2) Introduction

Harvest Moon was released on Super Nintendo in 1996 by Pack-In-Video and published overseas by Natsume and was a very unique title for the system. Rather than focus on action or platforming like its peers, you played the role of a farmer living in a quiet town in the mountains. It pioneered the farming genre and introduced us to the coziness of taking care of crops and animals while managing your social skills, befriending villagers and possibly starting a family with one of them. The series would later find success with subsequent entries and is still ongoing to this day, also being the inspiration for the mega hit Stardew Valley.

But, like most pioneers, the gameplay was refined with sequels and, despite this game being incredibly fun, it has some outdated gameplay mechanics and rough edges that you'll have to bear in mind while going for the completion. There is no rucksack in this game so every crop and item has to be carried by hand to either your shipping box, your horse or your intended gift recipient. Anything added to your shipping bin after 5 PM will be forever lost and there's only 4 crops in the entire game, making two of the seasons very slow paced outside of animal care.

Unfortunately, one limitation also applies to the scoring system which is counter intuitive to playing this game naturally. While most farm games expect you to ship as many crops as possible and befriend all of their virtual denizens, due to a programming glitch you will lose points if you raise some of these values above a certain limit. In order to get the maximum ranch master score, you will have to play within these limits and focus on getting each bachelorette and crop shipped to a maximum of 511.

To get every achievement in the game, we will have to obtain every ending, marry every possible candidate and obtain a maximum rancher score of either 994 or 999, depending on which style of gameplay you wish to go for. For this guide, we will be going for the maximum score of 999 which will also help give some leeway if you're off by a couple points but keep in mind any score between 994 and 999 will unlock the Master Rancher achievement. To ensure we don't have to replay large chunks of the game, we will be making backups of the save files we create while playing this game. This will ensure everything goes smoothly for master rancher but also facilitate remarrying each of the available bachelorettes and getting each of their unique endings.

Ultimately, we will be playing through this game roughly 2 and handful times and this guide will give you a walkthrough for each playthrough. The first time will be playing through the game until Year 3 and getting the maximum ranch master score along with a bunch of miscellaneous achievements along the way. We will reload our appropriate backup save file in order to propose to the other four bachelorettes and get each of their exclusive endings as well as an exclusive bachelor ending that requires a certain affection from the bachelorettes. Then, we will reload our earliest backup in order to focus on getting 800+ happiness and get the Happy Bachelor ending, which will take a few seasons. Our final playthrough will be easy as we will sleep until we obtain the Complete Failure ending.

There are some great resources for this game available on the internet. Harvest Moon Paradise features a ton of useful information regarding liked gifts and values, event information and tool upgrades. You can also check out the amazing FAQ written by The_Admiral. However, most of the information will be contained in this walkthrough but they make great additional resources to keep open, especially when you're ready to get the bachelorettes to to the specific 511 value.

Breaking Down Ranch Master

Before we get into the game, we should break down exactly what is expected from getting Ranch Master score as that will be our primary focus during the first playthrough. There are two possible maximum scores: 994 and 999, both of which will get you the Ranch Master achievement despite the description showing only 994. Any value between these two will also unlock the achievement so if you go for 999 and your cow affection isn't maxed, you can still unlock the achievement with any score above 994. Which maximum score you go for depends on how you want to play this game. If you are going for 999, this is considered a maximum score run, which is the focus of this walkthrough. If you go for a score of 994, it's considered a maximum relationship run or a 100% run, in which all girls are at 999 affection. Unfortunately, the way this game calculates points means you can only get maximum score in blocks of 512 so you'll be just shy of the max score of 1009-1023, which is not possible due to the game's hard limit of 999 and you'll lose exactly one point for each bachelorette, hence the score of 994. You can choose to go for the maximum relationship run if you like but it will be slightly more work to get the bachelorettes to maximum, it will require more daily maintenance with your future wife and you will lose the 5 point wiggle room for cow affection if you're only interested in the Ranch Master achievement so bear that in mind. Below, you'll find a chart breaking down each part of maximum ranch master score.

Item Points Requirement
Money 78 99,840g
Cows 36 12 cows
Chickens 36 12 chickens
Power Berries 50 10 Power Berries Found
Crops 31 each 496-511 sold each
Cow Affection 300 25 points for each maxed out cow
Bachelorette Affection 31 each Each girl between 496-511 affection
House Upgrades 16 each Get both house upgrades
Clock 22 Upgrade your house before end of Summer
Turtle Shell 21 Win the egg festival Year 1 or Year 2
Marriage 32 Get married
Children 16 each 16 points for each child
Development Rate 50 Cover your entire field with grass
Happiness 31 Get 999 Happiness
Total 999 Maximum points possible

The big thing you'll have to focus on while going for master rancher is the bachelorettes and crops as they are the only scores which are bugged to have a maximum of 511. While the bachelorettes can be lowered by giving them weeds or poison mushrooms, crops must be within that 496-511 range due to how the game calculates it. Unfortunately, going over 511 will cause the game to reset your ranch master points for that particular crop back to 0 and will ruin your ranch master run. While playing this set, you MUST keep an eye on these numbers either through rich presence, recommended as it's live updating, or the ending code to ensure you don't go over 511 crops or affection points aside from the bachelorette you intend to marry. The rest of the numbers are safe to surpass and max out and we will be doing so during this walkthrough.

While on your farm, you can check your rich progress either on the site or using RASNES and enabling rich presence live monitor. If you are checking via your profile page on the site, make sure you pause the emulator for a few minutes and refresh the site to ensure you're seeing the most accurate numbers. The rich presence will appear under your main profile picture in the section entitled "Most Recently Played". If you are at the farm, it will say "Jack is at the farm" and you will see the following emoji:

🥬 0 🥔 0 🌽 0 🍅 0

These represent Turnips, Potatoes, Corn and Tomatoes in that order.

Similarly, Bachelorettes' affection can be checked by heading in town. The rich presence will update with "Jack is in town" with the following emoji:

⛪ 0 🧰 0 🌻 0 🐄 0 🌳 0

These represent Maria, Ann, Nina, Ellen and Eve in that order.

Happiness will be covered in a separate section.

For animals, cows are your main priority. They will need to be fed every single day or you will take a hit to both your happiness stat and your cow affection. If you forget to feed them, they will take a -15 hit to their affection rate which will take 4 days of brushing and talking to them to recover. If you continue to forget, they will get sick which will further decrease your happiness and if they die, you'll take a whopping -100 points to your happiness stat. Interestingly enough, the game only cares that you feed the cows. For chickens, once you have 12, you can safely ignore them for the rest of the game if you so choose. They will neither get sick nor will they drop your happiness stat if they are not fed, they will simply stop laying eggs for three days until they are fed again.

Development rate is how much of your field has grass, crops or fences on it. In order to max out that stat, you will have to cover your entire field with either of these three. It's highly recommended to use grass to increase your development rate but please be aware that there is no way to remove grass once planted so if you still require crops for master rancher, there is no way to plant them if you've planted grass there already outside of a hurricane or the transition from winter into spring which destroys random tiles. Crops can increase your score but no longer count once harvested or wilted after fall and fences have no positive purpose so they should be discarded immediately.

The rest of the conditions will be self explanatory and covered in the guide.

Bachelorettes

Within this game, there are five bachelorettes you can court and marry. For a perfect ranch master score, we will have to get all 5 to affection scores between 496-511 as shown in the ending and on rich presence. You will have to marry one of them and within a certain time frame in order to have both children. While you can theoretically wait until the end of Year 1, I recommend getting married by the end of summer, as you will have two anniversaries and be right on time to have both children in Year 2. Anniversaries allow you to get +30 happiness for EACH gift you give your wife that day which will hugely increase your happiness stat so having two will guarantee you can max it out if you're still not at maximum happiness by the end of Year 2. One thing to also keep in mind is that unlike other Harvest Moon games, villagers do not have affection scores, only bachelorettes so you shouldn't gift them anything outside of scripted events.

Like in most Harvest Moon games, you increase your relationships by talking with people and giving them gifts. While you can still do that in this game, it's much easier to take advantage of an exploit in the game's programming to quickly raise each bachelorette's affection. Every girl in the game will ask you various questions at specific times which change their affection score for the positive. Depending on the choice they give you, you will usually get either 8 points of affection or 2 depending on your answer though some vary. After this, they will temporarily stop asking you that particular question and change their dialogue. However, you can run into the nearest building and back out, talk to the bachelorette again until they repeat the question again and continue choosing the +8 dialogue option, allowing you to get the bonus over and over. Utilizing this strategy, you can get 80 affection points after just 10 times of doing this and you can do this enough times to get the girls in max range within a single day. Often times, you can max out multiple girls in a single day. Bear in mind that they cycle between asking the question and saying dialogue, such as Ellen comparing raising animals to being a mother, so if they're not asking the question that gives you affection points, keep talking to them until they do. If you want to supplement the question method to gain additional points, you can also take advantage of the fact that this game allows you to give the bachelorettes multiple gifts per day. Below is a table that will show you where each girl is, the season they ask the question, the question itself and the answer, along with affection points:

Girl Season Location Question Answers
Maria Spring Weekdays In front of the church Do you believe in God? Yes +8, No +2
Maria Fall Weekdays In front of the church Do you love kids? I love kids +8, Not really +2
Ellen Spring Weekdays In front of the livestock dealer Do you like animals? I love them+8, I don't like them +2
Ellen Fall Weekdays In front of the livestock dealer Do you like sweets? I love them +8, Not really +2
*Eve Spring Weekdays In the bar Do you want my homemade fruit juice? Yes +4, No thank you +8
*Eve Spring Weekdays (150-200 affection) In the bar Do you feel lonely? Sometimes +8, Not at all +2
*Eve Winter In the bar No question, just talk to her for a drink +2 every time you talk to her
Ann Summer Weekdays In the tool shop Please try it Hum +8, I don't want it +2
Ann Winter Weekdays In the tool shop Aren't I acting like a girl? No, not at all +8, Not that bad +2
Nina Summer Weekdays In front of the flower shop Do you like flowers? Yes +8, Not Really +2
Nina Winter Weekdays In front of the flower shop Do you believe there's a winter flower? Yes +8, You're kidding? +2

*Eve will stop asking you questions around 120 affection. Bring her a couple flowers from the mountain to get her affection high enough so she'll start asking questions again.

Once you get each girl to 200 affection or higher, you'll trigger their heart event unless you are married which gives you a +50 affection boost per girl. Someone will approach you on the ranch to inform you of the event, whether it's a carpenter or a villager. This will only happen on non festival days and when the weather is good. You're then tasked with helping the bachelorette with their problem. Make sure you take care of any chores for the day before you do the event as once you help the bachelorette, the day immediately ends. Below is a chart of the heart events.

Girl Event
Maria Her father will inform you that she has run away from home. She can be found in the carpenter's house in the mountains. She will stay there until you find her and she cannot be found after 5 PM.
Ellen She comes to the ranch to inform you she lost her bird P-Chan. Head to the mountains and check the fishing area to find P-Chan perched nearby.
Eve A carpenter will inform you that the old hunter is hurt in the caves in the mountains. Grab your hammer, head in the cave to find Eve and she will ask you to help her grandfather. Break the rocks further in and talk to the hunter to complete the heart event.
Ann Ann will come by the farm to inform you she lost her weather vane. Check in your chicken coop and you'll find it inside.
Nina Ann's father will come to the mountain and inform you Nina went to get an herb for her mother and never returned. Grab your hammer and head inside the cave. Break the rocks within and you'll find Nina inside.

Keep in mind that there is no relationship decay in this game so if you get a girl to 511 affection, so long as you don't interact with that person anymore, it will remain at that score forever. Also bear in mind while playing that the flower festival and harvest festival will increase the affection of the bachelorettes when you talk to them and dancing with them will give you a flat 30 points with that girl. For that reason, it's recommended that you only dance with the woman you intend to marry. Also, in Years 2 and 3, the only festivals you're required to go to are the egg festival, for the remaining prize, star night festival and new years so feel free to skip the rest of the festivals to protect your affection scores.

The affection score for gifts also change depending on when and where you give them to the bachelorettes and if you're married to them. For example, if you give Ann a mushroom, it will boost her relationship by 6 points if she's inside the tool shop. However, if she's at church or outside the tool shop, it will only boost it by 5 points. If you give it to her after you get married, she will not like it and you'll get 0 points.

If you go over the 511 affection point threshold, you can give weeds and poison mushrooms to the bachelorettes to correct this. Weeds will subtract 2 points each time, poison mushrooms will subtract 8, though for Nina it will only subtract 4 and will get you points if you're married to her so bear that in mind.

Marriage and Kids

Once you get 255 affection or above with a bachelorette and you complete the first house upgrade, the peddler will start selling the blue feather for 1000g on Sundays. You can use this item to propose to the bachelorette of your choice as long as their affection is above that threshold. However, for some odd reason, the women will not accept unless it's a specific day of the week and it's sunny outside and will tell you as much when you attempt to propose. For every girl except Nina, this must be on a Saturday. For Nina, it needs to be on Sunday. Once she accepts, you will immediately get married and the day will end so be sure to take care of the animals and the crops prior to proposing. Write down the date of your marriage as you can use your anniversary to boost your happiness later!

Once you're married, each woman will change their schedule and what gifts they like. In the mornings and evenings, they'll hang around inside your house. However, during the day, they'll go different places on the farm depending on who you married. For example, Ann will go in the tool shed to work on her inventions while Ellen will stand near the horse stable. They will head back in the house around 3 PM and fall asleep at 6 PM.

You will also gain and lose affection points depending on when you go to bed after you're married. If you go to bed when your wife is in the house, you'll gain +2 to your affection. This does not apply to Eve who will get -2 affection if you go to bed with her so keep that in mind if you want to marry her as you'll spend more time giving her gifts to keep her affection high. If you go to bed alone in the middle of the day while your wife is out of the house, you will get no points. If you instead wait till after 6 PM to go to bed, you will get -2 affection each time you enter the house, not when you go to bed. This is very useful for correcting your wife's affection points late in the game but is something to bear in mind as you'll have to give her gifts to correct it if you're attempting to have your first and second child.

Your wife can leave you if you're not careful and let her relationship score drop below 200 points which shouldn't be an issue if you're following this guide. This will give you -50 points to your happiness. When they move out, look for them in their original room. For example, check the back of the bar for Eve or the mayor's house for Maria. Talk to them and they will forgive you and return to the farm, netting you a happiness boost of 100 points.

Once you get the second house upgrade, have been married for at least 20 days and have 450 points of affection or higher, your wife will get pregnant and inform you if you talk to her. You do not have to talk to her for the pregnancy to count so if you do not talk to her every morning, the due date will likely be off from your calculations. From there, it will take 60 days for the child to be born. You'll know it's time because the priest will be blocking the doorway when you wake up and he'll mention you're going to be a father soon. Speak with your wife and she will offer to let you go work. If you say no, you will gain 50 affection points but you will not be able to feed your animals or take care of any crops. If you say yes, there will be no penalty so be sure to do so to take care of your chores unless you really need the affection boost. When you return, your child will be born and you'll have a chance to name them. The game keeps track of this birthday like your anniversary but the happiness boost is much smaller.

Your child will grow twice: once after 30 days in which your baby will start crawling and again after another 30 days in which they'll start walking and wearing a cow outfit. After 31 days have passed since the first birth and you have at least 650 affection points with your wife, she will get pregnant again. This will be your final child so after this announcement, you can safely lower your wife's affection back into the 496-511 range. You will need both children for a perfect ranch master score and to get both achievements. Keep in mind that you will get the ranch master points for the second child as well as the relevant ending as soon as your wife is pregnant with them.

Happiness

Happiness is a hidden stat that affects several of the endings you get. In order to get the best endings, this stat needs to be maxed out. By far, the easiest ways to affect this are your anniversary or seeing animals in the mountains. Below is a chart of things that affect your happiness:

Mountain rabbit event +50 to let it loose and pay, -10 for just watching

Anniversaries are the best way to max out your score while married. By the time your first anniversary rolls around, you will likely have 12 chickens. Give all of your eggs to your wife and you will get +360 happiness in a single day! If you are not married, visit the mountain in spring and winter every day it is not raining, snowing or a festival and look for the animals. The squirrel is near the entrance to the mountain behind the log near the carpenter's house. The fox spawns near the hot spring. If they do not show up, you can run to either the cave, mountain top or crossroads and try again to get it to spawn until it becomes night time and no longer spawns. You can see it once per day.

You can also breed cows for 70 points per cow but this is only recommended for the Happy Bachelor ending. If you do this, be sure to purchase the medicine and give it to your cow when you give it the miracle potion. This will make the pregnancy go from 21 days to just 2 days. If you breed the entire barn, you can get a whopping 770 happiness points, provided you can afford the 55,000g to purchase all the potions and medicine.

Endings

This game has a total of 20 different endings that you can get. A lot of them are mutually exclusive so keeping regular backups will ensure you get all of them. You also do not have to play the entire 2 and a half years to get the ending achievements. You can use a button combination to skip to the end of the game when going to bed. By holding L + R + Select + Start while the screen fades, when the screen reappears, you will see all of the endings you currently are eligible for as well as all of your stats, such as happiness, cow affection and ranch master score. It's recommended that you do this every so often to check your stats and ensure you're on track even with rich presence. Also bear in mind that if any of these keys are set up as a hotkey, the button combination won't work so be sure to remap your hotkeys to get this to work.

