Lost in Blue Scrapbook Entries - RetroAchievements/guides GitHub Wiki
SCRAPBOOK ENTRIES
I didn’t completely organize these by their entries as they exactly appear in the game. I’ve instead broken them down into categories so I can explain everything in a sensible manner. I’ve also made a video documenting the full Scrapbook if you would prefer a visual reference using the game’s ordering instead.
MATERIALS
These are items found throughout the island that are needed for building tools or doing other things. Skye also makes two types of materials in the cave.
Twig: found all over the place, which are needed for making some arrows and traps, as well as keeping the fire in the cave going
Wood Stick: you’d think this is the same as a Twig, but the game treats these as two separate items due to their functions. Wood Sticks cannot be used for the fire, but are made into some of the better tools like Large Trap, a bow, and a fishing rod
Tree Bark: only used for crafting the two types of fire makers. Grab one only when needed
Log: found sporadically within the Plains and Jungle, needed to build the Raft as well as upgrading furniture. Once all of these are done, you no longer need to collect Logs
Green Bamboo: found in the Plains’ secret cove area, and is one of the most important materials because it allows you to make the strongest variants of tools, as well as for Skye to craft into baskets. You will be able to put bamboo in a pile within the cave, saving up on storage space
Stone/Sharpened Stone: found throughout the beaches on the Plains, plus one spawns in the Volcanic Lake’s southern shore. You need three to build the first upgrade for the bed, while all others can be sharpened to make spears, fishing rods and arrows
Fur: acquired from hunting game like Boar, Deer, Goat and Rabbit. You only need three for making the best bed upgrade. Once that’s done, you no longer need fur taking up precious space
Lard: acquired from hunting the bigger game. This is used for making torches, and for Skye’s cooking
Large Bone/Sharpened Bone: give either Boar Meat, Deer Meat or Goat Meat to Skye for her to prepare into a meal, then there will be a chance for a bone to spawn around Keith’s bed. This isn’t 100% though, so make a Quick Save before asking Skye to cook. You also have to pick up the bone from the floor before ever leaving the cave, or else it will despawn. Always sharpen this since there’s no practical use for the Large Bone itself. It is stronger than Stone, so any tools made from bone will be more effective
Tree Vine: found in the Jungle, and is one of the most important materials overall, especially for making bows and fishing rods. Skye can turn this into rope, and is the third material that has its own dedicated pile in the cave
Rope: does not have an entry in the Scrapbook, nor does it take up space in your inventory. To check how much rope you’re carrying, go into the Backpack and press X for a secondary menu to come up showing miscellaneous items like rope and spices. This is one of the materials you have to ask Skye to make out of Tree Vine, and is needed for furniture upgrades and to build the Raft. Once those are done, you don’t need rope any longer
Feather: found either on the high plateau in the Plains, or from hunting a Chicken. This is only used as material for arrows, but it’s indispensable since feathers help improve your bow’s accuracy for hunting. Without feathers, your arrows will be flying all over the place, making hunting next to impossible
Basket: this is the other item you can ask Skye to make in the cave, with Green Bamboo as its material. Since the bamboo is so difficult to acquire, limit the number of baskets she builds. You need to make a Fish Trap and some Small Traps for Scrapbook entries, but baskets are not too important to worry about in the beginning
TOOLS
These are items that Keith can craft out of the aforementioned materials. All of these have variants depending on the combination of materials used, and have differing levels of strength and durability. In the case of arrows, their accuracy will also be affected. All of these tools will eventually break after prolonged use (or run out for arrows), so you need to make another one if you want to continue with the given task. As far as arrows go, keep any that have Feathers in them. Those without Feathers can be made for the Scrapbook entries, but dispose of them afterward. They are not worth the effort to struggle with their terrible accuracy.
