The Story So Far

Where we left off, Crash had defeated Cortex for the second time. Cortex was sent plummeting to Earth, and that is exactly where this game picks back up. Cortex crashes straight into the prison of Uka Uka, the evil twin of Aku Aku. Uka Uka had secretly been behind Cortex’s previous attempts at world domination, and now that he’s free, he has a new plan.

Uka Uka recruits N. Tropy, master of time. With his time‑twister machine, N. Tropy can travel into the past and collect the crystals in their original places. To stop them, Aku Aku brings Crash and Coco into the same time‑twister, which becomes the hub for the game as they chase down the crystals across different eras.

How to Play

Controls

Completing Each Level

You start the game in the warp room. It has five warp chambers, but only one is open at the beginning. Inside each chamber are five buttons. When you step on a button, the level appears along with icons showing which collectibles you still need. Jump into the portal to enter the level.

Complete all five levels in a chamber to unlock the boss fight. Beat the boss to open the next warp chamber. Defeat the final boss to finish the game.

The Collectibles

There are multiple collectibles that you will be aiming to unlock in each level:

  • Crystals: There are one of these in each regular level. You need to complete the level with its crystal to beat it. This is the main collectible.
  • Gems: Each level has a clear gem for breaking all of the boxes. Some levels may include an additional hidden clear gem, and there are also five coloured gems across the entire game. Coloured gems unlock paths in other levels.
  • Relics: Once you complete a level, you can come back and try to complete the time trial. The best times reward relics; sapphire and gold relics are immediately available, but there are also hidden platinum relics that require the best times.

Boxes

For those unfamiliar with these games, the boxes are what makes this game fun. Each level contains a number of boxes, and breaking them all gets you a gem. This game adds two more box types.

BOX IMAGE MECHANIC
Regular Boxes IMAGE Usually contain a single Wumpa fruit. Collect 100 Wumpa fruit to earn a life.
Bounce Boxes IMAGE Bounced on these up to five times for ten Wumpa fruit.
Slot Boxes IMAGE Changes between a selection of other boxes. Break them before they turn indestructible.
Arrow Boxes IMAGE Bounce on these to reach higher.
? Boxes IMAGE Can contain Wumpa fruit or lives.
! Boxes IMAGE Trigger something in the level; often revealing other boxes.
Outline Boxes IMAGE These become boxes when you trigger the accompanying ! box.
Witch Doctor Boxes IMAGE Contains an Aku Aku mask, which protect against most hits. Collect three for temporary invulnerability.
Crash Boxes IMAGE Contains an extra life.
C Boxes IMAGE These act as checkpoints. Mostly useless when you need to complete each level without dying.
TNT Boxes IMAGE When bounced on, these count down to an explosion. Explosions are bad for your health.
Nitro Boxes IMAGE These explode on contact. Avoid them at all costs.
Nitro Detonators IMAGE These detonate the Nitro boxes in the level, which in turn counts towards the total box count.
Steel Boxes IMAGE These can only be broken with a body slam.
Indestructible Boxes IMAGE These can not be broken, and mostly act as platforms and permanent arrow boxes.
Time Trial Boxes IMAGE These only appear in time trials; break them to temporarily pause the timer.

Achievement Roadmap

For most of the part, achievements are split up into four categories:

  • Achievements for collecting the gems; one for each coloured gem, one for breaking all of the boxes in each level without dying or failing a bonus, and one for collecting all clear gems in each area.
  • Achievements for completing many of the levels with the minimum possible boxes being broken.
  • Achievements for completing the time trials; one for each platinum relic, with extra achievements unlocked for collecting all sapphire and gold relics in each area. We will not be aiming to complete the developer times.
  • Achievements for defeating each boss, with some including an additional achievement for beating the boss under special conditions.
  • There are also a few miscellaneous achievements that we will collect, along the way.

Due to the way things unlock, and for simplicity, we will be completing each level in order three times over.

  1. For the first run, we will be collecting the box gems and associated achievements. In a few levels, we will need to come back later, so instead we will aim for the minimum box achievements.
  2. For the second run, and with the running shoes from Cortex, we will be collecting the platinum relics
  3. For the last run, we are going to collect all remaining gems and achievements, including completing the bonus levels.