The achievement logic is also set up in a way that each ending achievement will only unlock near the end of the month and the beginning of the next month. I've found that going to bed starting the 28th will unlock the achievements all the way until roughly the 4th or 5th of the next month. If you're struggling to get the achievements to unlock, try using the ending code during this time frame and you should see the achievements pop. The development rate and ranch master achievements don't seem to be affected by this from my experience but the actual ending achievements do.

Below, you'll find all 20 endings and how to achieve them. Throughout the course of our walkthrough, we'll be achieving all of these.

Tool Upgrades

In Harvest Moon for the SNES, you find tool upgrades rather than upgrade them at the blacksmith like in later games. Also unlike future games in the series, once you get an upgraded tool, you can only use its upgraded ability rather than choosing which level you want to use. This increases the stamina usage but most of the time, it's a good thing.

Each of the upgraded tools come from a random event on your farm aside from the sprinkler. Once you pass them, the tool will become available the next day. If you fail the event, the upgraded tool becomes purchasable at the tool shop. However, if you want to get them for free and get all the achievements, you'll have to respond accordingly. You will also have to pick up the golden tool in order for the achievements to unlock.

Tool How to unlock Upgrade
Golden Sickle During Summer, you'll hear a loud noise on a random day. The carpenter will come by to tell you to look around your farm and see if anything happened. Check the bottom right of your farm to see a tree has exploded and you can now enter it. Once inside, a harvest sprite will ask you if you use your sickle often. Tell him you do and he will explain he made it and will make it better for you. Cuts a 3 by 3 square around you in one use.
Sprinkler After Summer 20th, you can purchase this upgrade at the shop for 2000g Waters a 3 by 3 square around you.
Golden Hoe During Fall, keep an eye out for an injured Harvest Sprite at the front of your farm. Go to the mountains and pick a regular mushroom to give to him. He'll explain he hadn't eaten in three days and upgrades your hoe for you as thanks. This can happen randomly in Year 1 or 2. Tills 6 squares in front of you.
Golden Axe During Winter, you'll hear a rumbling on a random day. The carpenter will tell you about it and let you know to explore. Head to the mountain with your axe and just above the entrance you'll notice the rock blocking the way is gone. Go to the new area and hit the frozen pond with your axe. The Harvest Goddess will appear and ask if you dropped a Golden Axe. Tell her no and she will give it to you immediately. Chops stumps in 1 hit
Golden Hammer During a random sunny day in Winter, a carpenter will ask to borrow your hammer. Let him and when he returns it the next day, it will be golden. Breaks large rocks in 1 hit

Power Berries & Stamina

When you begin the game, you start with 100 stamina. Each normal tool use uses 2 stamina each time, including refilling the watering can and throwing seeds to plant them. However, you can increase your stamina by finding power berries. Each power berry increases your max stamina by 10 points and there are ten of them in the game. Below are where to find each of them as listed in the walkthrough:

Number Earliest Found How to Find
1 Spring 2 Catch a fish in the mountains and throw it back in the lake. A kappa will appear and give you a power berry.
2 Spring 2 In the crossroads area, break the chicken statue to find a power berry. This is finicky so if it doesn't give it to you, leave and come back to try again.
3 Spring 2 Take your axe to the mountain side and chop the stumps. One of them will randomly drop a power berry.
4 Spring 2 Use your hoe to till the farm. A power berry will appear at random.
5 Spring 3 Use your hoe to till the farm. A power berry will appear at random. Will not appear the same night you find previous power berry.
6 Fall 1 Talk to the livestock dealer in town and sell a chicken. Instead of the livestock dealer, the hawker will show up and offer to trade a power berry for your chicken.
7 Fall 12 The Harvest Festival will happen on this date. If you bring a fish or the Fullmoon Berry found on the top of the mountain, when you get your food it will be a power berry.
8 Fall 20 The Egg Hunt will happen on this date. If you win, you will either get a power berry or the turtle shell. If you do not get this on Year 1, you will get it on Year 2.
9 Winter 1 If you purchased the Snow Gem from the Flower Festival, you can plant it on the mountain summit during winter. Plant it on the rock near the summit. A fairy will appear and thank you with a power berry.
10 Winter At some point in winter, you will hear a sound and a carpenter will let you know of an earthquake. Head to the mountains and you'll notice the rock blocking the path immediately above the entrance is gone. This is the same area as the golden axe upgrade. Use your axe to chop down the stump and it will reveal a hole. Fall down the hole and you will land next to the final power berry.

Misc Tips

  • Take advantage of the infinite nights to do your chores. All of your planting, watering, grass cutting, wood chopping and field clearing should be done exclusively at night even when you're married. The exceptions to this are harvesting grown crops to sell and animals since time freezes in buildings. The -2 affection with your wife can easily be rectified with a gift, whether that's a flower from the mountain or a wild grape or even an egg. Once your animals are taken care of, grown crops become the priority.

  • Use the day time to fish in Spring, Summer and Fall as well as harvest forageables and take care of purchases. Fish are worth a whopping 300g each and you can catch 2 of them a day before the shipper comes if you're lucky. Use the day time to also increase your relationships with each of the bachelorettes but save any non harvesting work until after nightfall.

  • You can restore your stamina at the hot springs in the mountains. Unlike other games, it's best to jump in and out as each jump restores 20 stamina. You can also tell how much stamina your character has by his animations after using tools. If he wipes his brow, you have 50% left. If he slumps over and breathes heavy, you're at 25%. If he falls down, you're at 10%. When he closes his eyes and collapses, you're out of stamina. Unlike future games, this means you cannot work until you restore your stamina, either from the food you eat at noon, edible forageables the hot springs.

  • Save any grown crops for the next day if you can't harvest them by 5 PM. Anything thrown in the shipping bin after the shipper comes is lost but grown crops will remain grown the next day unless it's Fall, in which case they will wither.

  • If you want to get some extra cash going into Summer or work on the spring crops more, you can plant spring crops on Spring 30th and they will continue to grow into Summer until they can be harvested.

  • Unless you're going for the Happy Bachelor ending, never buy more than one chicken and never breed cows. When a cow becomes pregnant, it will take either 21 days or a medicine to give birth during which time you cannot milk the cow. If you use the medicine, the baby will effectively cost the same as buying a new cow. When the calf is born, it will take 14 days to become a child and an additional 21 days to grow into an adult. When you buy a cow from the livestock dealer, it will already be a child. The only real benefits are that you get a +70 to your happiness bonus, the main way we will farm happiness as a bachelor, and the pregnant cow gets +10 affection points. However, we will easily farm happiness points when married and the affection boost for the cow can be easily obtained with 2 and a half days of brushing and talking, which isn't worth the 14 additional days we will have to wait to start milking it.

  • You can clear tilled tiles by using a small rock or lumber. This is especially useful once you get the golden hoe to arrange your crops in optimal formations.

  • You cannot walk over grown crops so the ideal pattern to plant them is in a horseshoe pattern. To maximize your stamina, plant crops in 3x3 squares but remove the middle square from the top row. This will make a U shape with eight squares for crops. From there, you'll want to till the group directly below it and leave a row empty between the two squares. However, for the bottom group of crops, remove the square from the middle of the bottom row instead of the top. This will be the same shape but upside down. This will optimize your watering, especially once you get the sprinkler. While standing in the hole of the top group, we can water the 5 crops surrounding us. We can then move to the row between the two crop groups and water the 6 crops in both bottom rows. We can then finish watering the remaining 5 crops by standing in the gap of the bottom group, watering all 16 squares in just three uses of the sprinkler. Plant additional seed groups using this blueprint of two groups and you can maximize your tool usage and water large numbers of crops in minutes.

  • Make regular save backups. Save location varies by your emulator but the game will be named something along the lines of Harvest Moon (USA).srm or whatever the title of your game is. I made a folder tree with years, seasons and days along with notes of anything pertinent that happened. For example, Summer 25 Married Ann, Fall 4th 2nd house upgrade done. This will make it easy to restore specific backups later, especially if you realize you missed something. You will want to back up as frequently as you're comfortable with but it should be daily in Summer to prevent hurricanes.

  • When shipping, you do not receive your money until the next morning, even after the shipper picks it up.

  • Do not put your animals outside! Unlike future games which track this, there is no benefit to putting your animals outside as it makes your farm lag like crazy, you'll have to gather them back inside at night and they gain no affection points or additional happiness from being outside. In fact, your cows risk getting sick which hurts your happiness and your chickens can die if you have broken fences on the property, which you shouldn't, so leave them inside where they're safe and happy.

  • Rain only waters crops in the morning! As random as it sounds, if you plant crops or harvest regrowing crops during the rain, you will have to water them despite the rain.

3) Ranch Master Walkthrough

Spring 1

When you fire up your game, you'll head to town and you won't be allowed to leave until you talk to every single NPC in town, which includes the shop keepers. Make sure you talk to them behind the counter as well to get some advice and free stuff. You'll have to go into all the buildings that are open as well as there are a lot of NPCs that are inside the buildings, such as Nina, Maria, the mayor and his wife, the fortune teller, etc. Once you've talked to all the NPCs, talk to the shipper. If you've talked to everyone, he will ask if you're ready to go back to the farm. If not, he will tell you that you need to listen to the villagers still. Once you return to the farm, your character will go to bed without saving and you'll unlock the following achievement.

Spring 2

Get ready for a busy evening. We have the following goals for today:

  1. Check the TV for an achievement.
  2. Receive your dog for an achievement.
  3. Purchase a turnip/potato seed from the flower shop.
  4. Catch a fish and throw it back in the pond for a power berry.
  5. Hopefully catch a second fish and sell it for 300g.
  6. Clear our field entirely of rocks, grass and fences.
  7. Obtain 3 additional power berries.
  8. Chop enough wood for our first house upgrade.
  9. Pick up our dog 100+ times.
  10. Plant our grass and seeds and call it a night.

This will likely take a couple of hours in real time but it's worth it. You'll have roughly half of the available power berries in the game and the field will stay mostly cleared, only getting random weeds in Spring and Summer. Also, unlike future Harvest Moon games, additional rocks and stumps are not added after winter but only during a hurricane which we will be save scumming to avoid.

First things first, when you wake up, turn around and check the TV. This will earn you the following achievement.

Badge Title Description Points
Turn on the Tube Check the weather report for the next day 1

Leave your house and you'll meet the final bachelorette, Ellen, who brings you your dog. Name him whatever you like for the following achievement.

Badge Title Description Points
Puppy Power Receive and name your dog 1

Dash into the tool shed and pick up your hammer and your axe. Dash over to the flower shop in town and purchase your choice of turnip seeds or potato seeds. Turnip seeds take four days to grow and sell for 60g per turnip. Potatoes take six days but sell for 80g per potato. Both bags cost 200g and you will only have enough for one but it doesn't matter which one you choose so feel free to pick whichever one you want.

Once you've made your selection, dash back to the crossroads and head into the mountains. You should see a fisherman sitting in front of a tent. Talk to him and he'll ask you if you want to use his fishing rod. Tell him yes and move to the wooden plank next to him and press Y. Watch the pole and when it twitches, press Y to reel it in. If it doesn't twitch for a while, you can recast by pressing Y twice.

Power Berry 1

After a short while, you should catch a fish. Pick it up and say No when it asks if you want to eat it. Head down to the front of the lake and toss the fish back in. A kappa will appear, tell you that you're a good person and give you a power berry to eat. This will permanently increase your stamina by 10 points and give you +10 happiness. It will also net you two achievements.

Badge Title Description Points
Something's Fishy Around Here Catch a fish and pick it up 3
Badge Title Description Points
The Power-Giving Tree Eat a Power Berry 3

Return and attempt to catch a second fish. If the screen tints orange, you probably ran out of time unless you immediately catch one. If you don't catch one before night falls, don't worry. Head back to the crossroads. If you caught a second fish, turn it in before the shipper gets there for 300g. This will be your biggest profit maker until you can afford cows and get summer crops.

Power Berry 2

At the crossroads, you'll see a statue of a chicken. Switch to your hammer and smash it with the Y button. It should break and reveal a power berry. This one can be finicky though so if it doesn't appear, run into either the mountains or your farm and back to try again until it drops.

Now, it's time for the daunting task of clearing your farm. For large rocks, stand facing them and hit them six times with your hammer to destroy them. For stumps, do the same but with the axe. Bear in mind that if you move at all, the game will reset the number of hits so try to stay in one spot. To also conserve your stamina, don't use the sickle on the weeds or the hammer on the small rocks. Instead, you can pick up the weeds and immediately throw them to destroy them without using any stamina. For the small rocks, pick them up and throw them into your pond. You will not use any stamina doing this either. You should be able to clear the entire field of weeds and small rocks in one single trip.

As you clear the field and break the large rocks and stumps, you are guaranteed to run out of energy, even with two power berries. This will unlock the following achievement.

Badge Title Description Points
All in a Day's Work Use up all of your energy at the end of the day 1

Of course, our goal is to clear the entirety of the field in one night so we're gonna have to restore our energy. That's where the hot springs come in. Head to the mountains and up the path to the right you'll see the hot springs. Hop in and you'll unlock the following achievement.

Badge Title Description Points
Take a Dip Bathe in the hot spring 1

In order to completely restore our stamina, we need to hop in and out a total of six times. Each hop in restores 20 stamina. Keep this in mind that every odd numbered power berry we find, we'll have to hop in one more additional time. So by the end of the night, we'll be hopping in 7 times each run to completely restore our stamina.

There's also a random chance that when you use the hot tub in the mountains that a monkey will be in it. You can go in and out of the cave if you want to try and get it to spawn but it's not recommended as the monkey can spawn in any season. Just keep an eye out for it when you use the hot spring and talk to it when it spawns in. Even if it does spawn, it will disappear when you change areas so keep that in mind. When you talk to it, you'll unlock an achievement.

Badge Title Description Points
An Unexpected Tub-mate Talk to the monkey 1

While we're up here, we can start to prepare ourselves for our house upgrade as well as look for another power berry. There are 10 total stumps on the mountain that we can currently reach with one unavailable behind a large boulder. After fully restoring our stamina, hop around and chop each of these 10 stumps six times with the axe which will net you 60 wood. Every time you restore your stamina tonight, chop down all ten stumps. Our goal is to hit 250 total wood but I recommend continuing to chop wood to prepare for both house upgrades as we need 1000 wood total for house upgrades and the closer we can get, the less work we'll have to do later.

Power Berry 3

While chopping stumps, you may randomly find a power berry underneath one of them.

Once you've chopped all ten stumps, restore your stamina and return to the field to continue clearing it out. As you continue to clear, turn your focus on the fencing that we have around our buildings. Specifically, the log fences that we can interact with that line the edges of our tool shed, barn and house. Unfortunately, this game does not allow you to return wood back to the bin and fences are useless in this game. The way the game works, rain and other events will randomly break your fences and you can no longer jump over them and have to remove them with your hammer. This will also attract wild animals that can kill your chickens if you leave them outside, which you shouldn't. Therefore, we will be clearing them off the lot before they can break. Like small rocks, pick these up and throw them into the water to get rid of them. Make sure you throw away all wooden fences.

It will likely take a few trips to the hot springs to clear your entire field and each trip you should continue chopping ten wood and restoring your stamina a second time. At the end of clearing your field, you'll likely have 500-600 wood or more. I had over 750 wood upon finishing the night but again, you don't need that much at this time, though it will be helpful for later. Once your field is completely cleared, switch your tools to your hoe and seeds.

At this point, dig the recommended horseshoe shape of 3x3 with a gap in the center of the top row. Be sure to till it near the shipping bin but leave a row above so you can walk above it and access all tilled squares. Toss your seeds in the center and then go back to grab your watering can. Water all of your seeds, refill the watering can and switch it with your grass seeds. I recommend planting your grass in the left side near your house as it is far enough away and narrow enough that it wouldn't be viable for crops but is still close enough to check on. Unlike crops, grass can be walked on so till the full 3x3 square of 9 spaces and throw the grass seeds in the center. These do not have to be watered and will grow automatically.

Power Berry 4

While tilling your farm, you will find this randomly.

While tilling your land, you'll find random things. You can find money once per night as well as the above power berry. If you haven't found the power berry by the time you've planted both your seeds, continue tilling the area above the grass until you do so in preparation for more grass. You'll also likely find a mole as you continue tilling squares looking for the power berry. Pick it up before it disappears for the following achievement.

Badge Title Description Points
Making a Mountain Out of a Molehill Pick up a mole 1

Now for the final task of the night. Picking up our dog 100 times. This does not have to be done tonight but is required for the best ending in the game and it's quick so why not knock it out now? There's also an achievement for picking up your dog 10 times which we'll get along the way to 100. You can mash A to repeatedly pick them up and set them down but try to keep count. You'll need to do it at least 100 times but it does not negatively affect you if you do it more. Along the way, you'll unlock the following achievement.

Badge Title Description Points
Man's Best Friend Hug your dog ten times 1

Once finished, congratulate yourself. You got a ton accomplished! Go in and be sure to save your game at the diary. Also make sure to back up your save file as well so you don't have to do all that again! We'll be using this save file later to get one of the endings so be sure to mark it and keep it somewhere safe.