Fire Maker: Twig + Tree Bark. Needed to start a fire in the cave, which starts a minigame where you need to alternate L1 and R1 until the meter reaches the center, then you need to use the NDS’ microphone to blow into
Fire Maker w/ Bow: Twig + Tree Bark + Bow 1 OR Bow 2. This version lets you hold the L1 and R1 buttons down before blowing into the microphone, which is much easier
Fishing Rod 1: Green Bamboo + Tree Vine + Sharpened Bone. The best type of fishing rod, which gets you Pro Fisher when made
Fishing Rod 2: Green Bamboo + Tree Vine + Sharpened Stone
Fishing Rod 3: Wood Stick + Tree Vine + Sharpened Bone
Fishing Rod 4: Wood Stick + Tree Vine + Sharpened Stone
Bow 1: Wood Stick + Tree Vine
Bow 2: Green Bamboo + Tree Vine. Making this will get you Pro Archer
Arrow 1: Green Bamboo + Sharpened Stone
Arrow 2: Green Bamboo + Sharpened Stone + Feather
Arrow 3: Green Bamboo + Sharpened Bone
Arrow 4: Green Bamboo + Sharpened Bone + Feather. This is the best type of arrow, and gets you Pro Fletcher when crafted. Use this when hunting a Lynx since you have to fell one in a single blow, and other arrow types are too weak for this
Arrow 5: Twig + Sharpened Stone
Arrow 6: Twig + Sharpened Stone + Feather. While Arrow 4 is the best type of arrow, this is the third best type behind Arrow 8 and is much more accessible since Stones are easier to acquire than Large Bones
Arrow 7: Twig + Sharpened Bone
Arrow 8: Twig + Sharpened Bone + Feather
Spear 1: Green Bamboo
Spear 2: Green Bamboo + Sharpened Stone
Spear 3: Green Bamboo + Sharpened Bone. This is the best type of spear, and will get you Pro Hunter
Spear 4: Wood Stick
Spear 5: Wood Stick + Sharpened Stone
Spear 6: Wood Stick + Sharpened Bone
Torch 1: Wood Stick + Lard
Torch 2: Green Bamboo + Lard. This is the better torch, which gets you A Better Light
Small Trap: Basket + Twig. Needed for catching small game in the Grasslands like Rat, Squirrel, Duck, Pigeon and Chicken
Large Trap: Wood Stick + Tree Vine. Needed for trapping large game like Boar, Deer and Goat before shooting at them with the bow and arrow
Fish Trap: Basket + Tree Vine. I found this to be next to useless for catching fish compared to the fishing rod, so just make one for the entry and dispose of it afterward
FURNITURE
These are furnishings that Keith can build if he has the requisite materials in his inventory. Build up his friendship value with Skye, and keep asking her how she’s doing at least once a day. She will eventually bring up topics about improving their living conditions. For the Raft, you need to discover both the Grasslands and the Jungle before Keith declares he’s explored where he can, and is forced to go across the lake to continue his adventure.
Bed: has three upgrades. Level 1 is 3 Stones; Level 2 is 2 Logs + 2 Ropes; and Level 3 is 2 Logs + 3 Furs. This is the only upgrade in the entire game that involves using Fur. The better your beds are, the more Stamina your characters will regain after sleeping
Table Set: has two upgrades. Level 1 is 1 Log + 2 Ropes; and Level 2 is 1 Log + 2 Ropes again. This allows Skye to craft ropes and baskets more efficiently, plus the duo will eat meals at the table instead of on the ground
Shelf: has three upgrades. Level 1 is 1 Log + 1 Rope; Level 2 is 1 Log + 2 Ropes; and Level 3 is 1 Log + 1 Rope. This is essential for increasing storage space, as well as for Skye’s survival during long excursions. Put some food on the shelves and tell Skye you will be “going out for a few days”, and this will set her AI to consume the food by herself
Jerky Shelf: needs 1 Log + 1 Rope to build. To trigger the conversation for this, have some fish and meat on the shelves, then ask Skye how she’s doing. She should eventually bring this topic up
Raft: has six upgrades, which require 12 Logs and 10 Ropes in total. Keith has to craft this at the Volcanic Lake’s southern shore, so you have to make multiple trips due to how much space Logs take up when you need some spots for food
MOLLUSKS & SEAWEED
One of the easiest type of food to find since both beaches are near the cave. These are incredibly important for Skye Mode due to her severely limited access to food.
