Now that your game is saved, go back to Blade's apartment. Open the door by pressing the red thing on the ceiling. After entering his apartment, click on the pillow and put the gun in your inventory. Exit the apartment and go back to the Pleasure Dome. The guard will now stop you. After the inventory opens, give the gun to the lady at the window. You have to place it in her hand. Talk to the guard again and when your inventory opens up again, pick up the chocolate bar. Give this to the guard and the achievement should pop.

Dirty Double Dumbass (2)
Get busted with Candi

Enter the Pleasure Dome and then enter the Bar. Talk to the women at the end of the bar. Choose this dialogue:

  • My name's Blade and I'm always looking for a good time.
  • Sure!

A funny game over screen will pop up and you'll get the achievement. Reload your save and let's get another game over.

I Require Nutrients! (1)
Use the drug patch on yourself

As the achievement describes, use the drug patch by selecting it in the inventory and putting it on yourself. You'll get another fun game over screen and another achievement.

Legend of Heroes (5)
Get all the items from Chang Li

Now we can progress. If it's close to 17:00 I would suggest doing the next section first then come back here. Go to City Hall. Instead of exiting left, exit right this time. Enter the alley way on the left. Enter the boarded up door. Talk to the man sitting here. Choose this for the dialogue:

  • What can I do to prepare for the coming conflict?
  • Check out this sample of calligraphy for me, will ya!

When the inventory opens up, pick up the paper from Chen's apartment. Give it to the man. He will give you four items. The achievement should pop after you put all of them in your inventory. If you want, you can also equip the bulletproof vest. To do this, you need to take off the coat, put on the vest, then put the coat back on.

Lay It On Me (5)
Have Karyn scan five items

Leave the alley way and make your way back to the records room. Make sure you get here before 17:00. If not, you'll have to wait until the next day. Talk to Karyn. Select the first option and then give her the drug patch. After the video, do the same thing, but this time give her Chen's ID. Press 1 to get Qwong's address then exit. Give Karyn the fortune cookie, rock, and tome as well to finish off the items and unlock the achievement.

Tapping Away (5)
Successfully wiretap Jonny Qwong's phoneline

We first need to backtrack to Blade's apartment. Once you're inside, click on the cabinet on the left side of the room. Use your key on the lock. Open up the now unlocked cabinet and take 4 explosives and wire tester. After getting these, go to Jonny Qwong's from the map.

I would recommend saving here.

After saving, try and enter the sewers through the manhole. After the dialogue, enter again. This section you'll have to do moderately quickly, but if you fail you'll just go back to where you last saved. Click on one of the cylinders on the left side. Place an explosive on the lock. After it explodes, open it up. Take the wire tester out of your inventory and place it on the right side. Pick up the red cable and place it where the red wire ends. Make sure it's the right end that is touching the end of the wire. Also, make sure that the dial on the top is in the green zone when you place it. Repeat this with the blue cable. The yellow one should go on one of the yellow wires on the right side. This one needs to be a little more precise. If you put it in the wring spot, a red light will flash. Take it off if this happens, just make sure the dial is in the green when you do so. After placing it successfully, you'll get the achievement. You'll get a message at your apartment. Go back there and listen to it.

Sabotage (5)
Engage in an act of sabotage at the warehouse

After listening to the tape, go to the warehouse area by exiting right after arriving at City Hall. Enter the warehouse. Investigate the middle area. Place an explosive on one of the panels and wait for it to explode. Achievement done.

Hi, I'm Blade (5)
Have a date with Karyn on the first day and be on time

I would save at this point in case something goes wrong.

It should be before 19:00. Go to Karyn's and wait there until 19:00. You can enter your inventory and skip an hour at a time by clicking the fast forward button. If you gave Karyn flowers, you'll go on a date with her and you should get the achievement. Afterwards, the next day will start.

Be Responsible (5)
Get the L.A.P.D. Armory Passcard from the mayor

Once the new day has started, go back to City Hall and visit Karyn in the records room. When talking to Karyn, pick the second response for everything. Pick up the tape and exit the room. Enter the mayor's office. Before you do, you'll be stopped. Answer:

  • I need the mayor. It's urgent.
  • Dammit Jenni! Tell him I want to see him! Now!!

Now you can enter. Talk to the Mayor and answer:

  • You should be nice to someone who has info that could cost you the next election.
  • I know your daughter's killer.
  • Select the tape from your inventory and give it to him.
  • No effin'way. I'm outta here.

You can now pick up the passcard and leave the area with another achievement.

On a Mission (4)
Obtain the assault rifle at the police HQ

Now enter the police headquarters. Talk to the police, then give him the passcard you just picked up. Enter the armory behind the guard. Grab the assault rifle and put it in your inventory.

Switchblade (5)
Mistake someone for Karyn

I would recommend saving here, and making a back up save on slot 2 as well in case anything goes wrong on the final day.