Spring 3

Our goals for today are much simpler.

  1. Catch at least one fish to sell, preferably 2. Reset if you don't catch any.
  2. Optional: Purchase more seeds if you caught a second fish the previous day.
  3. Water our seeds.
  4. Dig up our fifth power berry.

When you wake up, there's a random chance every day it's not raining that birds will show up in front of your house. If they do, you'll get +2 happiness and the following achievement. If they don't, don't worry because it's a relatively common event that's pretty much guaranteed to happen a few times in your playthrough.

Badge Title Description Points
All of a Flutter See birds outside your home 1

Dash to the mountain. Remember, we'll be taking care of all the watering and grass cutting after 6 PM so we should spend our days attempting to catch fish or gather forageables to make as much money as possible. If you fish and don't catch anything, reset the game and try again as that 300g per fish is critically helpful in the beginning of the game. When you go in the mountain, there's a random chance you'll see a squirrel by the log near the entrance. This can happen once per sunny day that isn't a festival and adds +10 happiness. You can farm it by going back and forth from the crossroads but we don't need to focus on happiness in Year 1 of our ranch master run so it's not worth farming at the moment. However, keep this in mind for the Happy Bachelor ending playthrough as we'll want to farm this as often as possible. There is an achievement for seeing the squirrel in the mountain which will pop the first time you see it.

Badge Title Description Points
Furry Forager See a squirrel during Spring 1

Our goal is to catch at least one fish but preferably two which will give us 600g. If it is raining currently, you will not be able to fish. You can still collect the wild grapes and sell them which only sell for 150g but you can collect up to three per day. Catching fish is the priority though if it's possible.

If you happened to get a second fish the day prior, you can also purchase more seeds which you can plant tonight. If you do, create another crop ground under your previous one in the ideal formation outlined in the hints and tips section. We won't unlock the sprinkler until Summer 20th but our tilled formations will remain all year and it doesn't hurt to start preparing for it.

Once you've finished fishing or the day ends, wrap up by heading back to your farm and watering your crops. Refill your watering can and make sure you have your hoe equipped. Till more squares near your planted grass to prepare for planting more grass seeds until you find another power berry.

Power Berry 5

While tilling your farm, you will find this one randomly. This cannot be obtained the same night as the previous power berry.

Once you've found the power berry, you'll officially have half of the power berries in the game! Remember you now need to jump in the hot springs 8 times to fully restore your stamina. You'll also unlock the following achievement:

Badge Title Description Points
Seeds of Strength Eat five Power Berries 5

That will wrap up everything for tonight.

Spring 4

Our goals for today depend on whether it's sunny or raining.

If it's sunny:

  1. Head to town and purchase two or three seeds depending on how many fish you caught the prior day.
  2. Talk to Maria until she has 400 affection points.
  3. Talk to Eve until she has 400 affection points.
  4. Plant and water crops.

If it's raining:

  1. Head to town and purchase two or three seeds depending on how many fish you caught the prior day.
  2. Forage the mountain for wild grapes and ship them.
  3. Plant and water your seeds.

If it's raining, it will be a much simpler day. But we will run with the assumption that it is sunny. If it is not, move maxing relationships until the next sunny day.

First, dash to town and buy two or three more seeds depending on how many fish you caught. Two fish will get you three seeds. If you only got one fish, you should still have enough for one or two.

From there, head left to the church and Maria will be outside sweeping. Talk to her until she asks you if you believe in God. Whether you do or don't, answer "Yes" for +8 relationship points. Dash into the nearby church and back out. Continue talking to Maria and she will ask you again. You can repeat this as many times as she's outside until 6 PM. In order to get her to 400 points, you'll need to do this 50 times. It does not have to be 400 points exactly but should be in that ball park and 50 times is a nice round number to get her to 400 even.

To check how many points you're currently at if you lose count, you can either use RASNES and enable "Rich Presence Monitoring" to see your affection points in real time or you can pause your emulator, wait a few minutes for the website to update and refresh your profile page on Retroachievements website to see the rich presence. You'll see "Jack is in town" followed by several emoji and numbers. Maria's affection will show as ⛪ 400 if she has 400 affection points. Once she's around 400 affection points, you can stop talking to Maria. Now, we are going to repeat the process for Eve.

Eve is the only bachelorette who can be visited after 6 PM and can be found in the bar. Talk to her and she'll ask you if you want some of her fruit juice. Tell her no for a +8 affection boost. Again, repeat this by running in and out of the bar and talking to Eve until she stops asking questions, which will be around 120 affection points. You can also monitor Eve's affection using the above Rich Presence tricks. Eve's affection is represented as 🌳 400.

Now, we will have to run to the mountain and grab a few flowers to give to her until her affection points get to 150. This will bump her affection up enough until she starts asking you a new question: "Do you feel lonely on the farm?". Tell her Sometimes and repeat this. Eventually, she'll return to her original question around 200 affection points. Again, monitor her affection until you hit roughly 400 affection points.

You now have two girls near the threshold so pat yourself on the back. We will only need to do some minor adjusting in Fall to get them to ranch master range. Head home, plant and water your crops and remember your watering can only has enough water for 20 uses. This is about two and a half groups of crops so refill it every two groups of crops you water and again when you're done.

If it was raining out, Maria won't be outside and Eve won't ask you questions in the bar. Save this for the next sunny day. Also, remember that due to a bug, any crops that are planted during the rain or plants that regrow after being harvested still have to be watered. Once everything is watered, head to bed.

Spring 5

Our goals for today again depend on the weather and whether or not the previous day was completed.

If it's sunny:

  1. Head to town and talk to Ellen until she has 400 affection points.
  2. Water your crops.

If it's raining:

  1. Forage the mountain for wild grapes and ship them.

If it rained yesterday:

  1. Focus on Maria and Eve instead.
  2. Water your crops.

Today is simple: get Ellen in a good spot for a relationship. As it is the last weekday of the week, it's a good idea to get her in range so you don't have to wait till next week when more of your crops are ready. She stands outside the livestock dealer when it's sunny. Talk to her and she'll ask you if you like animals. Tell her you do for +8 relationship points. Head inside the livestock dealer and back out to repeat until you reach 400 affection with Ellen. You can check on the Rich Presence as her affection appears as 🐄 400.

Once she's at 400 points roughly, try to catch a fish or bring home a wild berry depending on how much time you have left. Head back home, water your crops and head to bed.

There's also a decent probability that the day starts with one of the heart events for Maria or Eve, of which only one can trigger per day. If a carpenter mentions someone trapped in the cave, complete the day as outlined, water your crops and before you head to bed, grab your hammer and head to the mountain cave. Smash the rocks in the cave and talk to Eve's grandpa to be rewarded with a big boost to affection and you'll automatically end the day without saving but with a +50 affection boost to Eve.

If it's Maria's, the mayor will come by to inform you she has gone missing. She is hiding in the carpenter's house on the mountain and will remain missing until you find her. Like Eve, once you complete her event the day will end but unfortunately, once 5 PM hits she cannot be found as the carpenters close shop at that time. Wait for a day when you can water all your plants early and visit her in the house to progress the event.

If these don't happen, they likely will soon so keep them in mind. Eve's is relatively simple but with Maria's, you'll want to find her on a day you can easily wrap up your chores before 5 PM to get it out of the way, which is best before our crops come in.

Spring 6

Today is a catch up day. Eve will still be in the bar and the question method still works on a Saturday if you want to boost her relationship. You can also talk to Ellen but because the livestock dealer is closed, you can't run in and out to continually gain affection points. Of course, you won't want to do this if you already got them to 400 affection. If you bought turnip seeds, they will be ready on this day so make sure to harvest them first before you go to town.

There's a chance that Ellen's heart event will trigger along with Eve or Maria's if they haven't yet. Ellen has lost her bird P-Chan. You can find him on a post next to the fishing hole on the mountain. Like the other heart events, make sure your chores are done before you attempt this because it will end the day without saving.

Spring 7-22

Now that all three girls available during Spring have 400 or more affection, it's time to make some money. Here are the goals to strive towards during Spring:

  1. Continue fishing for 300-600g per day. Forage on rainy days for up to 450g per day.
  2. Continue purchasing seeds from the flower shop to grow and ship.
  3. Purchase more grass so we can start buying animals.
  4. Buy a chicken for 1000g.
  5. Make sure you have at LEAST 2000g on the night of Spring 22nd.
  6. Use your sickle to harvest grass every 9 days.
  7. Focus on harvesting crops in the day if they are ready.
  8. Use night time for planting and watering.

We're gonna fast forward through the next part. The weather will affect how you progress the next few days. Remember also that the shops are not open on the weekends and you can't purchase or sell livestock when it's raining.

You should continue fishing at the mountain for 300-600g per day. However, once your crops are ready, those take priority and you should focus on getting those shipped and replanted with new crops that you purchase.

Our first immediate goal is to save enough to get at least one more grass bag to purchase a chicken. Chickens cost 1000g but the rest can be bred for free. Each animal requires 16 squares of planted grass, roughly 2 bags, in order to purchase it from the livestock dealer. Eventually, we'll want to get a few more bags of grass too so we can get a cow. It won't take long at all to get the 1500g necessary for the chicken and the grass, especially when the crops start coming in and with the daily fishing.

Your first batch of grass will also be ready to cut with your sickle on the 10th. Every 9 days, your grass will regrow and you can cut it to keep as fodder for your animals to feed on. Both chickens and cows feed on fodder in this game, unlike later games that require bird feed for chickens, so it's important to stockpile enough fodder early on. You can also randomly find a frog while cutting grass, which will increase your happiness. There is also an achievement for this.

Badge Title Description Points
Cutting It Close See a frog 1

However, if it comes to a pinch and you're nearly running out of fodder, you can skip feeding chickens and the only penalty will be they won't lay eggs for three days. If you skip feeding cows, you will take a hit to your happiness and their affection rate and worse: they could get sick. Sick cows need medicine which costs 1000g each or they can die which will drop your happiness by 100 points. If you get to a point where you no longer need eggs or their income or you need to conserve fodder for your cows, you can safely skip feeding chickens.

Once you get your chicken, remember to feed it fodder so it will continue to lay eggs. This will add 50g to your daily income but we should take our first egg and throw it in the incubator to the right of the barn. It will take seven days to hatch but once it does you'll unlock another achievement.

Badge Title Description Points
Hatching a Plan Bring a baby chick into the world 5

From then, it will take another seven days to grow into a full chicken. During this time, you do not have to feed it until it grows up so be sure to save your fodder. During our first year, it's recommended that we breed a chicken every seven days and sell it to the livestock dealer when it grows up for 500g, keeping one chicken to lay more eggs. Baby chicks cannot be sold and you will take a -20 to happiness for selling each chicken but the hit will be worth the money, at least until we get enough cows to keep us rolling in the dough. There's enough happiness boosts in Year 2 alone to take us to max, even if we zero our happiness which won't happen.

We will need to get at least 2000g by the 22nd in order to afford an exclusive item at the festival. If you do not purchase it, you will have to attend the flower festival a second time in Year 2 which will add additional points to the girls affections that you will have to account for. Once you get 2000g, you'll unlock an achievement. Bear in mind you have to be holding the amount of money for the achievement to unlock, it is not cumulative. This is also true of the rest of the money achievements as well.

Badge Title Description Points

You can also upgrade your house but I recommend waiting until closer to Summer to do so. We will want to get it before Summer 14th so we can get married by the 25th or 26th for Nina and have two anniversaries. The deadline for the clock is Summer 30th, which we need for ranch master, but we'll be aiming to propose on Summer 25th so we'll need to upgrade by a certain time. If you have the resources, feel free to upgrade to get a head start but make sure you have 2000g on the night of the 22nd so we can purchase an exclusive item.

Also, try to make a decision on who you want to marry by the 23rd of Spring. That way, you can give them the 30 point affection boost from dancing with them at the festival.

Once you're ready, head to bed and you're certain you have at least 2000g, write in your diary and back up your save file.

Spring 23

Welcome to your first festival! Before we get too much into it, below is a list of things we will be doing today.

  1. Immediately head to the festival to take care of an achievement.
  2. Reset the game, take care of our chores and make sure we get to town before 3 PM.
  3. Purchase the Snow Gem.
  4. Talk to everyone at the festival and choose our future wife to dance with.

First of all, let's get an achievement for purchasing and gifting the right perfume for a bachelorette. Perfume costs a whopping 1000g each and will give a +15 affection bonus to whoever you gift it to. However, it's not worth the money, especially when we're saving for a house and for animals. Run straight to town and the festival will begin. In the top left corner of the town square will be Nina's mom, the flower shop owner. Talk to her and purchase a pink perfume for 1000g then give it to Nina. You'll unlock the following achievement:

Badge Title Description Points
A Lovely Scent Give one of the girls her favorite kind of perfume 3

Once you've unlocked this achievement, reset the game and start the day over. Take care of any crops and animals you have and make sure you get to town before 3 PM or the festival will be over by the time you get there. If that happens, reset and leave some of your crops unwatered so you can make it in time.

Once you get to the festival, talk to the peddler in the top right corner. He will offer a Snow Gem for 2000g. This item can only be planted in Winter but will give us a power berry and is exclusive to this festival. Purchase it and talk to everyone there. Eve, Maria and Ellen will all get +15 affection from this festival while Nina and Ann will get +8. Even if you've done their heart events, they should still be around 468 affection and under 511 but if not, feel free to correct this by giving them some weeds to bring their affection down the next day.

After you've talked to everyone, talk to the mayor's wife and she'll move allowing you to talk to the mayor. He will ask you to pick a dance partner. Pick the girl you want to marry as this will give you a +30 affection boost. If you are unsure who to marry still, pick Ann or Nina to give them a slight boost. The day will then end without allowing you to save.

Spring 24-30

For the remainder of the month, we have the following goals.

  1. Continue focusing on growing spring crops, fishing on the off days and buying seeds and grass.
  2. Start saving up for the house purchase and get it if you can.
  3. Breed chickens and sell all but one adult chicken for 500g each.
  4. Optional: Get Ellen, Maria or Eve up to 650 affection if you plan to marry one of them.
  5. Check the ending after the 28th to see your scores and get your first ending achievements.
  6. Optional: Plant a final batch of spring crops on Spring 30th if you want an extra boost into summer.

The next morning, make sure you take care of any harvesting and animal work and head to the mountain if you have time. Continue chopping grass, watering and make sure to save since you couldn't after the festival. Your focus should be on shipping as many spring crops as possible before the season ends as well as trying to get a few more grass seeds as we will be going for a cow soon. Don't spend all of your money though as we will need a lot for summer crops and we need to start worrying about upgrading our house. If you already upgraded it, you're ahead of the game.

Also, if you've decided to marry Maria, Eve or Ellen, spend another weekday bringing their affection points up to 650. The reason is it's much harder to raise your affection with your wife than it is when you're single. When you're single, you can use the questions they ask to boost their affection. When you're married, you have to give gifts or go to bed with them to increase their affection, unless you marry Eve, and you will lose affection every night you stay out past 6 PM which are our prime working hours or every night if you marry Eve. You will need 450 affection to have your first child and 650 affection to have your second. However, you're looking at 121 days of keeping their affection near 650 after marriage so use an extra day to get it that high while you're still single. If you plan to marry Nina or Ann, you can disregard this and head safely into Summer.

Another thing to keep in mind is if you want to plant additional spring crops on Spring 30. Unlike future games in the series, your crops will not wither in Summer and you can safely water and harvest them well into Summer. Since your Summer crops will not be ready until at earliest Summer 10, this will give you an additional boost until they're ready as well as boost your crop numbers as we need to get to 511 crops shipped for all four crops.

One more thing you might be interested in is using the ending trick to check your stats. On the night of Spring 28, when you save, press and hold L + R + Start + Select. Make sure you don't have any hotkeys bound to these buttons in your emulator or it won't work. Once the screen fades, keep holding it and when it comes back on, you'll see your character with his parents and proceed to get your endings. The achievement logic is set to only unlock from the 28th to roughly the beginning few days of the next season so feel free to use this to pop a few ending achievements along the way. You will get the following achievement automatically during the credits roll.

Badge Title Description Points
Seems Like Only Yesterday... Finish the game 5

If you have bought at least one chicken, you'll unlock the following ending and achievement.

Badge Title Description Points
Full Henhouse Get Ending #4: Chicken Farmer 10

If your happiness is over 100, you'll also get the following ending and achievement.

Badge Title Description Points
Friends Forever Get Ending #10: Content Bachelor 10

You'll likely already be at a ranch master score of over 50 unlocking the following achievement.

Badge Title Description Points
Ranch Trainee Finish the game with a ranch master score of at least 50 3

Make sure you back up your save file from Spring 29th and 30th. Starting in Summer, we will be doing daily backups to prevent hurricanes from spawning. When you're ready, finish up your work and head into Summer 1.

My crop totals at this point:

120 turnips 120 potatoes - 15 bags each

Don't fret if yours aren't matching. You have three years to get to 511 crops shipped though it's recommended to finish your crops by Year 2.