Seaweed: found all over the place on the left beach
Freshwater Clam: found beneath a small mound of sand and playing a minigame where you need to brush aside sand with the stylus
Short-neck: same as Freshwater Clam
Clam: finding one of these is not as intuitive as you may think, and actually caused me some frustration. Instead of using the A button to check around Keith’s feet, you actually need to use the stylus. Then play the sand-brushing minigame, and hopefully you’ll find a Clam hiding beneath a random spot
Abalone: way to the west of the left beach is a series of reefs that Keith can climb on. Reach all the way to the last reef, and a single Abalone will be found there
Oyster: look around on the right beach
Scallop: you need to duck into the secret cove and find these on the beach there
CRABS
These can be found on either of the two beaches at the starting area. You need to tap the ground with your stylus to look at the area beneath your feet. Don’t use the A button for this.
Coconut Crab: these are very large and slow, making them the easiest of the three to catch
Hermit Crab: this has a cone-like shell on its back, and tends to spawn at the edge of the screen
Sand Crab: this is the smallest type of crab, and are very fast and hard to catch. Don’t be surprised if you fail to catch these a bunch of times – they are absurdly difficult to tap the stylus on, never mind drag them to the backpack
REPTILES
These guys are only found in the Jungle. Just like with crabs and the Clam, you need to use the stylus to examine the ground at Keith’s feet.
Land Tortoise: very large and slow, making them easy to catch
Lizard: not too difficult to catch, but aren’t as large as tortoises so you need to be precise with your stylus
Snake: very long and a bit tricky to touch with the stylus
SALTWATER FISH
These are fished up around the two beaches plus the secret cove’s beach in the Plains. Refer to their respective maps for visual guides on where to find these fish. I’ll just list their general locations for these and Freshwater Fish.
Mackerel: left beach, central area
Rock Bream: secret cove’s beach
Sillaginoid: found anywhere on any beach
Balloon Fish: left beach, right at reefs
Moray: right beach, far right
Sardine: found anywhere on any beach
Sting Fish: found anywhere on any beach
File Fish: apparently they can found anywhere. The best spot I found was the left beach way to the right where a Stone and Log appear
Flat Fish: right beach, central area
Sea Bream: right beach, far left area near lifeboat
Parrot Fish: right beach, central area
FRESHWATER FISH
These are fished up at the river in the Plains, as well as the far west river in the Grasslands. One of these is directly affected by what type of weather it is, and another by the time of day. Again, refer to the maps for specific fishing locations.
Sweet Fish: Plains, central river near small waterfall
Cat Fish: Grassland, near cave entrance
Black Bass: Plains, central river, just north of stepping stones
Arowana: Plains, waterfall in far north of river
Carp: Plains, central river, just north of stepping stones
Eel: Plains, immediately south of drinking water spot, nighttime only
Crucian: found everywhere in either river
Japanese Huchen: Grasslands, at waterfall in far northwest
Char: Grasslands, rainy weather only. This is the one to watch out for, as you want to hurry over to the Grasslands and get one or two due to how rarely rainy weather occurs in the game. If you intend to give Skye every type of freshwater fish for Lunch From the River, you need to wait for rain to get one of these guys
Salmon: Plains, southernmost area of the river before it opens up into the ocean
MAMMALS
Of anything in the game, these are going to be the absolute hardest to acquire. Hunting has been designed to be as user-unfriendly as humanly possible, so you’re going to be relying on Quick Saves a lot, as well as getting in plenty of practice and having an ungodly amount of patience. For using the bow and arrow, make the bamboo bow and craft the best possible arrows with Feathers that you can. Using arrows without Feathers is a complete waste of time and effort due to how horrifically inaccurate they are. Make the strongest arrows as well since at least one medium-sized animal needs to be defeated in one blow, and weaker arrows will not accomplish this.
