Spoiler-Free Achievement Guide

This guide is designed to be a spoiler-free (at least, as spoiler-free as you can be if you read the achievement descriptions) guide to mastering the game on your first playthrough. This means a certain amount of clever saving to split your playthrough carefully. This guide will focus on three things:

  1. Where does each achievement take place?
  2. When should you save? (And since there are only three slots on the Wii version, where should you save?) How many points should you have on your current route at each save point?
  3. When there is more than one way to solve a puzzle, which one earns more points?

With these notes, it should be possible to master the game in only three playthroughs. The rest is up to you. If you need or want more help than this, this guide isn't meant for you. Just go read this walkthrough.

Introduction

Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis was developed by LucasArts and released in 1992. Built in the SCUMM engine, the engine that powered games such as Maniac Mansion (from which it gets its name), Monkey Island, LOOM, and other classic adventure games, Fate of Atlantis was one of the first to feature a novel branching system. Depending on your choices, the game plays entirely different, giving players a significant amount of control of their first playthrough and incredible replay value.

Getting Started

A few things you'll want to know before you start your playthroughs.

The game can be divided into three acts:

  1. Finding the Plato's Lost Dialogues
  2. Reaching the Lost City of Atlantis
  3. A Race to the Center of Atlantis

While the first and third acts are always the same (generally speaking), the middle act is entirely different depending on a single choice that you make when Sophia reads your fortune in your office in Barnett College. You'll be given three choices.

  • "You're right, I better think this through alone." (Wits Path)
  • "I'd rather tackle this together with you." (Team Path)
  • "I'd rather go into action by myself." (Fists Path)

Your choice here divides the game into three distinct paths that completely change Act 2.

The Sections

The ‼️ symbol means that these are mutually exclusive achievements. The one that earns more IQ will be noted with ✅, but you can always do all in one playthrough by saving/loading where applicable.

Ideally, your save slots should be used like this:

  • Save slot #1 should be used for right before choosing your Act 2 path, and should not be saved over
  • Save slot #2 should be used for each milestone on the guide below, once you've confirmed you have the right number of points
  • Save slot #3 should be used for progress within the section, or to help with exploring mutually exclusive solutions to puzzles

Intro

  • IQ = 2 [SAVE] when completing the intro credits and cutscene at Barnett College
  • IQ = 2 [SAVE] when reaching New York
  • IQ = 26 [SAVE] when reaching Iceland
  • IQ = 70 [SAVE] when returning to Barnett College
    • Score notes:
      • There are several places that the Lost Dialogue can be found at Barnett College, depending on which collection it is a part of. You can still, however, earn IQ for solving the puzzles associated with each of the locations. The tasks that need to be done to earn the max IQ are:
        • reach the top of the coal chute
        • get the book in the ceiling of the room above the coal chute
        • open the back of the fallen bookcase
        • reach the room two floors above the library (the room where the game started)
  • IQ = 90 [SAVE #1] before taking the Lost Dialogue to Sophia and setting your path
    • the following achievements can be earned at Barnett College:
    • Save notes: this save that you make here can be re-used for all three paths, so save to Slot #1 and don't overwrite after making this save.

🧠 Wits Path

"You're right, I better think this through alone."

  • IQ = 94 [SAVE #2] after choosing the Wits path
    • you can earn the following achievements before reaching the digsite:
    • Score notes:
      • You earn 5 IQ just for getting the red fez. To earn max IQ, you must get the fez, but not give it to the shopkeeper and choose the other solution to the puzzle.
      • Don't let the achievement fool you! Make a save (slot #3) before heading out into the desert and get to the digsite without bribing the patrols for the achievement, but go back; you earn 4 IQ for bribing a patrol. The red fez can be used for this.
  • IQ = 137 [SAVE #2] when arriving at the digsite
    • the following achievements can be earned at the digsite:
  • IQ = 159 [SAVE #2] before leaving the digsite and heading to Monte Carlo
    • the following achievements can be earned in Monte Carlo:
  • IQ = 185 [SAVE #2] after arriving at Thera
  • IQ = 238 [SAVE #2] after landing on the U-Boat
    • the following achievements can be earned on the U-Boat:
    • Score notes:
      • The alternative solution for the hungry soldier doesn't have an achievement, but eating the sandwich in front of him is worth more IQ.
  • IQ = 268 [SAVE #2] after entering the Labyrinth on Crete
  • IQ = 334 before using the tram to reach Atlantis

❤️ Team Path

"I'd rather tackle this together with you."

  • IQ = 94 [SAVE #2] after choosing the Team path
  • IQ = 167 [SAVE #2] when arriving at the digsite
    • you can earn the following achievements before leaving for Crete:
      • Deep Trouble (5)
        • Team Path: Find out what the Nazis didn't at the digsite, get Sophia out of the hole and find a way out
  • IQ = 190 [SAVE #2] when arriving on Crete
  • IQ = 286 [SAVE #2] before boarding the U-Boat
    • you can earn the following achievements on the U-Boat:
    • Score notes:
      • The only decision here is whether to fight the captain (worth 3 IQ) or to let the game fight him automatically (worth 1 IQ). Make sure you choose the dialogue "Are you a sub-captain or merely sub-human?" to fight the captain yourself (and win easily). Apparently you don't get the 3 IQ if you suckerpunch the captain, but I was never able to figure out how the suckerpunch worked on the Wii version.

👊 Fists Path

ONLY TRUST YOUR FISTS
POLICE WILL NEVER HELP YOU
- Streets of Rage 2

"I'd rather go into action by myself."

  • IQ = 94 [SAVE #2] after choosing the Fists path
    • you can earn the following achievements before reaching the digsite:
    • Score notes:
      • In most cases on this route, if there is an option to win that doesn't involve boxing, it is worth more IQ. When you get to Omar's house, find the option that doesn't involve alerting the Nazi for more IQ.
      • Don't let the achievement fool you! Make a save (slot #3) before heading out into the desert and get to the digsite without fighting any of the Nazis for the achievement, but go back; you earn 4 IQ for fighting any Nazi. Plus, it is very satisfying. It is only necessary to fight one, but feel free to fight more for recreation.
  • IQ = 117 [SAVE #2] when arriving at the digsite
  • IQ = 167 [SAVE #2] when landing on Crete
  • IQ = 221 [SAVE #2] after swinging across a gap in the catacombs
    • you can earn the following achievements before exiting the catacombs:
    • Score notes:
      • Okay, truth time: the achievement set isn't asking you to get max IQ. To get max IQ, you need to fight Arnold. Go ahead and try. I'll wait... You see? No good. So instead, we look for another way. It's worth 1 less IQ. Go send Wil a thank you note.
  • IQ = 295 [SAVE #2] after arriving on Thera
  • IQ = 323 [SAVE #2] after reaching Atlantis