Summer 1

Welcome to the new season! The colors have changed to brighter colors, warm clouds hover overhead and we have new crop options! You'll also notice on the mountain that the squirrel no longer appears and that wild grapes have been replaced with a melon further up near the top, making it harder to forage for money. But what we lack in foraging we will make up tenfold in crops sales. Summer crops, unlike spring crops, regrow every three days which means our return on investment skyrockets. There are also no festivals in summer and this is likely due to a new threat that can shut down your entire farm for one day: hurricanes.

Every day, there's a random chance the weather for the next day will be a hurricane. It can rain in summer but a hurricane will show a surprised person in a raincoat with an upturned umbrella talking about the 'hurricane forecast'. If this happens, it will destroy crops, trash your field and force you to go to bed early without allowing you to work on the farm or tend to your animals. If you have cows, this will also mean a hit to your happiness and their affection. They're all around bad so for that purpose, we will be backing up our save files daily and checking the weather every morning. If you see a hurricane, restore the previous days backup as the weather report generates after you go to bed. It sucks losing a day of progress but its better than the alternative.

Our biggest goal for Summer is to upgrade our house at least once by the end of the season if you haven't already. Preferably, we want to start the house upgrade no later than Summer 14th which is a Monday. It will take five days to upgrade. The first day is asking the carpenter to come over and he will mention he'll stop by the house the next day. The second day, he stops by, asks for the resources and once confirmed, he mentions he will start the actual upgrade the next day. From there, it takes three days of working to fully upgrade. This will give us the clock as well as have our upgraded house ready by Summer 19th, which will make the blue feather available for purchase that day. Then we can propose on Summer 25th, or Summer 26th if you're marrying Nina, which is the latest day you can marry and have two anniversaries.

For today, we have the following list of goals.

  1. Check the weather for hurricanes.
  2. Purchase corn and tomatoes from the flower shop.
  3. Fish until sundown.
  4. Plant only tomato crops.
  5. Water all crops.
  6. Start daily backups of our save files to prevent hurricanes.

Immediately check the weather for the next day when you wake up on Summer 1st. If you're unlucky enough to have a hurricane on your first day, reload your Spring 30th backup. If it's good, back up your save file. For the entire month, I had a folder labeled "Summer Year 1" with subfolders for each day that I would backup good save files into.

If the weather appears normal, head into town and purchase corn and tomatoes. Get as much as you want as we will have our first tomato harvests on the 10th and 13th which is plenty of time for the house upgrade if you haven't yet got it. Once you have all the crops you want, head back and fish until sundown to regain some money.

When you get back to the ranch, plant only the tomato seeds. Keep planting them in the optimal pattern outlined in the hints section. We will be unlocking the sprinkler this month on the 20th, which will be an immediate purchase, and having an optimal watering pattern ready will save a ton of time. Since the sprinkler does not run out of water, this will cut your watering time down to a fraction of what is currently is.

You may be wondering why we don't plant the corn seeds tonight. Tomato seeds take 9 days to grow and regrow every 3 days. This will give you crop yields on the 10th, 13th, 16th, 19th, 22st, 25th and 28th. However, if you plant corn as well, that takes 12 days to grow and regrows every 3 days. That would make it ready on the 13th, 16th, 19th, 22nd, 25th and 28th. See the problem? Without the horse, your time is limited and you will struggle to harvest all the crops in time. So by staggering the planting of corn, you can change that to the 14th, 17th, 23rd, 26th and 29th which should give you plenty of time to harvest and give you close to a daily profit starting on the 13th.

Make sure you water your crops, including any spring crops you have planted and cut any grown grass. Then head to bed, save and check the weather. If it's good, back up your current save. If there's a hurricane, reload your Summer 1st backup and redo the day.

Summer 2

Summer 2nd is pretty similar to Summer 1st. Here is the list of goals for the day.

  1. Fish until sundown.
  2. Plant corn and water all crops.
  3. Save, check weather and make a backup.

Pretty much a carbon copy of the previous day except you won't need to buy seeds. Fish until sundown to make some money and after sundown, plant your corn seeds and water everything. Getting into the routine, once you're done, save, go to bed, check the next morning's weather and back up your save if it's there's no hurricane or load your backup if there is.

Summer 3-9

We're gonna get back to skipping ahead again. Here are the goals for this time period.

  1. Choose a weekday to talk to Ann and get her to 400 or 650 if you plan to marry her.
  2. Try to to talk to Nina and get her to 400 or 650 if you plan to marry her on the same day.
  3. Fish on off days and sunny days. Forage on rainy days.
  4. Harvest any spring crops you planted.
  5. When you have 5,000g or more, purchase the house upgrade.
  6. Continue watering crops and cutting grass in preparation for getting a cow.
  7. Continue checking weather and making backups.

For the most part, these days will be pretty similar. Pick a random sunny weekday and head to town. Ann will be in the tool shop working on her invention. Talk to her and eventually she will tell you her invention will be at the shop soon and to please try it. Answer "Hum" to gain 8 affection points. The best part is that because she's in the tool shop, you can run back to Ann's room and back in the tool shop to continue getting this question without any time elapsing! Get her to 400 points if you don't plan to marry her and 650 if you do then leave. Remember to pause your emulator and wait a few minutes to check on the Retroachievements website if you're not using RASNES.

Since we got Ann in a good range, head up to the flower shop and find Nina outside. She'll ask you if you like flowers. Tell her yes for 8 affection points. Run in the flower shop and continue doing this until she is at 400 or 650 depending on whether you intend to marry her.

Congrats! You now have all five girls within decent range for the ranch master! We will be doing some fine tuning in Fall/Winter but other than that the hard part is out of the way!

Like with the other bachelorettes, you'll soon get Ann and Nina's heart events on the farm. Like the previous heart events, the day will end when you complete them so make sure your watering, grass cutting and animals are taken care of. Unlike Maria, both of these events can be completed at any time. For Nina, Ann's dad will inform you that she was picking herbs for her sick mother and hasn't returned yet. Grab your hammer, head to the herb cave and just like Eve's event, smash the rocks with your hammer and talk to her. She'll tell you not to worry but then falter as you help her.

For Ann, she'll ask you to get her weather vane as she can't find it and it's sentimental for her. You'll find it in the chicken barn. Check it and you'll bring it back to Ann and the event will be over.

If you planted spring crops, they'll likely be ready within this time frame so harvest them to get some extra money. On days that you aren't harvesting, continue fishing. Ultimately, we want to upgrade our house in this time frame but we will have two tomato crops to rely on if you're not quite there money wise.

Continue doing your normal chores: chop grass, water plants, feed chickens and sell them when they grow up for 500g each. Save each night and check the weather in the morning, reloading a backup if there's a hurricane and backing up your save if there is not.

Summer 10-12

  1. Harvest tomatoes.
  2. Purchase house upgrade.
  3. Continue daily chores and backups.
  4. Stop selling chickens and make sure to breed at least two.

Congrats, your first tomatoes are in! Quickly take care of your chickens and head out to harvest them. You'll likely get a lot of gold and it will push you over 5000g if you've been fishing and foraging. Remember too that if you harvest tomatoes or corn while it's raining, you still have to water them after harvesting them as the rain only waters crops in the morning.

If you have time, book it to the mountain and head in the tree house. You absolutely want to upgrade your house by the 11th if you haven't already because we'll have back to back harvests on the 13th and 14th and we won't have time to head to the mountain and get all the crops unless you didn't plant many. Talk to the carpenter inside then leave and come back to talk to him again about the house upgrade. For some reason, he won't actually offer the house upgrade until you've talked to him about it once prior. Double check to make sure you have the 250 wood, which you should have more than plenty from Spring 2nd. If you don't, spend tonight chopping wood until you have over 250. Also, don't spend the 5000g for the upgrade as he won't take it until he comes to your house to confirm. If you couldn't make it in time, head there first thing in the morning on the 11th.

He'll show up on your farm the following morning after you talk to him and ask if you want to upgrade. Say yes and he will take the wood and money and tell you he will be by tomorrow to start the upgrade process. After three days pass from the start of the upgrade, it will be complete and you'll unlock the following two achievements.

Badge Title Description Points
Cabin Fever Have your house upgraded to the Deluxe Log Cabin 5
Badge Title Description Points
It's About Time Obtain the clock 3

Now that you've upgraded your house, head over to the fireplace and check it with A. You will unlock the following achievement.

Badge Title Description Points
The Origin of Fire Check to see where fire comes from 1

There are multiple reports of being able to get this without the house upgrade but this is directly referencing the weirdly translated line "check the origin of fire!" when examining the pots in the upgraded house. Be sure to get this before you get married as this will only unlock when you're single and will not unlock after you get married for some reason.

At this time, you'll want to stop selling your chickens as well. We'll make plenty of money with crops this month. Keep two on hand going forward.

Summer 13-18

  1. Harvest second tomato batch and corn.
  2. Last chance for house upgrade.
  3. Get the golden sickle.
  4. Buy your first cow as well as more grass, a brush and the milker.
  5. Be sure to save 1000g for the blue feather.

On Summer 13th, you'll get your second batch of tomatoes. If you still haven't gotten your house upgrade, the 14th is the last day to get it to have two wedding anniversaries, which is the best way to increase happiness in the game. You can wait if you want but you'll only have a single anniversary as you won't be able to get married until fall. You'll likely be more than OK, as a single anniversary will add 360 happiness to your overall score and there are other ways to boost it. But for the sake of the walkthrough, we're going to assume from this point that you've already upgraded your house. It will also help you get your second child earlier.

Summer 14th will also be your first corn harvest day so be sure to book it to the mountain early for the house upgrade if you still haven't got it. Afterwards, you'll likely have lots of gold even with the house upgrade. You can buy additional crops if you like but you won't get as many yields out of them. Just remember it takes 9 days to grow a single tomato and 12 for corn. In fact, Summer 18th is the final day you can plant corn to get a single yield.

On a random day in Summer, you should get an event where you hear a loud sound when waking up. The carpenter will come by and suggest you take a look around. Head to the bottom right of the farm and you should find a tree that has been blown up, likely by lightning, allowing you to enter. When you do, you'll find a Harvest Sprite who will ask you if you use your sickle often. Tell him you do and he will be overjoyed, proclaim that he made it and tells you he will upgrade it for you. The next day, head to your tool shed to find your sickle has been upgraded to a Golden Sickle. Pick it up for an achievement.

Badge Title Description Points
Kulak Upgrade your Sickle to the Golden Sickle 5

This upgraded sickle allows you to cut a 3 by 3 area around you. So if you stand in the middle of a grass patch, you can cut the entire 3x3 square in one go! If you told the Harvest Sprite no, you can still obtain this achievement. The Golden Sickle will become available to purchase in the Tool Shop. But you will miss out on the happiness boost that comes with telling him yes.

Next, we'll take our money that we've been earning and invest it into a cow. Cows cost 5000g and take 21 days to grow up but will be your ultimate money makers and are the single greatest contribution to your ranch master score with a combined 336 total ranch master score exclusively dedicated to cows. Remember, each animal you have requires 16 squares of planted grass before you can buy an additional one. You can also only purchase a single animal a day so you can't buy multiple cows. It's recommended to invest heavy in grass seeds too because once summer rolls around, you can no longer plant or purchase them. Be sure to purchase the brush from the tool shop for 800g as well and, if you can afford it, the milker for 1800g. The milker isn't necessary at first though so if you can't afford it, pick it up later closer to when the cow grows up.

Like baby chickens, you can also skip feeding baby and child cows until they grow up so save your grass. However, once you purchase them, you will want to brush them and talk to them daily. This will increase their affection points by 4 total each day: 1 for talking to them and 3 for brushing them. Cows give different grades of milk based on their happiness so be sure to do this daily! Chances are, by the time they start giving you milk, you will only have a couple days of small milk before it upgrades to medium if you brush them and talk to them every day as a child.

On the night of the 18th, make sure you have at least 3000g, save and check the weather. We're getting married soon.

Summer 19-24

  1. Buy the blue feather.
  2. Purchase the Sprinkler.
  3. Continue buying grass and cows with the crop money.
  4. Continue chores, harvesting, etc.

When you wake up on Summer 19th, head to the town square and head to the peddler. He'll have a blue feather available for sale for 1000g. Buy it! This item is Harvest Moon's engagement ring. You can try to propose immediately if you like but they will reject it and suggest a different day. For every girl except Nina, the day they will accept it is Saturday and we will be proposing this Saturday, Summer 25th. For Nina, it is instead every Sunday, which will be Summer 26th. It will only work if it's sunny so if it rains those days, reload a backup to ensure it's sunny. This day will also be the date of your wedding and your anniversary so be sure to keep track of it.

The upgraded sprinkler will become available on the 20th for 2000g and it's a must purchase! This tool waters a 3x3 square around you but more importantly, it never runs out of water! Head down on the 20th and reap the benefits of how much faster you water crops. Unfortunately, we only have 10 days to use it before next year but it's still worth it as it will massively speed up the watering process. You'll also unlock an achievement when you purchase it.

Badge Title Description Points
Helicopter Get? Upgrade your Watering Can to the Sprinkler 5

Since that's done, head back and continue your chores. Continue purchasing more grass when you can afford it as well as additional cows as the livestock dealer lets you. However, grass remains a priority as we can no longer plant it in Fall but we can continue purchasing cows.

Summer 25 or 26

  1. Take care of your animals.
  2. Leave the watering and harvesting for the next day.
  3. Get married.

Make a backup of your save file on Summer 25th! Be sure to label the folder as proposal or something similar. This will be the save file we restore later to get the remaining bachelorette marriages and endings. Even if you're marrying Nina, having a backup of Summer 25th will allow you to restore it later and marry the other four bachelorettes on that Saturday.

Take care of your animals but feel free to leave the watering for the next day or the harvesting in Nina's case. We will still get the same crop yields if you push the watering or harvesting back a day and getting married by the 25th or 26th is important.

When you're ready, grab the blue feather from the tool shed and head to town if it's the 25th or the mountain if you're marrying Nina. Use the blue feather on the bachelorette of your choice and you will get married immediately unlocking one of the following five achievements:

The day will immediately end.

Summer 26-30

  1. Check for hurricanes.
  2. Take care of remaining chores.
  3. Continue buying and planting grass and purchasing cows.
  4. Check the endings again after the 28th.
  5. Make sure you have 2 chickens going into Fall.

Because you couldn't save the previous day, check the weather for hurricanes and redo the wedding if necessary. Continue working your farm, purchasing grass over new cows if you have to choose.

Another thing to keep in mind is that we will now be directly affecting our wife's affection every single day. For every girl you marry, they will get a -2 affection every time you enter the house after 6 PM. Of course, that is our busiest work hours and we won't be adjusting our schedule because of our marriage, at least in Spring and Summer. You will also gain 2 affection with every girl except Eve when you go to bed when she's in the house. Eve will also get a -2 affection rating for this. Again, this isn't a reason to change our work hours. Instead, if you're worried, you can give a gift to your wife every 4 days or so to keep their affection the same. However, we will get some massive boosts coming up mostly because there won't be much to do in Fall and Winter as well as the Harvest Festival Dance and the Star Night Festival so don't worry too much about your wife's affection. If you want to be nice, give your wife a flower or cake. Do not give Nina flowers as this will give her -8 affection when married. Flowers will give the rest +8 affection except Ellen who gets +6.

As with Spring, you'll want to use the L + R + Select + Start code to check your endings on the 28th and unlock some new achievements. You'll get one of the following:

You'll very likely also be over 250 ranch master at this point due to your relationships, house upgrade, power berries and happiness. You should unlock the following:

Badge Title Description Points
Ranch Hand Finish the game with a ranch master score of at least 250 5

Depending on how much crops you shipped, you may get a couple extra endings but those will be covered later.

Once you get to Summer 30th, do not plant any more seeds outside of grass seeds! Everything will wilt on the 1st of Fall so there's no point. Feel free to sickle your crops to clear the space and plant any last minute grass as this will be the final day to do so. Once you're ready, head to bed and breathe a sigh of relief. Hurricanes are no longer are a factor until next year so you can be more selective with your backups.

My crop totals at this point:

144 corn 168 tomatoes

Don't fret if yours aren't matching. You have three years though it's recommended to finish your crops by Year 2.

Fall 1-9:

  1. Keep an eye out for a fallen Harvest Sprite for a Golden Hoe upgrade.
  2. Sell a chicken for a power berry.
  3. Purchase second house upgrade.
  4. Continue fishing during the day after taking care of animals.
  5. Buy more cows.
  6. Start cutting and rationing grass for Winter.

Welcome to Fall! You'll notice another color shift to signify the season change as well as the worst music in the game. First things first: head outside and keep your eyes peeled near your shipping box for a Harvest Sprite. He will spawn either Year 1 or Year 2 and can spawn on different days but when he does, he will ask for food. Rush to the mountain and to the right. You should see the season's collectables: mushrooms and poison mushrooms. Poison mushrooms have yellow spores on them, regular mushrooms are pure red. Bring him a red mushroom and he will thank you by upgrading your hoe. Like the sickle, this will take a day and you will have to grab it from the tool shed the next day for the achievement.