All of these animals are found in the Grasslands, so at least you don’t have to do any significant amount of running around between regions. The time of day will affect which animals appear, so you will need to balance between spending a lot of time here and getting enough sleep for Keith. It is a pain in the ass to find these animals in the first place, and even harder to ensure you don’t scare them off before capturing or hunting them. For hunting smaller game, you also only have one shot to shoot them down, or else they’ll run off.
The most efficient method I used to spawn animals was to start at the cave, then explore just east. If nothing is there, return to the cave and explore directly north. If nothing appears, go back into the cave and return to the Grasslands to respawn the animals. Another frustrating aspect is that while spotting animals just north of Keith’s current location is fine, the camera angle doesn’t cover the other three directions very well. You could very well accidentally scare off an animal through no fault of your own because you’re not able to see them whatsoever.
As if this doesn’t have enough issues to deal with, you might think, “Oh, maybe I’ll harvest some vegetables while waiting for this stupid animal to walk into the large trap.” Don’t do it. This causes the animal to despawn, which means you’ve wasted a trap and your time looking for the animal, meaning you have to do it all over again. And even if you find an animal and plant a trap, you have no way of knowing what direction it will walk in. You might guess one spot, but then it wanders into a completely different direction. Wasted trap, wasted time.
If you’re thinking you can trap a wandering small-sized animal like a raccoon or a chicken into a Small Trap the same way you do with larger animals and Large Traps, sorry to say but that doesn’t work either. I experimented with this, and the little blighters just walk through the trap like it isn’t even there. You have to hunt them with the bow, and seeing the animal through the tall grass can get aggravating.
The whole thing is just horrible, and may take you several IRL days to figure it out. I wouldn’t be surprised if you wind up using save states to at least get some practice in. Sadly, it is what it is, so building up the skill is completely up to you. I fully relate with your pain, but just keep at it and it’ll eventually click.
Boar: large animal, nighttime. Requires to be caught in a Large Trap, then shot down
Deer: large animal, daytime. Catch in a Large Trap, then hunt it
Raccoon: medium animal, nighttime, must be hunted. Since there’s no medium-sized meat, the meat it produces is large-sized. These are very difficult to shoot down since they hide themselves behind the tall grass, meaning you need to spot even the slightest movement of pixels. I’m not sure if you need the best possible arrow like you do with lynxes
Rabbit: medium animal, daytime, must be hunted
Field Mouse: small animal, caught in a Small Trap either in the Grasslands or the Plains. While they are small, they’re fairly easy to catch since they don’t move very fast
Goat: large animal, daytime. Requires to be caught in a Large Trap. You then have the option to either domesticate it for milk, or just shoot it down for meat. Domesticate it once for Goat Herder, then hunt the rest. The domesticated goat will eventually die, and Skye will be upset. Tell her “It was her time” to keep your friendship value with her high
Lynx: medium animal, nighttime, must be hunted. It’s hard to tell a lynx apart from a raccoon in the darkness, plus you need the best possible arrows made with Green Bamboo + Sharpened Bone + Feathers to kill one in a single hit. I tried hunting lynxes with weaker arrows, but they kept escaping after being hit. Since there’s no way to trap a lynx, you absolutely need the best arrow for this
Squirrel: small animal, caught in a Small Trap in the Grasslands or the Plains. Squirrels move a bit faster than field mice, but not by much
BIRDS & EGG
Just like with mammals, birds are also found in the Grasslands using either Small Traps or shooting them down. All of these run around pretty quickly, which makes catching them pretty tough. All of them appear during the daytime.
Duck: capture in Small Trap, or hunt either in the Grasslands or the hot spring at the Volcanic Lake’s northern shore
Chicken: can be caught in Small Trap or hunted. Hunting them isn’t too hard, but you need to wait for them to fully stop moving before firing. The first chicken you acquire from a Small Trap can be domesticated for Skye so she can get eggs from it. It will die eventually though, so there’s not much point to this other than making Skye happy. Just do this once for Backyard Chicken, then hunt all others
Pigeon: capture in Small Trap or hunt. This is the hardest bird to capture with the trap since it moves around very quickly
Egg: while the domesticated chicken can produce eggs, Keith can’t have any of these in his inventory to add to the Scrapbook. Instead, take the shortcut from the Grasslands to the Plains, then roll a couple of logs to make footholds to a high-rise plateau in the central-north area that has Eggs and Feathers. If you’re looking for this entry in the game’s Scrapbook, it’s under the Etc. section.
