While the following achievements are still covered in the next section, they should be on your mind from the start of the game since there are several steps involved and a simple back-up save usually won't suffice:

On Guard (5)
Defeat the Guard Scorpion without triggering its counterattack

Easy enough. During the very first boss, only attack when the tail is down. To play it safe, only attack it for the first 2-3 turns, wait for it to put its tail up and back down, and attack for another 2-3 turns. It will go down quickly! If you mess up, good thing there's a save point right before it.

The Great Escape (5)
Escape from the Sector 1 Reactor with 7:45 or more remaining.

This may take a couple tries before getting it down. The very first thing you should do is SAVE YOUR GAME right before the Guard Scorpion boss. Now, follow these steps:

  • Go to the game's config menu and set the battle speed and battle text speed as fast as they will go.
  • Run around for a minute and get into a random encounter between the save point and end of that screen.
  • After defeating the boss and initiating the countdown, haul ass back to the entrance to the reactor, and don't forget the following:
    • The Fast Forward feature is your enemy here.
    • RUN from every battle by holding L1+R1! This is a MUST! If you triggered an encounter right before the boss, you should only have two encounters on the way out.
      • If too much time is spent in one battle, just soft-reset and try again.
    • The countdown does not pause if you use the menu, so don't.
    • Do not forget to help Jessie on the way out. If you have 9:05-9:10 left on the clock when you do this, then you're making good time.
    • You should have between 8:15-8:20 left upon re-entering the elevator.
    • After leaving the elevator, talk to Jessie, then Biggs. Talking to the wrong person first could easily make you fail to get this achievement.

I have done this multiple times and my best times were 7:53 and 7:55 remaining.

After arriving at Sector 7 via the train, go left one screen, then go north. Talk to the guy near the fence. After the camera shows the tower, the achievement will pop.

The quickest way to do this is to start the battle with all characters ready to use their limit breaks. This boss only has 1,200 HP, so it will go down quickly.