Badge Title Description Points
Hoe-down Upgrade your Hoe to the Golden Hoe 5

If you fail this event, you can still purchase it at the Tool Shop but you will lose the happiness boost. While we're on the subject, Poison mushrooms are also a fantastic way to lower affection rate if the other four bachelorettes are too high as it gives -8 to their affection rate.

Next up, we'll finally be getting another power berry. To do this, head to the livestock dealer and sell a chicken.

Power Berry 6

If you sell a chicken in Fall, the Hawker will show up instead of the Livestock Dealer. He'll offer to trade you something good for your chicken. Accept and he will give you this power berry.

Another thing of note is there are no more crops to plant so you will have a lot more free time. If you haven't raised the affection rate of Ellen and Maria to 400 yet for some reason, you can do so by talking to them in town and answering their questions again. They've changed them slightly for Fall. Ellen will ask you if you like sweets. Tell her yes for +8 affection. Maria will ask if you like kids. Say you love kids for +8 affection.

We want to purchase our second house upgrade during this time as well. On my file, I purchased it on the 7th of Fall. We want everything finished by the 14th because our wife will announce her pregnancy on that date or the 15th. If we do not have the upgraded house, we will have to wait.

To get it, we will have to chop at least 750 wood and have 10,000g on hand. This will unlock the following achievement:

Badge Title Description Points
Prosperous Plant Earn 10,000G 5

Go to the mountains at night with your axe. Chopping all ten stumps will net you 60 pieces of wood. I still had about 500 wood left from Spring 2nd so I only had to do roughly 5 runs. Use the hot spring to restore your health and zone in and out of the summit to respawn the logs until you have enough. Keep in mind that if you see Eve and Nina in the mountains on the weekend, don't speak with them as they will likely ask you a question that will increase their affection. Eve sometimes randomly shows up in the hot tub as well on the weekend and she will give you affection points if you talk to her in there. If you married either of them, they will not show up but instead be on your farm.

Once you have enough wood, talk to the carpenter again. Like last time, he will stop by your house the following day, take payment then start the next day, finishing three days later. Once he does, you'll unlock the following achievement.

Badge Title Description Points
Home, Super Deluxe Home Have your house upgraded to the Super Deluxe Log Cabin 10

Once that house upgrade is complete, that will be the final upgrade and you'll get both ranch master bonuses. You will also be able to have children and you'll see their crib and bed on the right side of the house.

Without crops to water, your main focus will be on your animals. We can safely stop selling chickens at this point if you haven't already. Continue brushing your cows daily and very soon, your first cow will likely grow up and be ready for milking. Remember, at this point, you will have to feed them if you haven't already been doing so. At first, they'll only give you small milk which sells for 150g. But it won't be long before it upgrades to medium which sells for 250g. By the end of the month, you'll likely have one or two cows producing large milk which sells for a whopping 350g each. Once you get all 12 cows producing large milk, you'll get a whopping 4200g per day from cows alone.

Fall is also when you're gonna want to start calculating your fodder reserves. In order to make it through winter safely, you'll need enough grass for 40 days before your spring grass comes in. Technically, it's 38 since Star Night Festival and New Years automatically feed your animals without depleting your reserves if you want to do precise math. If you have lots of cows, you'll have to plan accordingly. You can buy cow food at the livestock dealer for 1000g each but that only contains 12 servings and you can't purchase it on weekends. Ultimately, you'll likely have around 6 or more cows at the end of fall so 6x40 = 240 on Fall 30th, not counting chickens or additional cows you might have. Remember, you do not have to feed child cows or chicks so that can save you some fodder.

Cows are our long term goal so keep a single chicken on hand for the time being until the livestock dealer tells you that you can't get any more. As counter intuitive as it sounds, once that happens, start breeding chickens. Every seven days, you can put a new egg in the incubator meaning we can get 4-5 more chickens before the end of the month. It's long term but we want 12 adult chickens by Summer 25th or 26th in time for our anniversary. Ultimately, you'll want to breed as many as possible and stop feeding your chickens all together except one to keep breeding in Winter to conserve fodder. As cruel as it sounds, there is no negative repercussions from not feeding your chickens outside of them not laying eggs for three days. There is, however, repercussions from not feeding cows as you take hits to your cow affection, happiness and they have a chance to get sick which further drains your happiness and costs 1000g each to fix. So as long as you feed one chicken, you can continue to pop eggs into the incubator and have enough to max out in time for Summer.

Again, only start this once the livestock dealer tells you that you cannot support more cows. Since we can no longer buy grass, that will be the maximum cows we can have until Spring rolls around. For me, this number was seven. Seven was enough to get me over 100,000g by spring so as long as you prioritized grass, you should have enough for quite a few cows.

Other than that, continue fishing for 300g a fish. You can also sell mushrooms for 150g a piece and since they're close, you can sell a few of them if it's raining. Continue making backups if you want though they no longer have to be daily to avoid hurricanes.

Fall 10-12:

  1. Sell the Fullmoon Berry each day.
  2. Catch a fish before the Harvest Festival on the 12th.
  3. Talk to everyone and dance with your wife for a 30 boost to affection.

Starting on Fall 10th, the Fullmoon Berry starts growing on the mountain summit. Head up there, take it to your farm and throw it in the shipping box for a whopping 600g. You can only pick one per day and it only grows on these three days but it's worth it. Afterwards, continue your chores, fishing and grass chopping.

On Fall 12th, the next festival will be held in the town square: the Harvest Festival! This festival asks you to bring an item to toss in the collective soup pot. You will then eat the soup you provided. Before heading to the festival, you want to make a decision. You can bring the Fullmoon Berry or you can sell it and catch a fish. Both will net you a power berry if you bring it to the town square. It's up to you whether you want to pocket the 600g and risk not catching a fish or take it and get the power berry easier though I'd recommend taking the Fullmoon Berry to save time. Keep in mind to cut your grass and take care of your animals before you take it to the festival as the day will end after the festival.

Power Berry 7

Bring a fish or the Fullmoon Berry to the Harvest Festival.

You'll also get the following achievement.

Badge Title Description Points
Stone Soup Bring an ingredient for the big stew bowl in the Harvest Festival 3

After you eat, you'll be required to talk to all the townsfolk. Each of the girls will ask you to try their food or, in Ann's case, her invention. Saying yes will add +8 affection to their score. Saying no will add +2 to their score. Once you talk to everyone, talk to the mayor's wife and she will move. The mayor will ask you if you're ready to dance. Pick your wife otherwise you'll take a big hit to her affection. She'll get a +30 affection boost if you do choose her.

Like most festivals, once you're done, the day will automatically end.

Fall 13-19:

  1. Get Maria to 491 points if she's single.
  2. Get Ellen to 511 points if she's single.
  3. Continue fishing and caring for your animals.
  4. Confirm your wife's pregnancy.

Congratulations! You have now officially finished every required festival that alters girls affections, outside Star Night and New Years, which we will account for. Since affections don't decay, it's now time to permanently max out Maria and Ellen's scores to get max ranch master score. If you married one of them, skip their section. But you may have noticed they have different max affection scores and we will explain that shortly.

For Ellen, you simply have to get her to 511 affection. We'll need to do some math on that so plug in 511 and subtract your current affection score that's on your rich presence. Get her affection score to within single digits of 511 with her sweets question. If she needs an odd number of affection points, give her an egg for 5 affection points but make sure it's when she's in front of the livestock dealer on a weekday and not behind it on Saturday. If she needs a multiple of 2 affection points, you can tell her "Not Really" when she asks you about sweets for 2 affection points each time until you hit 511. Pause the emulator and give it a few minutes for Retroachievements to update the rich presence on your profile if you're not on RASNES. Confirm her affection is at 511 and you're officially done boosting Ellen's affection for the rest of the game! You never have to interact with Ellen again outside of thanksgiving, if you choose to, as it won't affect her affection. Unless you talk to her accidentally or give her a gift, you're maxed out with her from now on.

For Maria, it's a bit trickier. We need to get her to an affection score of 491. If you got her to 400 even, did her heart event and spoke with her at both festivals and did nothing else, her affection will be at 471. If her affection score is something else, you're going to have to do some math. Cake gives her 3 affection, flowers give her 4, eggs give her 5 and mushrooms give her 5, so long as she's in front of the church. The reason we need her to be at 491 is because of a forced interaction on New Years Day that adds 10 affection points. Since we can't get out of it, we have to account for it and subtract 20 from her max score to account for both years. Eve is the same so she will also need to be brought to 491 in Winter if you aren't married to her. If you are at 471, give her four mushrooms to max her out at 491. She'll hit 511 on New Years Year 3 but congrats on getting her maxed out as well!

Once you've maxed your relationships with Ellen and Maria, continue your routine of fishing. The Fullmoon Berry is no longer growing so we cannot farm that anymore. Keep making money and focus on your cows, brushing and talking to them every day and milking and feeding them once they're grown so they gain affection points.

On the morning of the 14th, talk with your wife. Keep talking with her every morning. Chances are, she will announce her pregnancy on the 14th or 15th. The baby will take 60 days before it is born and for me, this was on Spring 14th. Nothing needs to be done for your wife at this time and she doesn't need additional help or gifts. She'll manage herself and make comments about the baby, asking you about the name and making various comments about her pregnancy. You are free to continue your daily duties and routine though.

If you wish to gain 40 happiness, you can purchase the paint from the tool shop at this time. Equip it from the tool shed, face your house and paint all four segments of it for 10 happiness points each. You may hear your wife talking about doing this but unfortunately, she doesn't notice when you do and may keep bringing it up. It's not necessary but it will give you a nice boost to your happiness.

You'll likely notice the days are going faster and most of your time is spent in the barn tending to the cows. Brace yourself, it's only going to get worse from here. Once winter hits, we will lose access to fishing and there will be nothing to forage so our attention will solely be focused on the remaining bachelorettes and our animals.

On the night of the 19th, be sure to save and back up your save file.

Fall 20:

  1. Win the Egg Festival finding all 5 eggs.
  2. Reset if you don't get all 5 eggs.

Welcome to another festival day! As always, make sure your animals are brushed, fed and talked to prior to the festival or you will not get the opportunity. For this festival, the way it works is there are multiple chests set up through the town. The mayor will task you with finding a specific colored egg. You will have to check all the chests to find which egg is where as it is completely randomized. The kicker though is that if enough time passes, a bell will ring and the mayor will move onto the next egg. If that happens, you will lose out on the achievement for finding all five eggs so you'll want to reset if that happens. This is also the only festival you will be required to do both years for ranch master, once for a power berry, once for the turtle shell. It's random which prize you win each year but you will need both to get the maximum ranch master score.

There are eight total chests you can find. Three will be empty, the rest will contain eggs. If you want to get the achievement, you'll likely want to remember which egg is where once you open the chests. The chests are located as follows:

  1. Take the path to the left of the mayor's house. The chest is against the back wall.
  2. Next to the front door of the mayor's house.
  3. To the right of the church next to the graves.
  4. In the top right corner of the map behind the flower shop and a flower bed.
  5. On the bridge leading back to your farm.
  6. To the left of the fortune teller's house.
  7. In the field behind the livestock dealer's house where Ellen stands on weekends. You will have to jump over the rope to get in there.
  8. Above the bar and slightly to the left. You'll find it if you head directly left from the stairs leading back to the town square.

If you find an empty chest, it will remain empty as will found eggs. If you find the wrong colored egg, it will show it to you and tell you a message about that being the wrong one. If you want, you can also pause the emulator and write down which egg is where if it helps. You will have time to check roughly 3 or 4 chests before the mayor will switch so keep that in mind.

If you don't get all five eggs in one go, reset your game, take care of your animals and try again. You'll eventually get it and unlock the achievement.

Easter in Fall? Find all five eggs in the Egg Hunt 5

You will win the egg festival for sure once you do that even though you don't need all five eggs to win. The prize you receive is random and you will be told to go home and check it. You can win either the turtle shell or the eighth power berry and you'll see which prize you win as you head home and immediately go to bed. The turtle shell is rumored to stop hurricanes but that is a myth and it only affects your ranch master score. Whichever prize you do not win, you will have to earn in Year 2.

Power Berry 8

Win the egg festival. This is randomly given out either in Year 1 or 2.

Fall 21-30:

  1. Wrap up purchasing as many cows as you can. Resume breeding chickens but only feeding one.
  2. Make sure you have enough grass for 40 days of cow feeding.
  3. Use the ending code to check your progress after the 28th.

After winning the festival, we'll continue our daily grind of fishing and purchasing cows. Once you hit the limit, or if you already have, breed chickens but only feed one. We'll need the fodder to get through winter and you should check to see if you have enough for 40 days, which will likely be around 300-400 plus 40 for your one chicken. Again, you really only need 38 days before your grass starts growing again but it's better to be on the safe side and have a little extra. If you do not have enough grass by the 30th, purchase a cow feed kit from the livestock dealer and use it to feed your cows for an extra day or two. You can continue purchasing these to add another day or two if you don't have enough but it's likely this won't be an issue as long as you don't feed your chickens as the livestock dealer won't let you buy more than you can handle.

Around the 28th, we'll use the ending code to check our progress. Since your wife is pregnant, you'll get the following ending and achievement.

Badge Title Description Points
Bringing Up a Baby Get Ending #18: First Child 10

If you've been paying attention to your cows and bought them consistently and early enough, there's a good chance at least one is producing large milk and that you likely have more than 6. I had seven at the end of Fall. You'll unlock both achievements below if you do but if not, you'll definitely get them by Spring Year 2. The first is for having a cow with more than 192 happiness and the second is for having 7 or more cows. This ending will replace the Cow Farmer ending so if you haven't gotten that one yet and you have more than 6 cows, you'll have to reload a backup later to get it or wait until our Happy Bachelor playthrough.

You'll also probably be hovering around the halfway mark on ranch master. If you are, you'll unlock this achievement. If you aren't, don't worry about it yet. Once you get through winter your cows affections will all be maxed out and you'll get 25 points per cow you have which will give you the push you need to get over halfway. You'll also have a lot of money which will further increase your ranch master score.

On the night of Fall 30th, save, backup your file and get ready for Winter.

Winter 1-9

  1. Get your horse on Winter 1st.
  2. Plant the Snow Gem on the mountain for a Power Berry.
  3. Look for the fox on sunny days on the mountain.
  4. Pick a day to get Ann, Nina and Eve to appropriate relationship values, provided you're not married to one of them.
  5. If the earthquake occurs, take your axe to the mountain for a tool upgrade and a power berry.
  6. If the carpenter comes by, let him borrow your hammer and he will return the golden hammer the next day.
  7. Continue focusing on your animals.

Welcome to Winter. This is the most boring season of the game. The mountain is frozen over so you can't fish anymore. There are no forageables to find anywhere. There are only a couple of things to do in winter outside of taking care of your animals.

First of all, on the first day of Winter, take the Snow Gem you purchased way back during the Flower Festival out of the tool shed. It will equip to your active tool slot. Take this and head to the crossroads. On your way to the mountain, you'll encounter a foal and the game will ask you to name it. Do so to unlock the following achievement.

Badge Title Description Points
Hi-Ho [Insert name here], Away! Receive and name your horse 3

There are reports that this may not unlock normally for some people. However, it may be coded to a certain date range. If it doesn't unlock for you, reload your save and see if that helps. Your horse will now take 21 days to grow but requires no maintenance and can't be interacted with until it's fully grown. You can't even brush it if you try unfortunately. But with horse successfully obtained, head up to the mountain and go to the summit.

Head to the visible rock near the top on the right side and use the Snow Gem with your Y button like a tool. If you miss don't worry as it will let you use it as many times as you want until it hits the correct spot. If it continues to fail, reset your game as there's a semi rare glitch that prevents the game from registering you're using it on that spot that fixes itself after a reset. You'll know you did it correctly when a blue flower appears instantly and a fairy shows up. The fairy will thank you for growing the Snow Gem and give you a power berry as well. You'll also earn an achievement.

Power Berry 9

Purchase the Snow Gem from the Flower Festival on Spring 23rd. Plant it in Winter on the mountain summit to get a Power Berry from a fairy.

Before I Wilt... Receive the gift of the Snow Flower 3

With that left, there is only a single power berry left in the game, unless you got the Turtle Shell in the Egg Festival. Next up, if the weather is sunny, head over to the hot springs. Just above it, near the tree stumps, a fox will randomly appear once per day if it is sunny and not a festival day. This will also give you 10 happiness points and you'll want to remember this for the Happy Bachelor playthrough as well. If it's not there, head in and out of the nearby mountain cave until it spawns and you'll unlock an achievement.

Badge Title Description Points
Sly as a Fox See a fox during Winter 1

Once you finish getting that achievement, it's time to finish maxing out our relationships with the bachelorettes for good! Keep in mind if you are married to any of these three bachelorettes, you can safely skip that particular woman. With Winter being boring, you'll have plenty of time to do this as you won't have crops and it will still be 6 AM after taking care of your animals due to the indoor time freeze.

Starting with Ann, she will once again be inside the tool shop on weekdays. Her new question will be "Aren't I acting like a girl?". Answer, "No, not at all". This will add 8 points to her affection. Like in summer, you can run in and out of her room to max her out without losing any time. We want to get her to 511 affection points. If she's at an even relationship number, you'll have to wait until the weekend when she's standing outside to give her cake or an egg for +5 affection. It may take some math to get her there but you can answer "Not That Bad" for +2 affection to inch her to where you need to be once you get her to single digits. Like usual, pause the emulator and give it a few minutes for the RA website to update rich presence if you're not on RASNES so you don't overshoot. Once she's at 511, her affection points are perfect. You can safely interact with her soon on thanksgiving but her affection points are at maximum score for ranch master now.