You don't really have much to do now until the final day, so go to your room and skip time. It is important to skip time in your room, because if you fall asleep on the street, you can get mugged and won't be able to progress. At some point, a cutscene will play with Karyn being kidnapped. This should happen at night. Skip until you fall asleep. When it's the next day, leave your apartment and go to City Hall. Go to the records room and try to talk to "Karyn". After you get the achievement, you can go back to your apartment.

Social Media (10)
View all Vidphone messages at Blade's apartment

Fast forward time until you fall asleep and you wake up on 8/4. Once you wake up, go to your computer. When you input your ID card into the computer, you should now have all 7 messages available. Watch all 7 to unlock the achievement.

Reservoir Dog (5)
Complete the shootout at the reservoir without getting shot

Leave your apartment and go to the Reservoir. Once there, equip your rifle. I would recommend saving your game here. Make sure you keep the back up in slot 2 in case anything goes wrong. Skip time until it's 20:00. At that time the shootout will begin. There's 5 guards total. You'll know you've been hit if you see a bullet hole in the bottom left corner. Reload the save if you ever get hit. Once you defeat all 5 with no damage, the achievement is yours.

Hero of the People (5)
Rescue The Jake at the warehouse on August 4th*

For this next part, you need to be a little quick. You need to get to the warehouse before 20:30. If you don't you can reload your save and just skip the reservoir battle. You can get to the warehouse by entering the hovercraft in front of you and then selecting the map from the middle console. The warehouse is to the right of City Hall. Once 20:15 hits, a side scroller area will start. You can jump, super jump by holding up and jump, and shoot. If you are wearing the bulletproof vest, you can tank most of the guards shots. The traps might be more damaging though. The gas you can simply crawl over. For the red lights, just make sure you're not in the area under the light when it turns on. You'll eventually reach a large pit that you can't jump over. The Snake will attack you. Just keep shooting his head and you will win. Take The Snake's ID card and leave the area.

Joy Juice (5)
Spray Deng Hwang's receptionist to gain access to the security room

Go back to City Hall and enter the hover craft. Fly to Deng Hwang's place.

I recommend to save here. I think you can outsmart and spray the receptionist on the same save, but for some reason my game softlocked and I'm not sure if it was related to that. It's probably safer just to save.

After saving, enter the elevator, spray the receptionist, earn your achievement, then reload.

Purdy Lil' Thang (5)
Convince Deng Hwang's receptionist to let you in (don't spray her)

Enter the elevator again. This time talk to the receptionist. Pick these dialogue options:

  • I can think of a half dozen ways, but right now I gotta re-thread the microspoolers in the security room.
  • I really wish you wouldn't do that.

You can now enter the security room and collect yet another achievement.

Dreams of Candi (5)
Save Los Angeles... minus Karyn

Now we are entering the finale. Investigate the computer on the right. Make sure all the 4 switches are facing down, except for the break lock which should be up. Try to press down the big security switch. Take The Snake's ID out of your inventory and put it into the slot to the right of the screen. Press the buttons as they light up. After the switch gets pressed, turn off the 100kV gate.

Exit the security room and go back to the lobby. This time go to the right of the receptionist. Enter the right door. Open both panels straight ahead. Flip the switch in the upper panel. Pick up the screwdriver near the sink and use it to open the lower panel. Take the wires. Leave the room.

It is important to save the game here since you need to get 2 different endings. I would recommend using the third slot in case something goes wrong here. First let's get the bad ending.

Enter the left room. You will find Karyn. Investigate near her neck and pull out any of the plugs. This will unfortunately kill her. After this, the final sequence will start, which is another side scroll section.

This time, there's fire traps that are impossible to pass. You need to high jump and shoot the red switch above them. The second fire trap can be crawled under, the the third will need a similar method to the first. Eventually you will come upon the final boss. If you have explosives on you, you can tank his hits and walk right up to him. When you're almost inside of him, you can hit the shoot button and place an explosive on him. Walk away and he will explode. Congratulations.... kind of. You just earned the bad ending. Let's go back to our previous save and try this again.

I Gotchu (10)
Rescue Karyn at Deng Hwang's

This time, before investigating Karyn's neck, first take the wire out of your inventory and place it on Karyn. Now you can safely remove the plugs and save Karyn!

Hooray for L.A. (25)
Save Los Angeles along with Karyn

Now you can repeat the last few steps from 2 sections ago to beat the game again, this time saving Karyn and earning the good ending. Congratulations, you are almost done. Let's just get a couple we missed now.

4) Miscellaneous Achievements

There's a few achievements for getting unique game over's that we have left to do. I saved these for the end since all 3 can be unlocked from the very beginning.

Birthday Suit (1)
Get arrested for indecent exposure

To unlock this one, simply start the game and leave your apartment before picking up your clothes.

Something to Piss About (1)
Take a wrong step to the bathroom

For this one, after putting on your clothes, exit right out of your apartment. Try to exit right again several times until you fall down.

Arizona Bay (1)
Let Deng Hwang carry out his master plan on August 3rd

To get this one, just start a new game, and fast forward time until it's 8/3. At some point during the day, this will trigger and you'll get a game over.