JERKY
These show up in the Etc. category in the game’s Scrapbook menu. There are five types of jerky to make, which I mentioned in the Managing Skye section of the Gameplay Mechanics section. I’ll repeat them here just to cover my bases.
Smoked Meat 1: meat from large game like Boar, Deer and Goat
Smoked Meat 2: meat from small game like Rat, Squirrel and Chicken
Smoked Fish 1: large-sized fish like Arowana
Smoked Fish 2: medium-sized fish like Black Bass and Rock Bream
Smoked Fish 3: small-sized fish like Crucian and Sillaginoid
MUSHROOMS
There are eight colored varieties of mushrooms found in the Plains. The effects that each mushroom has on the characters are randomly generated at the start of a new game. Once Keith’s condition is healthy enough, consume each mushroom one at a time and wait to see if it has any effect. There are five effects to watch out for – poison, hunger, thirst, sleep, and infinite stamina. Poison is the most dangerous effect since it affects the character’s Health Gauge percentage. Thirst, hunger and sleep aren’t too bad, but only the sleep mushroom will have a practical use, which I’ll cover in the Story Mode walkthrough.
The infinite stamina mushroom is the most important one to discover. Consume it to have an endless amount of stamina for a limited amount of time. This is useful for long excursions that involve a lot of climbing and running around. Since there are five effects and eight mushrooms, that means the remaining three types are simply safe to eat and replenish 3% of hunger each. Since the effects are randomly decided, all I can do is tell you where the mushrooms are found.
For Mostly Edible, make a Quick Save before giving Skye all of the mushrooms, then reset. This allows you to avoid having her suffer the effects.
Black Mushroom: across river, in a cluster with three other mushroom types
Blue Mushroom: across river, rightmost cluster of mushrooms
Brown Mushroom: a little northwest from the cave entrance
Orange Mushroom: same spot as Brown Mushroom
Purple Mushroom: same spot as Blue Mushroom
Red Mushroom: same area as Black Mushroom
White Mushroom: same as Black and Red Mushrooms
Yellow Mushroom: same as Black, Red and White Mushrooms
FRUIT
Along with vegetables, fruit are very easy to find and fill your Hunger and Thirst meters, although they’re fairly spread out throughout the Plains, Grassland and Jungle. They’re crucial for survival in the early game, as well as in Skye Mode due to her only having access to Coconuts.
Coconut: found all over the place in the Plains
Raspberry: found in the northwestern plateau in the Plains, and a bit east of the entrance to the Grasslands
Papaya: has two spawn areas in the Jungle
Pineapple: found in the central-left area of the Jungle after hopping over some small platforms
Banana: climb over a log in the Jungle’s central area, then find some trees with bananas on the ground
Bread Fruit: found in the far southwest corner and on one of the small platforms in the Jungle
VEGETABLES
These are equally as valuable as fruit and mollusks for early game survival. Unlike with fruit, vegetables don’t replenish the Thirst meter. They are similar to fruit in that they are scattered throughout the Plains, Grassland and Jungle. Every vegetable except for Chives and Dandelions require playing a stylus minigame where you need to dig through some dirt to get the plant out. Get familiar with each vegetable’s shape so you can play the minigame more efficiently.
Chives: Grassland, in the lower area of the northern ruins along with Dandelions
Bamboo Shoot: Plains, in the secret cove’s bamboo field. This is the hardest vegetable to acquire due to the headache of accessing the secret cove. Along with the four bamboo, get at least one bamboo shoot to give to Skye for Nutritious!