Nina is again in front of the flower shop. She'll ask you "Do you believe there's a flower which blooms in winter?". Of course, we just grew it! Tell her "Yes" for +8 or "You're kidding?" for +2. If you need to make her affection points an odd number, wait until the weekend when she's on the mountain and give her an egg for +3 affection. Once she's at 511, you're done with Nina too!

For Eve, you can find her in the bar like usual. Because she can be interacted with after hours, you can safely max out all three bachelorettes in one day. However, keep in mind that Eve's score needs to be at 491, not 511 because of the forced interaction at New Years that gives +10 points each year. Instead of a question, Eve will simply give you a drink of 'juice'. Keep talking to her to add +2 affection to her score. If you need to make her affection odd, bring her an egg while she's at the bar. Keep drinking and eventually you'll hit 491 and you'll be done! Every bachelorette will be at perfect range though Maria and Eve will need at least one New Years event to be within the max score range. You'll only have to reduce your wife's affection once she becomes pregnant with your second child and every woman in the game will be in perfect range for maximum points.

With winter being boring, I recommend going to bed as soon as you take care of your animals every day. Chances are, your wife will still be waiting in the house and, unless you are married to Eve, you'll get a +2 affection bonus each day you go to bed with her. With your relationships maxed out and animals not taking any in game time to tend to, there isn't much to do besides go to bed early. Be sure to keep throwing that egg in the incubator when your baby chick hatches and use the rest to get one of the girls to an odd number if they still haven't gotten to where they need to be.

Ultimately, there are two random events that can happen any day in winter that we will want to keep an eye out for. The first is an earthquake. Similar to the event in summer, one day you'll wake up to a loud noise and the carpenter will show up on your property to advise you to check things out. Grab your axe and head up the mountain. You will see, just above the entrance to the mountain, the boulder that blocked the path above us has broken and we can now go in that area. Head there and you'll see a single tree stump and a frozen lake. Hit the frozen lake with your axe and the Harvest Goddess will come out. She will ask you if you dropped the golden axe, similar to the old fable. Tell her 'No' and she'll reward your honesty with the golden axe. Unlike the previous upgrades, this one is immediate and you'll unlock an achievement.

Badge Title Description Points
Death Adder Beware! Receive the Golden Axe from the Harvest Goddess 5

Like the previous golden tools, if you told her yes, you can still get this tool by purchasing it from the tool shop but you will miss the happiness boost. Turn around and use that new axe to obliterate the stump in one hit. It will reveal a hole hidden underneath it. Move into it to fall down into the mountain cave right next to the power berry you've likely seen multiple times already.

Power Berry 10

During Winter, once the earthquake removes the boulder at the mountains, break the stump and fall down the hole. You'll land right next to the final power berry.

If you got all 10 power berries, including the one at the Egg Festival, you'll unlock the following achievement.

Badge Title Description Points
You're Berry Energetic! Eat all ten Power Berries 10

If you got the Turtle Shell, you will unlock this achievement next fall when you win the Egg Festival again. Also keep in mind that you now have to jump in the hot springs 10 times to fully restore your energy. But after grabbing the power berry, head back home to finish your chores or go back to sleep.

The second random event that can happen is having the carpenter come by your farm. On my first playthrough, this didn't happen until nearly the end of winter but on my second it happened the first week so your mileage may vary. Once you leave your house, your character will automatically talk to him and he will ask if he can borrow your hammer. Tell him "Yes" since you're not using it anyway and he will thank you and leave. Again, if you tell him no, he will leave and you can buy the upgrade at the tool shop. The next day, head into the tool shed and pick up the golden hammer he returns to you to get an achievement. A second one will automatically pop if you've gotten all 5 upgraded tools.

Badge Title Description Points
If I Had a Hammer... Upgrade your Hammer to the Golden Hammer 5
Badge Title Description Points
Baby, You're Golden Have all of your tools upgraded and stored in your shed 10

You now have all of the upgraded tools in the game! The golden hammer, like the axe, will take out a large rock in one hit. We should already have our fields cleared of them but it's still a cool upgrade.

As you continue brushing, talking to and milking your cows, you'll notice a lot of them will start producing large milk. In fact, as long as you bought your cows early enough, they all should be by the end of winter. If you want to save some time, once a cow starts producing large milk, brush them and talk to them for 5 more days and you can safely stop brushing and talking to that cow as it will be in the max score range of affection with a small buffer. You can continue brushing it for a few more days if you want to totally max it out but it's not necessary and it will save you a lot of time. However, despite making a happy face, milking does not increase cow affection. So if you accidentally miss a day of feeding, which I'd recommend loading a backup save over since it hits your happiness, brush and talk to them for four days to make up for it, since it will -15 affection points from your cow if you forget to feed them. Another thing of note is that this game will not show any signs of missed feedings, unlike sequels, and your cows will continue producing milk and acting normally unless you miss multiple days and they start getting sick.

With multiple cows producing large milk, you'll be raking in the gold. Even with just three large milk producing cows, you'll be bringing home 1050g per day not counting any additional revenue from eggs or other cows. If you have six, you'll be taking home 2100g per day. Coupled with your fall earnings you'll very likely earn the following achievement at this point in Winter.

Badge Title Description Points
Wheat & Wealth Earn 50,000g 10

Again, don't worry if you're not there yet. Once you get a full barn, you'll get this achievement easily. For reference, I had 7 cows in winter and by the end of it I had over 100,000g ready for Spring. We eventually want to get over 100,000g anyway for ranch master and having a full barn of cows makes this relatively easy.

Because there's not much to do, keep an eye out for these random events, keep caring for the cows and breeding chickens and you'll zoom through these early days pretty quickly.

Winter 10

  1. Take care of your animals as usual.
  2. Head to town for Thanksgiving festival and talk to each of the girls for an achievement and happiness boost.
  3. Talk to your wife for a happiness boost.
  4. Go to bed early.

Winter 10th is Thanksgiving festival though the game doesn't treat it like a normal festival. Rather than being like American thanksgiving, this is actually an approximation of Japanese Valentine's Day where girls give guys they like chocolates. Instead of chocolate though, we're gonna get cakes. Take care of your animals and head into town.

While you're in town, look around for all the girls. Even though you're married, you can still get cakes from the bachelorettes so talk to each of the girls and they will give you cakes to show their appreciation. Each cake you receive is +10 happiness and if you talk to all four bachelorettes, you'll get +40 happiness. You'll also earn an achievement.

Badge Title Description Points
A Happy "Thanks" Giving Have a Cake baked for you by one of the single girls 3

Head back home and find your wife. She's likely still hanging out in the house. She'll give you a cake as well but this one will add +30 happiness instead of +10 for a total happiness of +70 on the day. Head to bed for an affection boost unless you're married to Eve. If you're married to Eve, this season will be rough for you as you'll take a huge hit to her affection this month. Give her your eggs on non breeding days from the one chicken you're feeding to make up for it. Unfortunately, we've still got a lot of Winter to get through.

Winter 11-23

  1. Take care of your animals as usual.
  2. Keep an eye out for the random events.
  3. Go to bed early for affection boosts if you're not married to Eve.
  4. Optional: Give Eve additional gifts if you're married to her to keep her affection above 650.
  5. Receive your saddlebags on the 22nd.

These days will likely zoom past as all there really is to do is take care of your animals, watch for the random events if they haven't happened yet and go back to bed. Keep heading to bed early though to skip through the day or go to the mountain to look for the monkey in the spa or the fox for happiness boosts if you like. If you're married to Eve, keep giving her eggs to offset her affection losses this season on the days you're not throwing them in the incubator.

On the 22nd, Ann's dad will visit your farm and he will inform you that your horse has grown up and gives you a free pair of saddlebags to celebrate. This item acts as a mobile shipping bin so you can ride your horse to your crops and throw them into the saddlebags to have them count as shipping...mostly. But we'll get to that caveat in Spring. If you for some reason didn't get your horse on the 1st day of Winter, you'll have to wait 21 days from the day you got them before you receive the saddlebags.

Winter 24

  1. Spend Star Night Festival with your wife.

On the morning of Winter 24th, you'll awaken and immediately face a dialogue prompt box with no option to tend to your farm. Don't panic, this is one of the few times the game will skip an entire day but your animals will be taken care of as if you tended to them. It's assumed the harvest sprites take care of your animals for you but either way, they will be fed even though you aren't able to interact with them today.

The game will ask you where you want to spend Star Night Festival and each choice has a different woman waiting for you. Some choices are obvious, such as Maria being at the Church or Eve being at the Bar. You'll want to pick the location that your wife is at which will give you a +30 boost to affection. If you choose a different girl, you will take a hit to your wife's affection points. Below, you'll find a chart of where each girl is so be sure to choose the location where your wife is.

Location Who's There
Public Square Ellen
Mountain Top Nina
Church Maria
Spa Ann
Bar Eve

Once you go choose, it will be night time. Head to your wife and talk to her to get a specialized event. Like most festivals, you will automatically transition to the next morning afterward. You'll also unlock an achievement.

Winter 25-30

  1. Take care of animals.
  2. Watch for events if you haven't got them.
  3. Check your endings on the night of the 28th.

The rest of the season is continuing to tend to your animal and keeping an eye out for any remaining events to happen, most likely the carpenter borrowing your hammer if they haven't already done so. On the night of the 28th, we will check our progress by inputting the ending code per usual. It's very likely won't get any new endings yet, unless you hadn't gotten the cow affection ending yet, but your ranch master score will likely be a lot higher because of your money and the increase in your cows affection points. If you missed any of the endings listed in Fall, you'll unlock them here. At this point, I also unlocked the following achievement.

Badge Title Description Points
Make Thousands When the Sun Shines Earn 100,000g 10

With the money achievements, just a reminder they need to be unlocked with how much you have on hand as they are not cumulative. If you haven't unlocked it yet, you will certainly do so in Spring as you're about to make tons of money. We will be spending a lot of our Fall and Winter savings to buy lots of grass and crop seeds and also get the rest of our cows and chickens. Once you have 12 cows producing large milk, you'll be making 4200g per day just from cows which is 126,000g per season. Since we're shooting for 511 shipped of each Spring crop before the end of the next season, we'll also be raking in the money from that as well.

Surprisingly, Winter 30th is not a festival and New Years is instead celebrated on Spring 1st. Once you're ready, save, go to bed and back up your save.

Spring 1-2 Year 2

  1. Celebrate New Years.
  2. Buy the money tree.
  3. Sell a cow to get magic beans.
  4. Use the beans on the mountain to reach a golden chicken.
  5. Sleep without saving and head outside to unlock an achievement.
  6. Optional: sleep without saving to find out when your child is born.
  7. Reset and purchase a bunch of turnip, potato and grass seeds to plant.

On the morning of Spring 1st, you'll wake up automatically to watch the sunrise. Like Star Night Festival, you will spend the entire day at the festival so you won't be able to take of your animals but they will act as though you had. You'll automatically be transported to the mountain summit.

Once there, you'll have to talk to everyone in order to progress. Maria and Eve will be there and talking to them gives you a forced +10 affection points, which is why we only got them up to 491 to account for both years. The fortune teller will also offer to read your fortune. The drawing will affect your happiness score so determine if you want to risk it or not. If you get a draw of excellent luck, you'll get +30 happiness. Normal luck is +10 happiness. Misfortune will net you -20 happiness. You can tell her you don't want to try if you'd like which won't affect your happiness score. We'll be resetting and doing this over again after getting a couple achievements so don't worry about save scumming to get a good fortune. Once you talk to everyone, the sun will rise and you'll be told not to work for the rest of the day. You will go home and go to bed, waking up on Spring 2nd and unlocking an achievement.

When you walk out of your house, the Hawker will show up and offer to sell you a money tree. This happens when you have more than 30,000g after Year 2. Pay him for the money tree which will be delivered to your farm the next day. Normally, we wouldn't want this item but there's an achievement for getting it and we will be resetting after getting it.

Next, head to the town and tell the livestock dealer you want to sell a cow. Grab the bell from your tool shed and bring one of your adult cows to the front of the farm. Like with the power berry in Fall, once you get the cow in position, walk around until the Hawker shows up again. This time, he'll offer to trade you some Magic Beans for the cow in a reference to Jack and the Beanstalk. Tell him yes and he'll take the cow and put the magic beans in your tool shed. Go grab them and you'll notice it's actually a single magic bean.

Head to the mountain and go to the summit. Like the Snow Gem, you'll need to plant this in the visible rock. Like with the Snow Gem, you will not lose this item until it plants successfully. It also can sometimes glitch and not plant successfully, even when you use it in the correct spot. If that's the case, sleep without saving and try again the next day. Once you've successfully planted the magic beans, leave the summit and come back to find that a massive beanstalk has grown. Climb up it and you'll arrive in a cloudy castle with a golden chicken. Talk to the golden chicken and they'll ask you if you work hard. Tell it that you do and it will reward you with a golden egg. Head through the open window behind the chicken and you'll be automatically transported to the peddler who will beg you to sell him the golden egg and give you 10,000g for it. Unfortunately, we're not keeping the money but it will unlock an achievement.

Head back to the farm and head to bed without saving. When you walk out the next morning, head to the right and check near your barn. You've been swindled! Instead of a money tree, the Hawker planted a bell tree near your barn. This tree allows you to call all of your cows inside when you have them out. However, since we are not bringing our cows outside, we won't be needing this item and we have a lot better uses for that money. You will unlock an achievement once you find the 'money tree'.

Not Quite What You Bargained For Obtain the Money Tree 5

Before resetting and starting over from New Years, lets find out when our first child will be born. If you're like me and your wife got pregnant in mid Fall at the earliest possible time, the child will be born on Spring 14th. However, just to confirm, we are going to sleep without saving until the priest blocks the doorway. Make note of this date because we will be planning our crop rotations to ensure we hit 511 of each crop this season. Once you're certain of the date of your child, reset your game and reload your save from Spring 1st, or restore the backup if you accidentally saved. We want to keep the money we spent from the money tree and we want to keep the cow we sold and restore the days we missed checking when our child is born. Go through New Year's again and feel free to attempt to get a good fortune if you want. We will be getting 360 happiness on Summer 25th or 26th, assuming that's your anniversary with your wife, so it likely won't affect your happiness too much if you want to try.

At this time, it's time to do some math. We want to hit exactly 511 turnips and potatoes shipped this season so we don't have to grow crops in Year 3. If you plant each crop on Spring 2nd, you will have seven harvests of turnips on days 6, 10, 14, 18, 22, 26 and 30, not counting extra that you can plant on Spring 30th into Summer if you need to. For potatoes, you will only have 4 yields this season on days 8, 14, 20 and 26.

For me, I had shipped 120 of each crop. So to test our math, we'll take 511 and minus our total crops shipped so far. For me, I had 391 crops needed of each to ship this season. Divide this by 8, which is the number of crops we get from each bag of seeds, and you get 48 and some change. This means I had to buy a minimum of 49 bags of turnips and potatoes each to max out my ranch master score this season but I bought around 60 just in case. Next, we will be calculating how many bags we have to harvest each time minimum to make these goals. Divide your number of bags by 7 for turnips and 4 for potatoes. For me, this number ended up being roughly 7 bags of turnips each harvest and roughly 13 bags of potatoes each crop. Of course, we'll be doing a few extra just in case.

Go to the store and purchase your seeds based on your math plus extra. I purchased 60 of each seed despite only needing 49. You'll also want to purchase 50-60 seeds of grass but you can buy more if you want, just be sure to save some money for cows. We'll also be returning to night time planting, watering and grass harvesting so keep an eye on your wife's affection levels and ensure they're still above 650. Once our child is born, she'll have 31 days until she announces her second pregnancy if she's above this threshold so we want to ensure we're maintaining and accounting for our upcoming late nights.

At night, plant a few extra bags of each crop. Remember, you can leave fully grown crops overnight and harvest them the next day and the numbers we crunched earlier were for our minimum harvests so having a few extra plots won't hurt. For the most part, your tilled soil should still be there after winter but you may have to retill a few areas, especially with the volume we're planning. You'll likely run into a new problem now: the golden hoe. Unlike the regular hoe, the golden hoe tills six squares straight ahead meaning we can't optimize our crop layouts. Instead, what we need to do is roughly till the 3x3 square we want, grab a piece of wood from your wood shed behind your house and throw it on top of any tilled squares you want to remove until you have your optimal patterns. You can also throw the piece of wood down where you want the edge to be and when you till towards it, the wood will stop it from tilling any squares past it. However, it's still inconvenient and you'll have to work around it for planting crops.

After planting my crops, I ended up planting 10 bags of turnips and 16 bags of potatoes. We'll be cutting it close on some days but as long as we're over the minimum goal, we can always wait until the next day, especially since Spring crops can roll over into Summer if necessary. Once you've tilled and planted all of what you need to plant to hit your goals, throw your wood fence back into the pond.

