Introduction

Mother (known as EarthBound Beginnings outside of Japan) is a role-playing game developed by APE. You play as a boy named Ninten searching for parts of a melody, while also befriending new people along the way.

The set has 47 achievements and 405 points.

All maps shamelessly taken from starmen.net (thanks guys you're awesome!).

Walkthrough

Podunk

After naming your characters, take care of all the enemies in your house and defeat the Doll to earn your first melody.

Pick up the basement key from the doghouse and obtain the Great Grandfather's Diary.

When you're free to roam around Podunk, head to the Cemetery and enter the grave that leads underground.

You'll find her by a house near yours. First say "yes", then "no". The Franklin Badge reflects PSI Beam Gamma, which has a chance to instakill the target.

Before going to the Zoo, visit the Department Store and obtain the Canary Chick (if you say no he'll give it for free), then go north-west of Podunk to enter Canary Village.

One of the gravestones here is miscolored, go behind it through a secret passage and give the Canary Chick to Laura to obtain your second melody.

With the Zoo Key in your possession, go north of Podunk and enter the Zoo.

Make it through the area until you reach the building at the end.

The animals are calm now. Find the mystical singing monkey and obtain your third melody.

From the Zoo's exit, head east to the bridge blocked by the cops who will now let you pass.

Magicant

This area is pretty chill! You get free heals, good (but expensive) equipment and other goodies.

Behind the castle, you'll find the Flying Man house. They'll take hits for you.

One of the holes to the east will take you to Magicant's underground, which is also your way out of here. The correct path to take is right, left, left, right.

In the big room, go down the hole to fight the Fish. Your reward is the Onyx Hook, which will let you teleport to Magicant from anywhere.

Forget the Forgotten Man and you can finally leave Magicant.

Merrysville

The hardest achievement of the set! When you're at a high enough level with both party members, go through the train tunnel on the east. The tracks are very long and the enemies are insanely strong, so you'll need to run away every time. 4th Dimentional Slip is a guaranteed escape but at a huge PP cost, bringing PSI stones is advisable. In the building far away from Snowman you'll be joined by Ana. Use the Onyx Hook and get the hell out of there!

Spookane

With the train open up north, buy a ticket to Spookane and enter the hotel to meet with a surprise!

While you're in Spookane, head east past the mountains. A resident will give you the key to the manor located up north.

Rosemary's Manor is a big maze, but the way through is simple: up, up, down, down. In the last room interact with the piano to obtain your fourth melody.

Head all the way west, past Reindeer and reach the second corner in the train tracks. Go a bit up and left to reach Mislay Triangle. The old man will tell you to find his dentures, they're found outside his house.

Yucca Desert

Keep at least $60 on hand as you'll need the money.

Go all the way back to the Merrysville train station. You can get past the broken bridge by going around it. You'll reach Yucca Desert.

Interacting with one suspicious cactus with Telepathy grants your fifth melody.

Reach the war veteran and ride the cheapest plane ride for at least 10 ticket stubs and hand them in to ride the tank.

Follow the train tracks on the outside and reach Youngtown.

Enter the Live House, sing on stage, beat up Teddy and say no when he asks to join your party.

Note: this achievement is currently broken. You'll have to say no twice for it to pop.

Note 2: you can't have Teddy with you at all for a certain achievement later on, so don't let him join.

Cleanup

You may have spotted this dragon earlier in the Magicant caves. Now that you're of a high enough level you can fight it.

PSI Block will make the fight dramatically easier.

After you defeat it, you'll get your sixth melody.

Mt. Itoi

North-east of Ellay, a bridge will lead you to the Mt. Itoi caves.

A Healer who restores your health is on the plataeu, but don't ever enter the door to the left!

Lloyd can fix the motor boat on the lake. Enter the whirlpool in the middle.

Now, time to grind. Stay near the Healer house (still don't go through the door) and fight all the lake enemies.

Save, do this next part and immediately reset!

Now... redo this part but when you're alone as Ninten, warp with your Onyx Hook. You'll have Ninten solo.