Carrot: commonly found throughout the Plains and Grassland
Dandelion: Grassland, same area where Chives are found
Burdock: Grassland, northwestern area
Onion: Grassland, central area
Potato: found in both the Plains and Grassland. This is the largest tuber to dig up
Radish: Grassland, western area
Taro: Cross the swamp in the Jungle. The taro are found on the other side, along with some Ferns next to the nearby log
Fern: near the swamp, or in the northwestern area of the Jungle
RECIPES
These are acquired only in Skye Mode. The food used for these depends on how well Keith’s exploration goes each day. You will want to spend some time foraging the ground for spices since every recipe calls for things like Rock Salt, Purple Bean and such. These will be categorized according to the types of cooking you can do with the ingredients – Roast, Fry, Raw, Boil, Steam, and Stir-Fry. Raw and Roast are available at the beginning, while the others need to be unlocked as Keith discovers the Slate and Clay Pot during his exploration. Anything for Fry requires Lard to be used in conjunction with the food, while Steam and Boil require 1 L of water each time. Pepper and Chili Pepper are different spices. Pepper Seed refers to the black pepper, while Chili Pepper is the red pepper icon.

MISCELLANEOUS
These are items that don’t fall under any of the other categories. I’ve already explained Eggs and the five types of jerky, so this covers everything else not mentioned yet.
Bottle: dig this up in the western area of the left beach in the Plains. These will show up occasionally, and are handy for carrying drinking water around, as well as storing milk in Skye Mode
Bottled Water: simply drink at a spot with clean water with an empty bottle in your inventory, and it will be automatically filled up with water
Bottled Milk: exclusive to Skye Mode. Keith needs to domesticate a goat first, and you need an empty bottle in your inventory. Play the goat milking minigame successfully, and this will appear in your inventory
Drum: after a stormy day, investigate the same area of the beach where Bottles are found. A jerrycan should appear around the reefs at some point. Bring this back to the cave and it will be used for storing water. Fill it up with plenty of units of bottled water before going on a long adventure so Skye will have plenty to drink. It looks like it says 301 as the maximum capacity, but it actually reads as 30 l, or 30 liters
Slate: dig this up in the Grassland, within the lowered area where Chives and Dandelions are found. This is one of two utensils that help improve Skye’s cooking abilities. In Skye Mode, this unlocks Stir-Fry recipes
Clay Pot: the other utensil that Skye can use for cooking. Dig this up in the southern shore of the Volcanic Lake. In Skye Mode, this unlocks Boil, Fry and Steam recipes
Bracelet: if Skye’s friendship value is at max, she will eventually make this for Keith. Serves to boost Keith’s friendship value in Skye Mode
Lunch Box: exclusive to Skye Mode. Make one of these in the cave’s kitchen area so you can give these to Keith. They don't refill his Hunger meter, but do improve his hidden friendship value
Beautiful Stone: go to the Wasteland Maze and dig in the ground like you would for a Clam. This rarely appears, but apparently has a good chance of showing up near the entrance. It is a blue-colored stone, so it’s easy to spot against the grey dirt
Necklace: exclusive to Skye Mode. Gather 100 Beautiful Shells from the beach and she will make the bracelet out of them. Give it to Keith to boost his friendship value
SPICES & BAIT
These don’t have Scrapbook entries, nor do they take up any inventory space. To see how much you have of these plus liters of water and yards of rope, go into the Backpack menu and press X to bring up the sub-inventory menu. Once cooking is available, you can pick up spices by pressing A while out on the field. Spices aren’t too important for Story Mode, but are for Skye Mode since you’re choosing them manually. Once you craft your first fishing rod, the ability to dig up bait also becomes available. Rope can be acquired after Skye can make it out of Tree Vines.
The types of spices you can find are as follows:
- Rock Salt – found on beaches
- Chili Pepper (spicy) – this and the following are found on grassy terrain
- Pepper Seed (black pepper)
- Yellow Bud (soup stock)
- Tree Sap Drop (sweet)
- Brown Seed (buttery)
- Purple Bean (soy)
- Blue Seed (sour)