Next up, we will want to plant our grass. This is where the golden hoe shines as we can successfully till enough spaces in three swings for two bags of grass. We will want to plant as much grass as possible along the top and right edge of the farm. Our long term goal is to cover the entirety of the farm in grass to max out our development rate but because grass cannot be removed once planted, we will be keeping some space for our crops until we hit 511 shipped for each of them. Try to fill the entire upper area near the power berry planter and the entire right side of the farm near the wall as we won't be planting many crops over there. You may run out of grass seeds and that's fine if you do. We'll be getting more this season and in summer to continue our project but starting early will not only boost our development rate but also allow us to purchase the maximum amount of animals.

Once your seeds are planted and watered and you've planted your grass seeds, head to bed and save. Back up this save too.

Spring 3-13 Year 2

  1. Buy a cow daily when it's not raining.
  2. Purchase more grass seeds and plant them at night.
  3. Resume feeding your chickens on Spring 10th when your grass comes in.
  4. Harvest your turnips and potatoes each day, replanting them each night.

Now that we've planted all those grass packets, we should have more than enough grass that the livestock dealer will allow us to purchase more cows. However, he is stingy and won't sell you more than one animal per day and won't sell any when it's raining. Every weekday it's sunny, head to town and purchase a cow until you have all 12. Be forewarned this will make your barn lag to single digit frames per second but it's necessary for ranch master. You'll also want to resume brushing and talking to your new cows if you stopped.

On Spring 6th, your first batch of turnips will come in. Take care of your animals first so you can ship those products too and head back outside. Grab your horse or whistle for him with the R button then head to the nearest crop group. With the saddlebags, we can harvest a lot more per day since we no longer have to run all the way to the shipping bin so be sure to utilize your horse as much as possible. Be aware though that for some odd reason, occasionally the saddlebags won't move when you toss the turnips in. If this happens, the crop did not count towards shipping which is partially why we're buying extra bags and planting extra crops. I've found running into the horse with B while throwing it tends to make this happen less but it still can happen occasionally, usually when the horse starts to wander. When it does, this can mess up your rhythm or cause you to throw your crop accidentally on the ground too but it seem as running straight into them with your crop tends to make them freeze. You'll start to recognize these quirks but they're something to be mindful of. You can also attempt to call it to your position using the R button but it will only run at you in a straight line and get caught on crops so it's best to ride it into position where you need it and move when you get to a new crop group. However, despite these flaws, it's still recommended to use the horse as you can harvest much more even with the potential losses and it really accelerates work flow. Keep throwing crops in until the shipper shows up. For turnips, you'll likely get all of them in time. For potatoes, it'll be cutting it close but there's a possibility you will get them all.

If you managed to get most of the crops shipped, pat yourself on the back as these harvests are a lot of work. It's natural to miss out on a few crops. On average, I was missing 2-5 crops per harvest due to the horse moving or not counting crops. But if it's excessive, such as losing 15 or more per harvest, feel free to reset and try the day over. If you have any leftover crops, save them for the next day's harvest. When you replant your harvests, you'll want to till new squares and plant an additional bag of seeds for each group that's left behind to keep your targets. So, if you left behind 4 groups of potatoes, till an extra 4 areas to cover those 4 that were missed. This will ensure you still have enough by the end of the month and the ones left behind will count as extras towards our goal.

You should also purchase additional grass seeds and, if you like, extra turnip and potato seeds just in case if you're worried about running out. Continue planting grass in areas that you don't grow crops in but make sure you have enough space near the turnips and potatoes to add a few extra plots just in case.

On Spring 10th, all of the grass you planted the previous year will come in at once. At this point, you should go back to feeding your chickens daily as fodder will no longer be a concern as on the 12th, all of the bags grass we planted on the 2nd will come in which will quickly fill our fodder reserves. We want to get 12 adult chickens by Summer 25th or 26th laying eggs. If you've already got 12 cows, you can start buying chickens daily if you don't want to wait for the chicks to grow up. The milk we're selling will more than make up for the 1000g loss so feel free to buy as many chickens as it takes to fill up your coop.

Once you're ready, head to bed on the 13th, save and back up your save file.

Spring 14 Year 2

  1. Take care of your daily chores.
  2. Visit your wife at the end of the day to name your first child.

When Spring 14th rolls around, you'll notice the priest is blocking the door to your farm. The date of your child's birth may be different but if you had high affection and the second house upgrade in time, Spring 14th will be when your child is born. Talk to everyone and they'll inform you that your child is being born and you'll be a father soon. Talk to your wife and she'll tell you to go work on the farm. You can choose Really? which will allow you to take care of your daily chores. Choosing "No, no..." will let you stay by your wife's side for 50 affection points, but you'll miss all the work and take a huge hit to happiness from not feeding your cows. There are no negative repercussions from choosing to work but there are a lot from staying by her side so head outside and start your chores.

You'll likely notice both of your crops came in today. Take care of your animals and focus only on your potatoes as they're more important. This will delay your turnips by a day but it won't affect us in the long run. With our harvesting schedule, we'll be completely done with turnips soon anyway so leaving a full harvest for the next day will be fine. Harvest your potatoes, replant your crops and water them, using any extra spaces to ensure you have enough planted in case you left some behind. Cut any grass you left behind and once you're done, head into the house and your wife will be holding your baby and will ask you to name them. The game will tell you the gender but always refer to it as "him". Regardless of that, the gender isn't referred to again so feel free to name them whatever you like. You'll unlock an achievement and you'll go straight to bed.

Spring 15-30 Year 2

  1. Carefully monitor your crop numbers to ensure you hit 511 exactly and stop shipping after that.
  2. Ensure you have 12 cows and 12 chickens by the end of the month.
  3. Make sure your wife's affection is over 650 and maintain it.
  4. Check your scores with the ending trick after the 28th.

When you wake up, you can interact with your child who is sleeping in the crib to pick them up. Despite your wife asking you to do this occasionally, this doesn't give you any happiness points or boost to affection so you can safely skip it. It's more for roleplaying purposes.

As you get closer to hitting your goals, keep an eye on your crop levels with rich presence! For turnips, you'll likely be getting really close around the harvests on the 19th or 23rd. Start making save backups as you get close and you'll want to calculate exactly how many you have to harvest to hit your goals. For example, if you need 44 more turnips, you will want to harvest 5 and a half plots which will put you at maximum. Once you get above the 500 crop threshold, keep checking rich presence until you hit 511 exactly. Congrats! You never have to ship another turnip again! Feel free to gift any remaining turnips to your wife to raise her affection as all possible wives like turnips. Or, if you like, you can throw them on the ground or sickle them to clear your field.

For your potatoes, you'll likely be close around the harvest on the 20th. Like with turnips, back up your saves, do some math to figure out how many you have left to harvest and keep checking your rich presence on the 26th to ensure you're not going over 511. Once you hit it exactly, you're done with Spring crops for the rest of the game! Again, feel free to give these to your wife or throw them on the ground if you're so inclined. Just ensure your tilled squares are cleared by the 1st of Summer. If you still haven't gotten them to 511 by the end of Spring, feel free to plant however many you still need to carry into Summer. Our goal is to finish crops this year so we don't have to play a third year but make sure you don't go over 511 or you'll have to load a backup to get ranch master!

The shipper will come by on the 22nd to remind you of the Flower Festival on the 23rd but we don't need to go to that. If you didn't get the Snow Gem for some reason or the perfume achievement, you can go to it but you will get forced affection with the girls so be sure to give them weeds to make up for it and bring them back to 511.

You'll also want to make sure that we have the full amount of 12 cows and 12 chickens by the end of Summer. This will ensure our cows all have max affection by Fall and we have enough chickens to max our ranch master score and get enough eggs for our anniversary. Purchase any remaining cows you need and then focus on purchasing chickens if you're not already maxed out. Once you have 12 each, you'll unlock the following achievement:

As usual, save and back up your save on Spring 30th before going into Summer. Make sure you've planted any Spring crops you still need going into Summer and prepare yourself. We're heading back into hurricane season.

Summer 1-24 Year 2

  1. Resume daily save backups.
  2. Calculate the amount of crops you need for tomatoes and corn.
  3. Continue purchasing grass and planting it.
  4. Ensure your wife is still well above 650 affection points and correct if necessary.

Welcome back to Summer. Check the TV to ensure a hurricane isn't coming and reload your back up if it is. Like with Spring, we need to calculate the crops we have remaining. I had 166 tomatoes and 144 corn shipped going into Summer Year 2. If we plant tomatoes on the first and corn on the second to stagger like last year, everything will end up perfect. Tomato harvests will be on the 10th, 13th, 16th, 19th, 22nd, 25th and 28th. Corn will be on the 14th, 17th, 20th, 23rd, 26th and 29th. By doing the math, I found I needed to plant roughly 10 bags each so I ended up doing 12. Like before, you can leave any excess to the next day but the main tomato and corn harvests should come first before you worry about any stragglers.

Remember, hurricanes will impede your progress and mess with your goals so be sure to redo days and reload backups if you see a hurricane projected on the TV for the next day. Remember too that the Turtle Shell will not protect you against hurricanes despite many popular rumors so even if you won that in first year, keep daily backups and restore them if necessary.

During this time, you'll want to continue purchasing and planting grass seeds. Unlike Spring where we had to leave room for additional crops, Summer crops regrow and don't need additional plantings so you can plant grass around the crops if you like. We will be covering the entire farm in grass by the end of the month once our crop goals are hit and we no longer have to worry about them.

Harvesting takes a bit longer this season than in Spring because your crops stay planted and you'll have to reposition the horse carefully. However, their constant regrowth make hitting our targets much easier, especially if you planted extra. In fact, chances are, you probably will be done with tomatoes around the middle of the month since each yield will give you 96 total crops if you planted 12 plots, as long as your horse cooperates. This means you can hit your goal in roughly 4 to 5 harvests. Similarly, corn will also give you 96 per harvest if you planted 12 plots so you'll probably hit your goal around the 23rd or 26th. Like before, as you get close, check your rich presence and calculate how much of each crop you need to hit 511 so you don't overshoot. Keep checking your rich presence until you hit 511 and you're done with that crop! You can use them as extra gifts but once you're completely done with crops, cut them all down with your sickle and start planting grass there. Once you have 511 corn and tomatoes, we're officially done growing crops for the rest of the game. You'll also unlock an achievement once you reach 500 with both crops.

Another big goal is to make sure your wife is well above the 650 affection point threshold. When you purchase grass seeds at the shop, check where your wife's affection levels are at with rich presence. If she's 680 or above, you're golden. If you've been giving her your extra crops, chances are she's well above where she needs to be. Around the middle of the month, most likely Summer 15th or 16th, your wife will announce her second pregnancy. Once that happens, you can officially stop worrying about your wife's affection points until Fall when we intentionally drop them!

Make sure all of your chickens are being fed at this time and you're getting all 12 eggs as we head into Summer 25th or 26th, depending on your anniversary date. Chances are, with all those chickens, some of them will be sitting on top of eggs and be stuck so move your chickens around to look for the final ones if you can't find them.

On the night of Summer 24th, as usual, save, check the weather and back up your save if the weather is good.

Summer 25-26 Year 2

  1. Bombard your wife with eggs to max out happiness.
  2. Finish your chores and back up your save if the weather is good.

If you didn't get married on the 25th, replace this with the date of your anniversary. If you married Nina, delay this until the 26th of Summer. Once you wake up, immediately head to the chicken coop and grab an egg and give it to your wife. She'll mention she's happy you remembered your anniversary and this single gift will give you a whopping +30 happiness points. Go the coop and give her the remaining 11 eggs. You'll wind up getting +360 happiness from eggs alone. If you have any extra crops that you've hit 511 on, you can give her these too but the eggs will very likely be all you need to max out your happiness.

It's worth noting too that once today is over, you can resume not feeding your chickens at this point if you want to save time. The 600g we get from the eggs can help but we likely have more money than we know what to do with thanks to all the crops and large milk we get from cows. We also only need to have 99,840g for max ranch master score so anything above that is extra. It's up to you but not feeding chickens will save a lot of time over the next month.

Take care of any remaining chores, head to bed, check the weather and back up your save.

Summer 27-30 Year 2

  1. Ensure you have 511 tomatoes and corn shipped and take care of any last shipments you need.
  2. Buy tons of grass and plant it all ensuring you're at 100% development rate before the end of the season.
  3. Check your endings on the night of the 28th to ensure you hit these goals and get a few new endings.

As we wrap up Summer, we'll want to ensure we hit our two main goals. If you haven't hit your goal of 511 each crop, use the last few harvests to hit your goal and sickle them once you're done. Immediately head to the flower shop and purchase as much grass as you can muster and spend an entire night plowing your field and planting grass in any remaining spots. Till every possible square and plant grass in them, even if it's just one or two small tiles. If you have not met your crop goals and you still need to grow them in Year 3, do NOT do this or you will not be able to remove the grass to grow additional crops. Otherwise, our goal is to get 100% development rate before the end of Summer. You can use the ending code early if you like to check your development rate and ensure you're at 100%. But the ending achievements won't unlock until at least the night of the 28th. On that night, per usual, use the ending code and you'll get four new endings and a few achievements including one for 100% development rate. You'll get the endings for shipping 200+ corn and tomatoes as well as the ending for having a second child and for having a happy family.

You'll notice your happiness is at 999 and your highest cow affection should be at 255. If it isn't, feel free to brush your cows for a few more days to get it there. We will be getting another happiness boost in Fall that will likely push you over the edge if you're not at maximum happiness. Your ranch master score will also be close to maximum, likely in the 950s. You should have money hand over fist at this point, your cows should mostly be producing large milk, outside of maybe one or two, and we should have max scores from all the crops and bachelorettes with 511, outside of a possible Maria and Eve who are at 501 but still in maximum score range. We should have all power berries or close with the Turtle Shell, all house upgrades and the only thing left to focus on for a maximum score will be maxing our cow's affections, lowering our wife's affection and winning the final prize from the Egg Festival. After this, we will have our maximum 999 ranch master score. All of these can be obtained in Fall Year 2.

If you didn't get the Happy Family ending but have 999 happiness and all ten power berries, you probably haven't picked up your dog enough. You need to hug him 100 times to get this ending. If you got the Turtle Shell from the Egg Festival, you won't get it as it requires all 10 power berries but you'll get it at the end of Fall when we win the Egg Festival a second time.

Use the final days to ensure you're at 100% development rate and avoid hurricanes. Once you're certain you've achieved these, head into Fall and back up your save.

Fall 1-19 Year 2

  1. Continue taking care of animals.
  2. Go to the mountain for an event and an achievement.

Welcome back to Fall. Now that we have a development rate of 100%, if you have more than 100,000g and all of your cows are producing large milk, you can stop milking them and simply feed them each day to save additional time. If they're not quite at large milk yet, continue brushing them and talking to them until they reach large milk then you can stop after five more days.

There is a new event that only starts in Fall of Year 2 and we need to choose all the correct options to get an achievement. Head to the mountain and look for a rabbit near the mountain cave. It won't run away so check it with the A button to start the event. Eve's grandpa will run up to you, telling you that rabbit is his and you'll be able to choose one of two different options. Tell him "Let it Loose" as telling him you're "Just Watching" will subtract happiness points and the event will end without giving you the achievement. He will tell you he will let the rabbit go if you pay him 1000g. You won't actually have to pay but be sure to tell him that you will or you will not gain any happiness or the achievement. After you tell him you will pay, he will tell you he won't charge you and that you've got a good heart, letting the rabbit loose. You'll get a +50 happiness boost if you're not already maxed out and you'll get an achievement too. This can also be done in Winter but only in or after Year 2.

Since there's really nothing else for us to do, you can head to bed early once your animals are taken care of to pass the time until the Egg Festival. If you need money for whatever reason, the Fullmoon Berry starts growing on the 10th through the 12th. You will want to ignore the Harvest Festival this year too since we no longer need the affection points. Once you get to the night of Fall 19th, save, back up your save and prepare for the Egg Festival.

Fall 20 Year 2

  1. Win the final prize at the Egg Festival.

In order to get maximum ranch master score, you will need to attend and win this festival for the second year in a row. Feed your cows and run to town square. You don't have to get all of the eggs this time, just a majority of them. If you need a refresher on where the treasure chests are, consult the below list. Remember, you can pause your emulator and take notes on which chest contains which egg if you need to.

If you don't win, reload your save from the previous night, take care of your cows and repeat the festival until you win. You will win whichever prize you didn't get the first year and unlock either the final power berry or the Turtle Shell.

Fall 21-28 Year 2

  1. Continue feeding animals.
  2. On the night of the 28th, lower your wife's affection to 511.
  3. Get a maximum Ranch Master Score using the ending trick.

If you've been following along with this guide, you'll have nearly everything you need already to get a maximum ranch master score. Both house upgrades completed, being married, your first child being born, your wife being pregnant with your second child, 12 cows with affection over 200, 12 chickens, 999 happiness, over 100,000g, the clock, the Turtle Shell, a maxed out development rate of 100%, all crops at 511 and every bachelorette within range of max score, most at 511. There's only one thing left to do and that's to drop our wife's affection rate. It needed to be at 650 to get a second child but once she's pregnant, you can safely drop her affection score to the 511 range. So let's do that on the 28th so we can get the achievement and become a ranch master.

Run to town on the 28th and wait in town until 6 PM. This will give you enough time to see what your wife's current affection rate is on rich presence. Now, we need to drop it to 511 or 510 depending on if her affection score is even or odd. Take your wife's current affection score, minus 511 or 510 from it and divide it by 2. That is how many times you will need to run in and out of the house at night. For me, it was at 74 times. Run back to the farm and each time you enter and exit the house, you'll -2 affection points from your wife. Try to keep count of how many times you've done so and when you're close, head back to town to confirm her affection points. You want her to be at either at 512 or 513 so that when you head in for bed for the night, it will drop her perfectly to 510 or 511. From there, go back in your farm, save and perform the ending trick.

You will go through all the endings, which you should have already gotten, and if everything worked out, you will get a ranch master score of 999! Congratulations, you've just accomplished the hardest achievement of the game and one of the toughest things to do in Harvest Moon for Super Nintendo! Despite the achievement description, you can get any score above or equal to 994 to unlock this achievement.

Master Rancher Finish the game with the maximum ranch master score of 994 25

If you're off by a few points, chances are your cows are slightly below maximum points despite producing large milk which is what happened to me. Brush your cows and talk to them for a day and you'll earn those points and get to maximum. Back up this save and label it "Ranch Master" on the folder. This will allow you to continue your maxed out save till the end if you wish. But going forward, we're going to play sloppier to get the final achievements of the run before we start our second run.

Remainder of Year 2

  1. Skip forward until our second child is born in Winter.
  2. Skip forward until New Years on Spring 1st.

Now that we've successfully obtained maximum ranch master score, we can directly skip the remaining days by sleeping immediately to get the last two achievements of this playthrough. If you don't want to see sad cutscenes, sell your cows at the livestock dealer before you go straight to bed. As you skip forward to get the final achievements, your cows will get sick from not eating and possibly die, which leads to a sad cutscene where you cry over the grave of your cow and the livestock dealer chews you out. If you want to skip seeing that cutscene over and over, sell off your cows so you don't have to worry about feeding them or seeing them die. If you don't mind, go straight to bed and skip forward until Winter. However, if you still need crops for ranch master, you'll have to keep your cows and continue taking care of them until Year 3.

At some point in Winter, you'll see the priest blocking the doorway again. Talk to your wife and tell her you'll stay with her this time. After a short wait inside, she'll have the baby. Again, it will tell you the gender and only refer to them as male so name them however you please to unlock the next achievement.

Once you've named your second child, the day will immediately end. From here, resume going right back to bed and sleep until Spring 1st. You'll be forced to complete Star Night festival again but choose your wife and resume sleeping. Complete the New Years Festival on Spring 1st and when you wake up, you'll unlock the final achievement of this run for working two years. If you've already achieved maximum ranch master score, we're officially done with this playthrough and you can skip to section 4 to resume the guide. If you still need crops, development score or happiness, continue into Year 3.

Year 3 - Optional

  1. If you already got ranch master, you're done. Skip to the next section.
  2. If you're not, use year 3 to finish up your crops and development score.

Year 3 is entirely optional if you're playing for achievements and should only be played if you're missing crops, development score or happiness for maximum ranch master score. If you're still not at max ranch master score, we'll be using Year 3 as a clean up for anything you're missing.

If you still need crops, plant the crops you need in spring and summer until you have 511 of each and keep an eye on rich presence to ensure you hit it exactly. You will still need to take care of your cows daily during this time to ensure their affection points don't drop nor does your happiness. Once you have all crops at 511, focus on planting grass everywhere to get a 100% development score. Ensure you also fill in holes left by winter too. Once that's done, you can either coast until the 28th to do the ending trick and get the ranch master score or wait until the natural end of the game in Summer of Year 3. Be sure to give your wife additional gifts on your second anniversary if you're missing happiness score but run in and out of the house after 6 PM to drop her affection back down to the 496-511 range afterwards. Once you get ranch master, congrats! Back up your save in a folder labeled "Ranch Master" so you can continue it later on if you want, unless you got it at the natural conclusion of the game. We still have a bunch of achievements left though so let's move onto the next section.

4) Reloading for Bachelorette Achievements

Summer 25 Year 1

Go into your save backup folder and find the save backup we made on Summer 25th. We want to copy this save file into our emulator's save folder and overwrite our current save with it. Be sure to backup your current save file if you still want to have it later on! Once you load in, ensure your save shows Summer 25th. You will have the blue feather and all bachelorettes are eligible for marriage at this point so we will be marrying the four bachelorettes we didn't choose the first time and getting their applicable endings on the 28th with the ending code. Be sure not to save your game when you go to sleep so you can easily reset each time without having to reload your backup save. Once you've married a new bachelorette and unlocked their ending achievement on the 28th, reset your game and propose to the next bachelorette. Continue doing so until you've successfully married all five bachelorettes and received their appropriate endings. You'll unlock the following achievements that you were missing.

Now that we have those endings, we've got another partial playthrough to do, this time as a single bachelor.

5) Happy Bachelor Ending Walkthrough

Goal and Loading Spring 3 Year 1 Backup

For this achievement, we will need to play though the game a second time but go about it pretty much the complete opposite of how we played ranch master. In order to get this achievement, we will have to get over 800 happiness while being single. Unfortunately, most of the happiness points in this game is tied to family events that only happen through marriage but there are additional ways to increase our happiness as a bachelor. We will be farming happiness with the forest animals for +10 each in Spring and Winter, if you haven't gotten the ending by Fall. We will be breeding each cow instead of buying them since each baby cow is +70 happiness and we still need that achievement as well. We will be buying chickens instead of hatching them because there's a +10 happiness boost from buying and only a +5 for breeding them. We will want to upgrade our house for a +50 and +100 boost to happiness respectfully. We will want to get the power berries as each is worth +10 happiness. We will want to get the golden tools for +20 happiness for each successful event. And we will want to win the Egg Festival again for either a +80 boost with the Turtle Shell or +30 for the power berry. We won't be focusing on the bachelorettes this time but if we still haven't gotten the achievement by Fall, we will detour and boost them up slightly just for the +50 boost on Thanksgiving. Be sure to avoid their diaries if you were checking them to begin with as each check is -1 happiness and you can see their affection rates on Rich Presence.

To ensure we don't have to start completely over, we have several backups that we can reload. For the best opportunity, I recommend reloading from our Spring 3rd backup and replacing our current save with it, after backing it up if you like. That way, our field is cleared, we can start going for the squirrel boosts, we already have 4 power berries and will start fresh with cows. We also will start with 50 happiness due to receiving our dog and the 4 power berries and we won't have to go through the trouble of clearing our field or chopping wood for our first house upgrade. If you like, you can start from our Summer 25th slot that we've been playing, which has a good amount of happiness, but you won't be able to farm as many cow pregnancies because we had already started buying lots of cows and taking hits to our happiness when we sold chickens. It's ultimately up to you but for the sake of the walkthrough, we'll be reloading our Spring 3rd save.

Spring Goals

  1. Dig up 5th Power Berry for +10 happiness.
  2. Farm happiness at the mountain while fishing.
  3. Work towards getting 5000g for our first house upgrade.
  4. Purchase additional seeds and grass to get ready for cows and chickens.

When you load up your save file from Spring 3rd, we will have roughly 750 happiness to farm for that final ending. This will mostly come from breeding cows and farming wild animals but there are other boosts along the way we'll be shooting for. Be sure to get the power berry buried in your farm on the 3rd to get another +10 happiness as well as extra stamina.

You should be well acquainted with the game at this point. But one extra step each morning that it's sunny and not a festival is to run in and out of the mountain until the squirrel shows up when you go to fish. Each time this happens, you'll gain +10 happiness. If you have a lot of sunny days in Spring, you could potentially earn between 200-250 happiness from squirrels alone this season! You'll also gain +2 from every fish you catch and since you'll be catching a lot, that's a nice boost. You could potentially earn 40-45 happiness from fishing alone if you catch two fish per day this season. It might not sound like much but when you're already doing it for extra money, it adds up. You'll also get +2 happiness for each morning you see birds and each time you see a frog while cutting grass or crops which can add up over time too.

As before, we will want to focus fishing and growing crops. We will need lots of money as each new cow will still cost 5000g despite the fact we will be breeding them. Fishing will remain our main source of income in Spring to supplement the income from the crops and we will want to save up 5000g to get our house upgrade for a +50 boost to happiness. We should already have the wood necessary for it but if not head to the mountain at night to chop enough wood to get it.

Like before, we also want to purchase some grass seeds as well so we have enough to buy a cow as well as chickens going forward. Unlike last run, since we will be focusing on breeding cows instead of buying them, the livestock dealer will not check for the grass requirements when breeding them with miracle potions so you can theoretically continue breeding cows past your grass limit. If you can afford a cow after the house upgrade, you will be ahead of the game.

You also do not need to go to the Flower Festival. There are no happiness boosts there, only affection boosts so it remains optional. If you didn't get the content bachelor ending, check around the 28th using the ending code to unlock the achievement. You can also check to see where your happiness score is at to get an idea of how much more we have to farm for. If you consistently checked the mountain each day and purchased the first house upgrade, you may already be in the 200-300 happiness range.

Friends Forever Get Ending #10: Content Bachelor 10

Summer Goals

  1. Buy a cow as early as possible and continue planting grass.
  2. Back up your saves daily again.
  3. Stock up on Summer seeds. Plant Tomatoes on the 1st, Corn on the 2nd.
  4. Feel free to plant additional seeds on off days if you like.
  5. Get the second house upgrade.
  6. Start breeding cows using the exploit.
  7. Don't forget about the golden sickle upgrade after the random event.

You'll already be well acquainted with this but buy Summer crops and plant them on alternate days. You don't have your horse or your sprinkler but you can always farm excess crops on the off days if you want to plant extra. In fact, feel free to plant additional crops on the off days if you wish. Hurricanes become a problem again so keep separate back ups of your saves but in different folders that are labeled as Bachelor Ending so you don't accidentally overwrite your ranch master saves. We also will lose access to the squirrel happiness boost and we won't have any more until Winter rolls around. You'll also want to keep buying grass and planting it so you can support your cows come Winter time, should we not have the ending by Fall, but it's less pressing as baby cows take 35 days to grow up instead of the usual 21. Plus, if you get to 800 happiness before then, we won't need to worry about it as we'll be done.

At this point, it's recommended to go after the second house upgrade. It will give you +100 to your happiness but you'll need 10,000g and 750 wood for it. There isn't a rush to get it like in our ranch master playthrough but it does give a whopping 100 points to our happiness which is huge. However, you can purchase enough miracle potions and medicine for two baby cows at that price which is +140 happiness so feel free to upgrade when you can afford it.

21 days after you buy your cow, it will grow up and this is when it needs to be fed. It will also be ready to have a baby which is how we will get most of our happiness points this run. Go to the livestock dealer and spend 4000g for a miracle potion and 1000g for a medicine then go back to your tool shed and equip both. Use the miracle potion on your cow and they'll look happy if it successfully took. Switch to the medicine and use it on the cow immediately afterwards. For some reason, pregnancy is coded similarly to a sickness so when you use the medicine, it 'cures it' while still leaving the toggle for pregnancy. This ultimately means when you check the cow the next day, it will be pregnant and move the birthing stable to the right of the door where it needs to be fed. But when you talk to them, the game says that they are past due and ready for birth. This allows you to skip the entirety of the 21 day pregnancy and the cow will give birth just two days after giving it the miracle potion. When the calf is born, you'll be asked to name it, get a whopping +70 happiness points and an achievement we avoided during our ranch master playthrough.

Try the Veal! Bring a baby calf into the world 5

If you've got the house upgrades and were diligently farming the squirrel, you'll likely already be halfway through and be above 400 points. Each baby calf brings in +70 points so use your tomato and corn money to buy additional miracle potions and medicine. Using this method, it's still 5000g per cow but there's no grass check and you can safely use the glitch to breed new calves every two days which is the crux of our strategy for getting this ending.

Also don't forget that around the middle of summer, a random event will break the tree in your farm again. Enter it, talk to the harvest sprite and tell him "Yes" when he asks if you use your sickle for +20 happiness and the golden sickle upgrade.

If you want an additional boost in happiness, feel free to purchase chickens to go with your cows. They will grant a flat +10 happiness each, only cost 1000g and don't need to be fed to maintain happiness. Don't breed them this time as breeding them only gives +5. However, the livestock dealer will refuse to sell them to you if you don't have enough grass planted and cows are much more important at this point in time.

Once you're ready, head into Fall, back up your save and do the ending trick to check your happiness. You should hopefully be over 500 at this point between upgrades, cow breeding and chickens. If you've been diligent with house upgrades, breeding cows and checking for the squirrel, it's very possible you're close or at 800 happiness for the ending.

Fall Goals

  1. Breed cows.
  2. Continue fishing for happiness and money.
  3. Don't forget to feed the Harvest Sprite a mushroom for +20 happiness.
  4. Bring a fish to the harvest festival for a power berry.
  5. Win the egg festival for either a +30 or +80 boost.
  6. Wrap up and get the achievement before the end of the season.

Fall goals remain simple. Fish for money, purchase additional miracle potions and medicine for baby calves and check for the Harvest Sprite to get another +20 happiness and tool upgrade. If you manage to breed at least 5 cows, you'll gain a whopping +350 happiness points which is essentially half the score you need on it's own when combined with the original 50 we had when we started. Be sure to check for the fallen harvest sprite in the beginning of the season and give him a mushroom for +20 happiness and the golden hoe. Don't forget about the Fullmoon Berry growing on the summit on Fall 10th through the 12th that sells for 600g a piece! That will go nicely towards additional miracle potions.

On the 12th, either catch a fish or take the Fullmoon Berry and bring it to the Harvest Festival for the power berry. This is another +10 to your happiness. Keep buying miracle potions and medicine to breed cows when you can afford it and head to the Egg Festival on the 20th, backing up your save beforehand. When you win, you'll get either the Turtle Shell for +80 happiness or the power berry for +30 happiness. You'll gain another +10 happiness from eating the power berry the next day.

You can also contemplate selling a chicken for the power berry. But bear in mind that you will ultimately lose 10 happiness doing this. You can repurchase the chicken which will cancel out the happiness loss but unless you need the additional stamina, it's not worth it.

As you near the end of the month on the 28th, save your game, back it up and check your happiness. Chances are, you've likely hit the goal of 800 and you'll see the exclusive ending, which features our character chopping wood and eating a power berry, unlocking the following achievement.

The Simple Things in Life Get Ending #11: Happy Bachelor 10

Congratulations! Now it's time for a victory lap. Head to the final section for our last achievement. If you haven't got it yet, we'll wrap up in Winter. But before Fall ends, head to town and get Maria and Ellen to over 200 affection points. We don't have to be precise so long as it's over 200. You can do their heart events but it's optional as it doesn't add to your happiness. Be sure to feed your cows before this or you'll take a drop in happiness.

Winter Goals - Optional

  1. Continue breeding cows.
  2. Get Eve, Nina and Ann's affection to over 200 points.
  3. Attend the Thanksgiving festival for +50 points each.
  4. Get the golden axe and power berry for +20 and +10 happiness.
  5. Get the golden hammer for +20 happiness.
  6. Keep an eye out for the fortune teller's daughter. Give her an egg for +30 happiness.

If you still haven't gotten the achievement, Winter will have plenty more boosts for you to get and push you over the 800 requirement. For our daily activities, continue to breed cows with the miracle potion and medicine so that we get +70 happiness each time. You'll also have to start feeding most of them as a lot of them will be fully grown at this point. You can buy the milker for 1800g if you want but very likely the cows will only be producing small milk for 150g each. You'll want to get the remaining three girls to over 200 points of affection by answering their questions or drinking with Eve before the 10th as well. Then, when Thanksgiving rolls around on the 10th, talk to all five girls in town. Each girl will give you a cake and you'll get +10 happiness from each one for a total of +50 happiness.

Once the earthquake happens, you can also take your axe to the small pond on the mountain behind the boulder and trade it for the golden axe for +20 more happiness. Be sure to use it on the stump and grab the power berry for +10 more happiness. The carpenter will also ask you to borrow your hammer in this time frame. Let him for +20 happiness and the golden hammer.

Also, be on the lookout for the fortune teller's daughter when you wake up. She comes by the farm when your chickens are laying eggs and asks for one. Give it to her and you'll get +30 happiness. These boosts, combined with the +70 happiness per calf, will be more than enough to push you over the 800 happiness threshold. Be sure to continue feeding your cows until the 28th and use the ending trick. You'll see the exclusive new ending and pop the achievement.

5) Relaxing for the Final Achievement

Now that you've completed the game, it's time to get the final achievement which is essentially for doing nothing. To get it, you have to have no animals, happiness under 100, be unmarried and be under a threshold for the bachelorettes so you don't accidentally trigger a different ending. To that end, we'll start a new game in the second file slot.

Go through the tutorial, talking to each of the villagers and return home. Then, you'll want to immediately go to bed. Sleep until the 28th and use the ending code to check the ending. You'll see your character run off the farm while your dog barks. You'll pop the final achievement too. Congratulations on your mastery or completion!
